It's halfway through 2023 and I keep coming back to this video, every once in a while I change my setup and this video is the perfect tutorial to get eveyrthing back and running. I use the mix minus setup for a condenser mic on my gaming PC (suggestions are welcome).
OMG, why didn't I had watched this video 2 years ago when I struggled to setup a small studio for livestream and podcasts ??? Why ??? All this information together is just amazing.
I purchased mine 2-1/2 years ago, about the time you made this video. I don’t know why I missed this video, but you explained the VERY annoying problems that I was having. I’d say your’s is the best explanation, but it’s actually the ONLY useful one I’ve found, to solve the USB out volume out (along with another of your videos specifically about USB volume) The red button labeled “to mon” & “to st” I assumed that the “st” meant stereo, so naturally I thought “mon” meant MONO! One request, I would love to see a complete “for dummy’s” explanation about why decibels are labeled from negative numbers to positive, and other terminology that could be confusing. To me the word decibel refers to actual sound waves, obviously it has more meaning than just whether sound is loud enough to damage your ears. You taught me how to use the db settings, but I would really like to understand why. You used some other terminology that I didn’t understand, would love more info about those also. . THANK YOU!! for this and your other videos.
This was SO helpful, thanks so much guys. I just bought a yamaha MG10XU and honestly I was lost starting out with mixers. Now I feel really confident with levels, among other things from your other videos. Big ups!
Man..... Keep saying, this channel is a gem. Best find ever! Dude is a hero and a legend. I am 55 years old, he makes me want to become an sound engineer after all... (I am in IT now).
OKAY I finally got it working It sounds amazing on the Blue Yeti USB. I can only imagine how much better it would sound with an XLR Mic instead of the USB Mic. Your vids are EXTREMELY helpful and I believe my streaming audio just went up a few levels. Thank you sir!
If I could give 20,000 thumbs up on this video, I would! This was so helpful. We currently stream our church services via camera and microphones connected to OBS but want to add AM transmission to our parking lot to add drive-in attendance thus requiring adding a sound board to our setup to manage the microphones and transmitter. Your demonstrating how to set the knobs and buttons, and including OBS in the demo gives us confidence we can pull this off. The only thing that could use a bit more discussion is at the end about avoiding the loop between OBS and the board when you use OBS as a sound source. Great stuff!
@@kettnercreative A further note of thanks. With the help of this video, we were able to successfully begin our drive-in services on October 11. We were able to accomplish everything we set out to do (stream the service via OBS and simulcast to the AM transmitter via Monitor Out). Tips for other OBS users: Once the Yamaha buttons are set as described toward the end of the video, we set the Yamaha as the the Monitoring Device in OBS Settings, and then the sound sources originating from the OBS laptop needed to be set to "Monitor and Output" in OBS's Advanced Audio Properties. The Monitor Out jacks provided the transmitter with the combined stereo mix from the Yamaha plus the sound sources originating from the laptop (USB Microphones, USB cameras, and audio/video media files).
I've been using this for months and I have done research and consider myself tech savvy, but with this particular mixer, you are a fucking HERO. Thank you.
Been searching everywhere just for that last bit of info you gave at the end.. I was getting intermittent feedback every time I tried to record MG10XU > PC > Reaper. I will now test having that USB button up! Thanks so much for this knowledge-and-experience-backed quality content.
Thank you much for this video! I did my first town hall type setup with multiple speaking candidates along with the zoom call. I didn't have much time to do testing so went live in short order but I had so much problem with zoom watchers hearing the audio. After watching this video I realized what I could have done much better again thank you great videos so helpful
THAAAAAAANNKKKKK YOOOOOOUUUUU! Okay, I don't generally type like that, but this is the first time a YT channel heard something I asked and I'm literally on the verge of buying this mixer with a blue ember for my stream, means a lot. Keep up the good work. ⭐
Thank you so much for this tutorial on how to use this audio mixer. Right now, i just use this mixer for a hobby but i'm glad to have you walk us through on how to get started with this mixer. I appreciate it!
