I feel like this video is slightly pretentious. Paired with the provocative title, the suggestion that we should avoid designer scents because they are popular and, therefore, not unique is very narrow-minded. There is a lot of uniqueness in designer scents, and I believe exploring them is a crucial beginner stage to help your nose develop and understand the notes you like and dislike. They are also far more affordable and accessible than niche scents, so the natural progression to niche, as you explore designer scents, will help you make more informed decisions about the next fragrances you buy. Designer and niche fragrances are two different worlds, so comparing them doesn't work. That "durrr panda dunks bad!!" mentality in an effort to appear above people who enjoy mass-appealing items is very stinky. If you like it and it happens to be boring or popular, who cares as long as you like it? Unique =/= better. Walk before you run!
I will die on the hill that some of the most 'basic' designer fragrances like Bleu de Chanel and Terre d'Hèrmes are some stunningly beautiful beasts and will almost surely turn people's heads despite how commonplace they are now. There is a point to smelling unique, since our noses are very good at cancelling out familiar smells, but that doesn't mean smelling unique is always good. Also, some bottom shelf designer fragrances might get overlooked by casual shoppers. I personally wear Un Jardin sur Le Nil almost every summer day, despite owning some weird niche independent bottles. It is just that much better. It is an incredibly innovative blend of green and citrus notes with a heavy incense base that literally just takes you to the suspended gardens of babylon. Jean Claude Ellena is a master perfumer and artist for a reason. It often comes down to who is the nose behind a fragrance rather than which brand is slapped on the bottle. Mark Buxton (who is behind a lot of CDG fragrances) has done a ton of designer work. Francis Kurkdjian boosted his career with Jean Paul Gaultier's Le Male. Back then it was an absolutely insane twist to blend a barbershop style fragrance with sweet gourmand notes. To this day Francis keeps delivering wild out there fragrances like Gentle Fluidity Silver. So I agree with his point on being innovative and creative to a degree, but I don't think that has anything to do with designer x niche fragrances necessarily.
I personally think you massively over emphasised the impact fragrances makes on other people. Fragrance should be meant as an accessory, just another mundane but playful way to express your style and just like you don’t see lots of people wearing avant garde garments in the streets you won’t see your everyday Joe wearing Zoologist scents. And that’s okay. Plus must of the niche brands not only are actually really overpriced, they’re very recent, meaning you’re investing money in a company that might not even exist a few years from now. Fragrances are having a small renaissance as of recently, it’s a trend, and just like every trend, it’s only a matter of time before people will get tired of it. In conclusion folks; sample a lot, but be smart about your purchases.
Anything above 150, 175 for a 3 mil is no go and most at 60 to 80 worth at most and sometimes some budget gems. I agree its an accessory as a personal statement and hope people respect the no frequency allergies
agree to a certain extent i feel like you can say this to everything food movies art etc sometimes people just like whats easy and accessible and thats ok but some people like to explore smells and stuff
in all seriousness, dismissing the most popular fragrances of all time because they are boring and all smell the same is pretty ignorant in my opinion. If you really break down and understand these fragrances you would realise they all smell very different and there are plenty of ways to stand out. There are certainly elements or "DNA" of fragrances that are similar, but that is because they smell good and are mass appealing. Of course there is definitely room for niche fragrances and everyone should be encouraged to try unique scents. But one does not suck as fragrances if they wear the most popular fragrance of all time because it smells good.
@@willrussell3906that’s what happens when you look at fragrance through the same lense as fashion. I dont tend to leave dislikes on vidoes, but this was just some aweful advice. Genuinely bad. Designer fragrances do not all smell the same, and men's fragrances have a lot more variety than he gave them credit for. Why did you ask us “think about WHY do you want to wear a fragrance” in the beginning/end and then proceed to force opinions about “what girls like” down our throats for the entire video? What you say at the end is hypocritical of the stuff you say literal seconds before. Also, there is a reason why top brands still sell certain scents like Bleu de Chanel and Terre De Hermes; they were formulated decades ago and are timeless. Not all “mainstream” fragrances are deserving of your blindly dismissive attitude.
as a fragrance collector who has over 150 fragrances, I understand your point of non conventional brands and they do have some interesting scents.. but you're underestimating designers fragrances.. here is a few that do smell good and unique Valentino Uomo intense, Spicebomb extreme, Givenchy Gentleman Prive, Saint Lurent Tuxedo, Tom Ford Noir Extreme and Tom Ford Ombre leather.. plus there is the house of Lattafa for good quilty cheapies like Khamrah, Maahir Legacy, Ameer al-oud and Ejaazi.. there is also niche fragrances which i love the most like PDM Oajan, Arabian Oud Rasala, Arabian Oud Rosewood and.. the fragrance world is very vast and intresting
Nice video with some intersting points of views but personally I think there is something wrong: - All the popular fragrances are made to be liked from most of the people, indeed "the mass" usually don't prefear niche fragrances. - I think it is useless to compare popular fragrances with niche ones, they are two totally different worlds and also niche ones have a much higher price so dear karsten popular fragrances are not chosen only for the smell (often done to please many) but for the affordable price. I like your videos but you often address a very narrow niche of people leaving no advice or space for those who cannot make the same choices as others. I greet you from Italy :)
Well I feel like this channel is pretty niche and so is the audience interests. So I would understand karstens recommendations. In fact it lead me to start my fragrance journey today. Just ordered some samples. Karsten isn't a fragrance chanel. This video is more of an eye opening to say that there's more interesting fragrances out there. Not just the mall brand stuff. So I recommend you find a fragrance channel.
