  • Hello Friends! In this video, I break down what Botox is and how it's used for TMJ Disorders (TMJD). Botox is used for TMJD to help relieve headaches, jaw pain, tension and/or pain at the temples, and pain at the base of the skull. I am not strongly pro-Botox; nor am I strongly anti-Botox. I've tried to present the Pros and Cons in an objective manner. Please watch and let me know if you have any questions!

    I am trying Botox after having muscle tension dysphagia for several months (after a bad throat infection-and cervical spine issues from whiplash four years ago that was triggered by the infection), causing severe TMJ Pain and enlarging my masseters. I haven’t had solid food for months, and my quality of life is horrible because I struggle to swallow due to muscle tension. I avoid eating in public and avoid most social gatherings. Botox feels like a last resort after having very limited success with myofascial release, physical therapy, chiropractor, speech therapy, and splints. For people like me who have seen their quality of life go down significantly, Botox can provide a new will to live.

    I get what you are saying, but as a migraineur who also has TMJD - I get one shot on either side of my jaw and it is very helpful. I don't have specialists anywhere near me so this is the best I can do.

    Hi I’ve been to see TMJ dental specialist in U.K. they advised only treatment really is manual physio work and changing bad habits. Any tips on how to help with the ear fullness? Any time I massage that area near the joint it makes my ears feel worse

    Hi Dr what about infiltration injections for the pain? Like the ones used for knee joint pain?

    Hi, Do you think jaw deviation can cause breathing problems?

    • @theTMJdoc
      @theTMJdoc  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it’s vice versa. Sleep Disordered Breathing can cause Jaw problems.

    Hi, can steroids be injected directly into the masseters and temporalis? And would they reach the deep fibres?

    • @theTMJdoc
      @theTMJdoc  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't inject steroids in my practice, so I'm not the right person to ask :)

    After i got tmj my face started thinning out started becoming assymetrical....., so does neuromuscular othandontics help me to treat tmj and get back to my orginal syymetrical face?

    • @theTMJdoc
      @theTMJdoc  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No - TMj Orthotics likely will not affect asymmetry.

    Thank you, I personally would prefer botox as a last resort.

    I'm using botox to survive until I can get "real" treatment. I have 2-3 neuromuscular dentists that I'm looking into. Migraines are ruling my life and they are NOT benevolent dictators.