Hi Jordan: I have at home the same Yamaha mixer. You were right this mixer, it is not noisy!!!!! I changed the ouput setup in the Bias FX (guitar pedal emulation): from Windows to DTS and the noise is over, is over Thanks for all your videos about the MG10 XU!
Thank you so much for this video. I have seen all your other videos on this mixer I don’t know how I missed this video lol. This is all the information I needed when I started
Not only did this video convince me to sub, give it a like, all that good stuff. It earned the highest honor I am able to give, a bookmark so I can come back to it when my MG10XU arrives and I get to set it up
Beautiful, thank you! This has helped me a ton not only with the streaming setup but also demonstrating what size mixer would be large enough and have some room to grow.
I am so glad you explained everything. i bought this mixer without actually thinking about it and google only confused me if i could actually connect my pc audio via usb. turns out i can. Goodbye VoiceMeeter hello new mixer.
I purchased this mixer because of you. Thank you. I’ll be performing live w this mixer, the Apple camera adapter and my iPhone X. Using the usb to the back of the mixer. Great videos !!
Thank you, I was looking for information because I had the issue with the computer output feeding back and causing a loop. Read a lot and everywhere you get folks saying if you need to use the USB for out AND in it's not doable with this mixer. Thanks to you I can now actually use this for everything I need. The last bit was Microsoft Teams calls, and because of your last section I can finally get the audio from the USB to my Headphones but not feed it back to the call. Lifesaver. So again big big thank you for creating a proper setup video for the mixer.
You did a great job of explaining what a mixer does and how to use it. After watching this tutorial and doing some further research I decided to buy a MG12XU due to the fact that I want the subgroup to create a separate mix for my headphones. One thing still bugs me though. On my setup I use the USB-IN channel to play back sound from my PC and listen to it on my headphones attached to the mixer. Since I found out via PFL that the level coming into the mixer via USB-IN is way too high, I consulted the manual and found the attenuation setting (i.e. clicking the PROGRAM button 5 times, setting the attenuation and clicking the PROGRAM button again). For me, values around -17db work well. Powering off the mixer and powering it on again however makes the mixer partially forget this setting though. The attenuation is not working (i.e. just as if it were set to 0db) but the value is still set to -17db. If I click PROGRAM 5 times again it shows -17db without actually applying this to the USB-IN. If I change it to -18db and then back to -17db it works as expected. This is quite annoying as I have to do it at least once per day and I was wondering if you have experienced something like that as well and maybe know how to make that setting permanent.
This video literally came out right when I needed it the most, after watching tons of videos, reading tens of things to try getting it work You make a full explanation, covering everything in the way I need, specially stuff like the whole looping, gain with phantom, on or off with what microphone, like dudeeee; Now I have only one question - Where do I donate?
Hello Jordan, thank you for your channel, especially for the tutorial on the MG10. I am a volunteer at our church, and I just found your channel. We have no one who knows streaming, A/V, etc., and I have volunteered to try to sort this out. We stream directly to YT, without OBS - OBS seemed to introduce complexity and overhead on our very low end All-in-1 computer, so the previous volunteer removed OBS. If you happen to do a "house-of-worship video for streaming directly to YT I would be very interested. Thank you again for your excellent videos.
Wow. What a nice instructional video. Its concise, clear and very organized. Seriously, you should have more likes and subs bro. This is way better than the tutorials of other "professional" streamers. You can tell that you really have a grasp of the concept. Thanks bro!
I’ve watched a lot of your Yamaha MG10XU videos and recently bought one plus a rode podmic. I followed instructions on how to set the gain (without having to buy a cloud lifter) and I’m still getting low level out puts. I have two quarter outs going into 9/10 and the other end quarter inch going into the Headphone Jack of my Komplete Audio Interface. The mic can be seen in the meters but not without speaking extremely loud. I’ve got the gain/level pinned to the maximum and the compression around 12 o clock. Slight Eq adjustments but nothing major. On the other hand when I plug in my condenser rode nt1 I don’t have these volume issues but as you’d expect- there’s a lot of background noise entering the equation. Love the Yamaha Love the Podmic But what else can I do to get a better volume out of it ? Thank you so much for your videos. Please also tell us about using instruments with this mixer like plugging an electric guitar directly into it and which channels to use or using a DI and using a DAW with it. Thanks again.