I suggest you don't take this video word for word because i think you'll find if you fully explore frag YT this man isn't the best source. Not to say there arent those unique, groundbreaking bangers but actually the balance in between safe and unique is the golden ratio as to me and many, those that you will probably recognise the designer or perfumer but not the fragrance if you are in the mainstream eg. Stronger With You Absolutely Armani, La Nuit De L'homme Bleu Electrique YSL, Gentleman Reservee Prive Givenchy, Spicebomb Extreme Viktor and Rolf Etc. These are often scents that have a wide appealing note but also a tweak that helps the standout factor and performance. Niche houses like PDM, Mancera and Amouage are amazing also but are really going to run you for your money 😂
Alot of the brands you mentioned in the description isn't very beginner friendly nor easy to find *cough cough* slumberhouse *cough cough*. I would suggest some brands that are timeless and easier to get into like Frederic Malle, Parfum d'Empire, Miller Harris etc... As your nose developed and familiarized with fragrances, I'd say you would still find ways to appreciate your old favourites and find new exciting aspects in them.
Try to look around older designer fragrances, you can find some that smells great, and they are not overused because they are old, and that’s why they are unique.
Ive been through this phase before, DENIAL. I was pouring a good bit of money into fragrance so you want to believe you are the best smelling in the room and completely unique to everyone else. The thing is i was starting to almost pretend to like scents just cause they were 'unique' or made me 'stand out' but in actuality i knew what appealed most to me Not to say the most popular are the best by any means, but theres a reason theyre the most popular, youll smell good wearing all of them and in fact by wearing a respectable, decent quality fragrance you've already surpassed the majority and quite possibly get noticed for it weather silently or communicated To me a well crafted, fairly complex designer fragrance tends to appeal the most, Aqua Di Gio Profumo, Dior Homme Intense Parfum, JPG Le Male Le Parfum, Spicebomb Extreme, Gentleman Reserve Privee and Prada L'homme type fragrances .
Just wear fragrances you enjoy the scent of and tailor it depending on the situation (don't wear overwhelming fragrances in warm weather or in close quarters). Don't be offensive but don't be timid. That simple.
CDG copper just smells like blood and rust, im not a fan, Concrete is aight almost bought it, CDG Ganja pretty underrated, tbh not all of the fashion brands edps are bad or boring favorite one for me is Moncler, it smells like pine its fresh, its strong but not pungent, sticks to the body for a long long time and fades beautifully into the clothes (underrated imo), got many people saying I smelled good compared to the Prada Luna Rossa Ocean that I use for more casual events which is way more simple. I dont really wear perfume for others but mainly for myself I couldn't care less about others opinions but when you get compliments for the fit, the vibe and the scent, validation is always nice. But validation can also limit you. Moncler for life.
Copper smells horrid K agree. I own concrete and I love it. I also habe the black pepper scent for special occasions or nights out, reall stand out smell
I have tried some of those unique CDG fragrances he mentioned, and lo and behold - they are hot garbage. the concrete one was ok, but the copper one became so nasty on the drydown, it's unreal. moral of the story: don't listen to the snobs and try things for yourself. now, if you'll excuse me, I'll go back to indulging in some azzaro and versace :P
Seems like you're basing a whole lot on one person's opinion. It almost sounds personal lol. Designer fragrances are made with high versatility and mass appeal in mind. Practically everyone will like Dior Sauvage/D&G The One/Bleu de Chanel even if they have smelled them before. Compare that with stuff like Tom Ford Tuscan Leather, Tobacco Vanille or even Dior Homme Intense (or anything iris based). Only a small number of people will compliment you if you have those fragrances on. To some people they're downright disgusting.
Overall a great video with some great points. While the vast majority of designer fragrances do smell like an Elfbar, there’s some gems in there. YSL’s La Nuit de L’Homme is one of them. It’s spicy, sweet, and pretty subtle in potency. Oddly enough that “European cokehead” had a big role in reviving it’s popularity. I’ve heard of quite a few CDG scents but have yet to try any myself. But if I could recommend one fragrance house it would definitely be Xerjoff. Start with Naxos and go from there.
