    Awesome, Neil! Was really looking forward to seeing these, and your collection is great. I have a ton of these, but I love seeing some titles that are only on DVD from Criterion. And I also order mine alphabetically, and when I did my collection tour, went through them in that order, lol! But the disclaimer at the start definitely made me laugh. Thanks Neil!

      Thanks, Branden. Hopefully we have not incurred the wrath of the Criterion filmbro police 👮 😆

    Morning Neil. So many Fantastic movies it's difficult to single out highlights but I'd go for the incredible Human Condition trilogy. I sat and watched all 9 hours over 3 nights and was transfixed.

    Hi Neil, You have a lot of Criterion movies! Around here, to buy them, they are expensive. And I never find thrift store ones. I have about 15 or so of these titles( Not on Criterion ). Just either VHS or DVD. And have seen maybe 14 or so other ones. I really enjoyed seeing these too! There are so many of your titles that look very interesting. I hope you are having a good evening!

      Hi Lita. Yes, Criterions are generally the more expensive part of the collection. Here I have a mixture of some I have bought in sales, some I have bought used from sellers locally and some I find in thrift stores. Eagle eyed people will have spotted I have previously shown a number of movies on regular edition dvd that subsequently had a Criterion release. I subscribe to the Criterion Channel so find that very useful for watching the titles that I don’t have. All the best

    I'm so relieved to find out I'm not the only collector who organizes Criterions in alphabetical order!! We are REBELS, Neil! I must admit that I don't "get" all the fascination for Jules and Jim. Maybe there's some moral or spiritual defect in me. I only saw it once, and I don't own it. I also must admit that I gave away Dazed and Confused, The Life Aquatic and Brazil for severe lack of interest. I saw Brazil when it first came to theaters and sort of liked it. When I finally picked it up on DVD years later, I couldn't stand it. Go figure. Looking forward to your Blu-rays!

      Hi Mike. Haha, great to hear you organize the same way. Now just watch our subscriber counts fall….I like Jules and Jim just fine but do think that there was a period a while back where we were effectively being sold the story that French new wave cinema redefined cinema. But in fact there was plenty of interest going on in other areas of cinema in other countries. I’m not the biggest fan of Dazed and Confused but I do really like a lot of Richard Linklater’s films. And yes, Brazil is a funny one. I really loved it when it came out and then rented it several times but over the years have enjoyed Terry Gilliam films less. It’s actually about time I gave it a rewatch….Haha, I thought people would be sick of me doing collection videos by now so I might wait a bit before doing blu rays.

    Great stuff Neil. I've never had a copy of Armageddon . I love All that heaven allows , I love Sirk, Actually, and Ozu. They are two of my favorite directors. I'm hoping your well and thanks for the video.

      Hi Marianna. Yes, likewise on Sirk and Ozu. All that Heaven Allows and Written on the Wind are my favorite Sirk movies. And Ozu never ceases to amaze with his precise framing and beautiful storytelling. I love when Setsuko Hara and Chishu Ryu are in his films. Thanks for watching

      Thanks, Mike. I initially was going to show the Criterion blu rays as well but will save that for if I show an entire blu ray collection at a later date

    Hi Neil, I know Criterion only came out here in the Uk in 2016, whereas it’s been available in the States (as it is an American company) since 1998, first on dvd and now blu-Ray and 4K so as you can imagine the film selection is 10 fold compared to us. So it’s brilliant to see what titles you guys have available (and hopefully we will eventually) I can’t believe Armageddon made it’s way onto the label 😮 I see you have a few from the French New Wave period. I have a few of these but nowhere near as many as you…..I sorry the Rock and RoboCop, great films but I wasn’t expecting a criterion release for them. Cool T-Shirt by the way, take care👍😃👍

    • @neilsmoviechannel3199
      @neilsmoviechannel3199  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Alan. Yes, I’m sure more releases will find their way to the UK. The US definitely have the best deal as they can often get the titles cheaply in regular sales. For me it’s pretty pricey these days and I have not been adding new release titles but do subscribe to the Criterion Channel. It would be great if you could access that in the UK as besides showing the Criterion titles they include other classics and gems that aren’t always easy to see otherwise. Ha, yes Armageddon, The Rock and Robocop all found their way on to Criterion dvd but I doubt very much that they will get Criterion blu rays or 4Ks. Same with Criterion laserdisc titles, for example Bond movies.

    Criterion movies are a favorite of mine too. I have one of those art house collections too. Mine has Grand Illusion, Lord Of The Flies, Knife In The Water and 3 others. Is the one set you have like mine and are simple bare bones dvds with just the film and no additional supplements? If so I might not collect more of them and just go for the individual films when I see them used.

      Hi. Yes, the Janus Essential Art House titles as well as Eclipse titles have no special features or booklets (although some have a brief pamphlet).

    A lot of those criterion DVDs are out of print, aren’t they?

    • @neilsmoviechannel3199
      @neilsmoviechannel3199  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Mike. Yes, a fair few out of print ones there, some of which have had blu ray/4K reissues