Hmmm, that could be an interesting video. I'll add it to my list, but no guarantees that it'll get done in the next couple weeks. I need to do a bit of research first - but it'll be a good excuse to play guitar again.
Thank you for this video, I look for a table for my own streams, I might choose this one. I have two questions regarding the table. 1) Do the effects go through the USB ? 2) Can we record each line separately in OBS and DAWs ? I look for that kind of table with integrated effects so I can play some concerts on Twitch, record it and maybe tweak the sound afterward to clean it when needed, so I really would like something that allows multichannel recording.
Thank you soo much for this! I've had this mixer for years and I could not figure out how to get the output over USB to be at a decent level. Big help!
Content is sooooo needed. Thank you for clarifying so much. One question: Is it possible to use the same computer to input (let's say music) as well as mix minus output (for say face time or conference calls) using the usb or fx output options at the same time? I assume this requires extra software. Probably too big of an ask for such a small mixer, but this thing is incredible and I wouldn't put it past it if it could. Keep up the good work!
If you're going to do something like that, the GoXLR does a much better job of doing a matrix style output where you can control exactly what inputs come in and out of the 4 outputs.
I think you have solved my problem! I am trying to stream me singing and playing guitar live on Twitch. When I listen through the headphones it sounded really weird! I can't wait to go see what position the buttons are in.
Thanks very much. I’m really enjoying these- perfect mix of ‘consolidating what I know’ and ‘I’m gonna need to watch that a few times. I’m a videographer who is branching into sound reinforcement and live-streaming, mostly for dialogue and presentations, and I’ve been helping a non for profit with their live-streams. [Their show is half dialogue, half live music with Indian percussion in a small untreated room. I’ve got 2 condensers running into a mg10xu (which they control- they control their own show), and I’ve run the line in to a Panasonic gh4 and it’s associated audio attachment, and the hdmi our feeds the computer.] I have questions related to the simplest way to livestream their live events. They move around to yoga studios, and often can’t get an Ethernet cable into their computer, so live-streaming via their phone into zoom seems the best, bearing in mind they need an easy and quick setup. They do not move from their positions at the front of the room, so I’m thinking of positioning a little MG06 mixer between them, running a lapel mic and sm58 from the mixer, and running a mono cable out to their small pa, which is in front of them. My question is, can I run the speaker from one of the xlr outs, while also using the 1/4 inch stereo outs (with a dual 1/4 to single 1/8 cable) to make a short run to the phone. I tried the headphone jack to the phone yesterday without much luck- could be me- and I’m heading to the music store to get the 1/4 to 1/8 cable now. I haven’t done live sound before, but I’m hoping these mixers can send signals out via all 4 balanced outs simultaneously. Whether panning becomes an issue with a single speaker I don’t know. Hopefully I can get a line in to the phone with the trs-trrs adapter for a successful livestream, as well as providing sound reinforcement to the room. Not sure if I’m dreaming, but I’m having a crack at it, and any advice you have on the topic would be much appreciated. Once again, thanks for these video, and have a good day. Cheers from Sydney, Andrew
Hi Andrew, Yes, you can use both balanced 1/4” outputs while also using both XLR outputs. The trick will be wether or not you can set the output appropriately for each device. You may need a 20DB pad to reduce the output to mic level for your phone. There will likely be some compromise that you’ll have to make in terms of making the phone happy with the output and having it loud enough in the room since you’re sharing an output. It’s also worth noting that the 1/4” outputs are 4db louder than the XLR
Thank so much. I might have one of those camera adapters around. I was expecting there to be some level issues. I was hoping that I could set the levels for the camera and then compensate for the room volume with the volume knob on the PA. Luckily, they don’t need too much volume from the PA, just a little reinforcement. I asked the guy at the music shop about whether the 1/4 main outs would be too hot, but he just pointed to the headphone jack next to them and said it was the same, though I was skeptical. Would the headphone out of the mixer give better levels for the phone, as well as the ability to adjust with the headphone volume knob, do you think?
