    We have our work cut out for us! The sandblaster is coming tomorrow, and we need to get the pads removed from 4 tracks! Can we do it in time? Cleaner challenges Aaron to a cutting torch competition. Overall, progress continues on the 1939 Cat D4 / RD4 agricultural crawler with a D4400 diesel engine. 4G9986 "Lil Lefty" has never been so much fun and fulfilling. I hope you enjoy the shop talk, banter and commentary.

      That is funny 🤣 it’s good to see a father and son enjoy time together like the two off you do. So often Iv gone to txt you about the loss off your son but never find the right words. 😔We have a son who is nearly 9 and has quite severe autism, he doesn’t speak he’s still in nappy’s and will most probably always be dependent on us to look after him. Our situation is different to yours in that we haven’t lost our son but it’s still very hard coping with looking at a young person whose life is limited before it even starts. There is many days that are hard and for me watching you and your dad carry on and have a laugh and a joke is so great to see. It’s also great to see you guys get your channel up and running after losing your son and I’m sure he would be so pleased to see how well you both have done and how well you come across to us as the viewers. I am sorry for your loss and you guys are an inspiration to the rest off us who have tough days also dealing with our own problems. Thank you for your great videos 😊

      I recall one of the times my son came out of a coma at the Children's Hospital. His body was so weak he couldn't eat. He could hardly hold himself up in a chair or chew. I was feeding him puree with a spoon one small bite at a time. He barely had enough energy to talk. All at once he just collapsed back in his chair and sighed. He whimpered, "Dad I'm sorry you have to do this." I told him, "Don't be sorry, I'll do this for the rest of my life if I have to." To be honest, the doctors had prepared us for that distinct possibility on several occasions. I never thought anything of it and forgot I even said it. It was years later that he told me about that day, and how much what I said meant to him. It was the truth. I can't imagine how hard things are for your family. In a very small way I can at least understand. It is obvious that you love your son. I really appreciate what you said. It means a lot to us that folks find the channel wholesome, entertaining and fun. Thank you James and God bless you and your family. You are all certainly in my prayers. We are glad you're all here with us! ❤️

      Thank you Aaron for sharing that and your kind words. Before we had Ryan our son I was oblivious as to what people had to deal with and since he came along it’s given me so much more appreciation for others and what problems they have to overcome. (I hope it’s made me a better person). With all the trips to the hospital we have had the once piece off comfort I have been able to come away with is if you look around you in places like that you will see many many examples off folk dealing with worse than you are. So although I wish things could be different for Ryan I also know it could be worse and I’m just thankful it’s not. Or certainly that’s my way off coping and trying to make the best off life 😊 I work for myself as a builder so between work and kids I don’t get much spare time but when I do I like to catch up on LAOL and squatch 253 (it’s through tobys channel I found yours when he gave you that box off parts) and C and C equipment, I can’t get the time to fit much more in but I like the people and the content and it’s nice to just relax watching folk you enjoy. Keep up the good work guys as it’s a pleasure to watch 😎😊

    I just bought two nuts and bolts for the track pads on my D4D from the Cat dealer. Total for 2 bolts and 2 nuts was only $3. I was figuring they’d be like 5 bucks a piece.
    The new nuts are hex head, while the original nuts were square and they hold themselves in the track chain so you don’t need a wrench. But Cat doesn’t have that style anymore. The part number in my old parts manual crosses to the hex style now.

    • @lifeafterourloss
      @lifeafterourloss  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think I was into the hardware for the tracks around 15 or 1700. The nuts were cheapest at caterpillar but I found an aftermarket source for the bolts called thacks and teeth. And then I got great 8 black oxide lock washers from an aftermarket us source. The nuts on here were a hex style also with an upgraded part number.

  • @SuperMAZ007
    @SuperMAZ007 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    I would say torching off some of the hardware was rather the only way out. The worst crawler or bulldozer under carriages I have seen come from tractors that have worked in salt mines, near salt water, in wet concrete or damping silo into a mass in a pit. Usually that means the life expectancy of the wear items is shortened by a lot. And everything is like the Titanic in every sense. Doing a pin and pushing turning would be feasible if there where no other chains you can use from any of the parts machines. Right now "Hanna Montana" saves you from having to do that job.

    • @lifeafterourloss
      @lifeafterourloss  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Without the seven J Hannah Montana this project would never have been finished. At least in this time frame. As usual I tried to be cheap and save the hardware which ended up just costing us time and headaches. In the end a cutting torch and some new hardware is really going to move the project along much faster. 😊

    Do they use hardened fasteners for those track pads?
    Tons of work on tracks! Another YT'er Squatch253 rebuilt a dozer like yours...he built a jig to push the pins out of the chains...tons and tons of work!
    Great job!
    Keep em coming!!!!

    • @lifeafterourloss
      @lifeafterourloss  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      We are fans of Squatch too. We did consider a pin pusher build but there's really no sense in it because we couldn't get new pins. Finding a set of decent chains was well worth it. As for the hardware every bolt nut and washer on a Caterpillar is at least hard grade 8. I believe they still do that to this day. I know on our equipment, dozers, excavators graders, Etc, the hardware to attach cutting edges is formulated from an extra abrasive resistant steel. We could always get more where life out of genuine caterpillar hardware and ground engagement tools than aftermarket. We did our own comparisons and tests. Caterpillar always pull through and outshined the competition for us. 👍

      @@lifeafterourloss Do they make AR500 fasteners?

    • @lifeafterourloss
      @lifeafterourloss  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm not exactly sure. My guess is that the Fasteners are at least as hard as the ground engagement tools. Maybe even the track pads. They definitely wore out about the same. 🤔