Fantastic, that has explained so much. I'm not a gamer but am streaming in a 14th century church. I just need to know how to add the amplifier now as it has 2 RCA per input channel but only 1 XLR...they don't make this stuff easy.
Excellent presentation. Learn some great value, especially how to set up a mix minus. Here is my real question. How do I use the Yamaha MG10XU to go live on internet radio?
This was the absolute perfect video for me thank you. I got one to record 2 x SM57s from a guitar into a PC. I also want to use it for my twitch channel with a condenser mic so everything was useful!
i have 1 single complaint. You should Rename the Video to " 2pc/Dual Streaming setup Audio with Mixer and Microphone" FOR EVERYBODY BEING ABLE TO FIND IT!. Because this is the only video of 3days watching for 10hours per day which gaved me finally Clarification on how to use a Mixer. Great Job. But i would have one question... Is it possible to split gaming pc audio into 2 channels like 1st=game and 2nd=Discord(voice communication program) AND for streaming pc to have all this on separate tracks for OBS so that when you record you have the actual Stream recorded in separated Tracks for EDITING REASONS???
@@kettnercreative i would need an individual chat regarding my questions about mixer and obs. willing to pay you 20bucks for that conversation! because im at the end of my nerves in search for answers over last 4days
It was a very informative and straight forward video, truly a big help, we bought the Yamaha MG10XU and we are using it on our streaming, the only challenge for us is to output the sound of the Organ to webex, was it because there is conflict with voicemeeter application that we also use?
I have watched alsmost all of your videos regarding the yamaha mixers. I have bought the Yamaha MG12XU. I bought couple of D+ class B MYTS cables in order to connect external devices for music. When i plug the one side to my mobile and the other two mono plugs to line 5/6 Left and Right i do hear some ennoying noise. I tried at first to plug the Left and Right to 5/6 line on the mixer so i can control the gain. I have it right now at 9 o'clock and still i can hear very low noise. If i push the gain to 12 o clock then you can hear that more. If you push the gain at the end then you can see the meter LEDs L1 - L2 goes up to -30 to -25. Then i tried to use line 9/10 on the mixer. Thing goes worse than before. Last but not least, i've tried to fully raise the volume on my mobile and decrease the gain on line 5/6 (back to 5/6 channel with gain control), to a bit less than 9 o'clock. Now it is more clear the sound but you can still hear that ennoying noise when the room is quite. How this can be solved? Really thanks for your time to read my question.
You're a legend man, seriously, i don't know where u came from but your videos are so CLEAN!!!! Instead of buying that dual 1/4 jack, can I just use the USB wire that comes standard with it? Or is the 1/4 jack better to control sound? Thanks
Man this channel is awesome, Im not even an audio person --- Just wanted to check how to connect a Blue Jeti to a mixer and got lost in all your videos lmao. Love how simple the explanations are. Any thoughts on the PV 6 BT? I always see you using Yamaha but would be interested on seeing other mixers.
This is very informative. Thank you for sharing. I just started a podcast and trying to see what kind of gear that I can use to slowly improve the setup.
This is a related but completely different atmosphere question - have you ever seen Whitney Houston singing live in a concert or TV broadcast (still live)? Her mic position NEVER CHANGED. It was always as close as she would have it whether she was singing super soft or whether she was belting at the top of her lungs. Did compression on the mixer board help? How did the audio engineer not have any of that spike? I'm sure they had her levels set prior to a certain level to where the audio would be leveled out no matter what dynamic she sang at. Even with my mg10XU and using a Shure MV7X, I have to back away from the mic when I'm doing more powerful vocals because it'll start to spike out. I do use the compressor but there's a limit.
I'm looking into the MG12XU. I hope it's better than the Mackie ProFX10V3 because the Mackie V3's you can't have your out to main, headphones and mic and USB computer sounds all at the same time without changing your computer settings, and then you will still get the computer sound and the mic all in the mic channel in OBS unless you change your computer settings again. It's maddening
We'd love to see a photo of your setup!

Hello Jordan! Nice communication skills, so professional. Already a subscriber, congrats! Happy holidays!
Thank you Destructive Punch Studio!
I just bought this mixer also. Thanks so much for the valuable knowledge!
Thanks Jordan. I learned so much from this one video. Excellent Job.
Glad to hear it! Thanks for the comment.
Im definately bookmarking your video here, thanks for your help
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you for these videos. These are really helpful. You definitely deserve more subs. I'm sure you'll get them. Thanks again!
man this video was soooo helpful- thank you
Thank you for this video, I look for a table for my own streams, I might choose this one.
Big help!
thank you so much!
Excellent, excellent vid. Thank you so much for clear explanation of using this mixer for streaming.
Happy to help!
You are a legend bro! Thanks so much 🙏
No problem 👍
Thank you so much! You cleared a lot up for me. Nice vids keep them coming!!!
Thanks, will do!
For mix minus setup (14:15) we are sending the phone to the mixer everything but back to itself? I got confused.
Really good info! Gotta practice it first!!
I think you have solved my problem! I am trying to stream me singing and playing guitar live on Twitch. When I listen through the headphones it sounded really weird! I can't wait to go see what position the buttons are in.
Awesome, glad this helped!
Bro ! Thais video was so awsome !!! Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge !! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I’ve got 2 condensers running into a mg10xu (which they control- they control their own show), and I’ve run the line in to a Panasonic gh4 and it’s associated audio attachment, and the hdmi our feeds the computer.]
I have questions related to the simplest way to livestream their live events.
Also, just noticed the mg06 can’t pan, so that makes it easier 😊
Hi Andrew,
Yes, you can use both balanced 1/4” outputs while also using both XLR outputs.
Another option would be to run the USB into your phone using an Apple Camera Adapter
Would the headphone out of the mixer give better levels for the phone, as well as the ability to adjust with the headphone volume knob, do you think?
thank you thank you. the mix minus is what i’m going to stream on IG. im waiting on my cables to arrive. Ill let you how it turns out.
Awesome, sounds good.
This was a great video tutorial Thank you so much
I know this is 3+ years old but thank you for the video.
Fantastic, that has explained so much. I'm not a gamer but am streaming in a 14th century church. I just need to know how to add the amplifier now as it has 2 RCA per input channel but only 1 XLR...they don't make this stuff easy.
Thanks! How can I connect the mixer to a camera, in order to record the audio on it?
If you have a decent camera, it will have a 1/4" mic or line out which you can plug into its own channel
Dude, such a good video! Thanks!
Thank you so much man! This seriously helped me so much! You're a legend!
Glad it helped!
Excellent presentation. Learn some great value, especially how to set up a mix minus. Here is my real question. How do I use the Yamaha MG10XU to go live on internet radio?
Very nice well explained keep doing that i love it
Thank you. Well explained. This was exactly I was looking for and struggling with 👍.
I'll be picking mine up today or tomorrow. I'm working with the Boss RC300, about to do some jamn things!
This was the absolute perfect video for me thank you. I got one to record 2 x SM57s from a guitar into a PC. I also want to use it for my twitch channel with a condenser mic so everything was useful!
Glad it helped!
Thanks! Very informative! Game changer explanation
Glad it was helpful!
Really very helpful! Been trying to figure out how to work these gadgets (similar to yours) out.
Glad it was helpful!
Would you be able to do a tutorial on how to separate audio sources while doing a 2 pc setup? Separating game, from music, from mic, etc?
i have 1 single complaint.
Is it possible to split gaming pc audio into 2 channels like 1st=game and 2nd=Discord(voice communication program)
AND for streaming pc to have all this on separate tracks for OBS so that when you record you have the actual Stream recorded in separated Tracks for EDITING REASONS???
Thank you for the suggestion. That's a great idea. I'll make another more generic video with this title.
Yes
Thank you! Nice, clean and well made tutorial.
Glad it helped!
Thanks
Thank you. You can use the USB.
Thank you for this advise🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Thanks for the tutorial Jordan!
You bet!
I subscribed! u earned it!! thanks, great videos. Regards, GatoLoco.
Hi in your opinion for this mixer in particular which is the best sound effects for a singer from 1 to 24 what will you use? Thanks.