Could you please reccomend more fragrances like YSL LA Nuit de L'Homme? im planning to get it but im trying to find something similar, and deciding between that and Gissada Ambassador.
my daily is "The Door" by D.L. Roelen. its based on the Door of Berghain. its fresh dark and mysterious and also has tones of latex. Thank you for you recommendations, after 3 yers of the same smell i might try out something new
Liked this video .I feel like I recently finished my fragrance journey and can agree with almost everything told in it. Two brands worth mentioning(IMO) are Etat Libre D'Orange- provocative and sometimes funny brand that creates really creative fragrances(my favourites are Rien and Fat electrircan however they all worth knowing) And second brand that I personally dont like that much but it is really interesting and I guess is better as a beginners brand is Histoires de Parfums- brand most of which fragrances are based on historical figures. Smells niche enough to be interesting but unlike Filippo Sorcinelli or Meo Fusciuni is kinda easy to understand ( my favourites are 1899-Hemingway and Irreverent ) btw if u like copper from cdg try la fin du monde from etat libre d'orange. smells kinda the same in the beginning but then it becomes more powdery
For those who starting fragrances go for safe choices and don’t be unique like in fashion, because you might not like and people around might not want to be next to you. Gentscent is the best example for reviewing good fragrances, Jeremy fragrance recommend good fragrances too but he just on coke most of the time when describing fragrances but it’s always good for beginner
I myself am deep in the Niche Game, but for myself not for others. I know for a fact that the most unique and special Fragrances that I have aren't liked by everyone. For people that want to smell good to pretty much everyone Designer Fragrances and likable fragrances are the way to go. For me it's expression and almost an art form, but i know that most people don't see Fragrances in that way.
Nothing wrong with liking either designer or niche. Just buy what you love, and try to discover new and unique scents. Perfumery sometimes shouldn't be THAT deep. I think the mindset that you become more elevated and sophisticated just because of your scents is the real issue with the entire fragrance culture. At the end of the day, it's about finding what you love.
I've never got more copliments than when i wear CDG Wonderwood. I literally had a whole conversation on scents with a random stranger because of it lmao
i personally dont want to smell like copper, concrete or some other fragrances maybe one in a billion people like😂😂😂😂 there is brands like xerjoff, parfums de marly, tom ford, kilian and others who actually make masterpieces and try new things
Not going to lie, I personally have preferred designer fragrances...however....I've also loved even more than niche houses, Indie houses (Seance, Poesie, etc). Indie house fragrances are really where it's at.
hey man i really enjoyed the video but one thing i wish you touched on a bit was the process of applying and making a fragrance stick! but i dont think that was ur purpose too much so i get it, but uve opened my mind to so many different brands as well as the fact that u can order samples online :0 love ur stuff and appreciate you :D
the way maison uses vanilla in a powdery way but still maintains its rich profile along with his candied ouds completely changed my perspective of those notes
Yeah I think where it gets good is mixing fragrances. I find having some more avant garde fragrances wit the generic is how u diversify urself. I love Burberry hero especially the parfum but I also love CDG zero and I feel like there’s a place and time for both
im lucky to be in nyc where ds&durga is based! would highly recommend for people who are trying to explore fragrance and smells as a greater "experience" they have some crazy unique perfumes and also sell candles and body care stuff
I ended up copping the “CDG Mirror” cologne because of this video! It lasts long & is very lowkey , the sent reminds me of getting a clean haircut/shave from a barber also the bottle is super dope
I keep it old school. Brut, Clubman, Paco Rabanne, Polo. Some girls like them. Most girls don't. I don't give a fuck what they like. It's what I grew up with. It's what I like.
Be careful man. If you feel like the youtubers videos are like an attack on you. Then you might want to discover some insight on yourself. I'm not saying your feeling attacked btw. I just want you to be secure with yourself
Can you make a video talking more about the unique fragrances? Also, I feel like you only know about designer fragrances from their most popular ones. A lot of them have private blends with niche quality.
Not directly related to the video, but I get frustrated in the summer, as I want to wear fragrances but can’t find deodorant that is sentless, and I don’t want clashing smells, are there any sentless deodorants you use/ would recommend
The most important part of choosing a fragrance is one that smells good *on you*. Some of these avant-garde fragrances may smell "unique" and "cool" but actually turn into wet dog and pennies when you wear it for more than an hour. I personally don't like aftershavey fragrances like Sauvage, I'm more a Tom Ford type. But the important thing is that citrus, wood, tobacco and vanilla *smell good on me*, so something wild and interesting may mix poorly. I think Replica is a cool concept in line with the brand overall, but i also think Jazz Club smells like a wet ashtray. "Unique" can sometimes just translate to "who tf would wear this?"
This was really interesting to watch as I'm not that into fragrances but CdG wonderwood has been my go to fragrance for the last 5 years or so. Ever since then I just get another CdG one to try out every year or two, my other favourites I would recommend are the red one(forgot the name) and wonderoud.
Not to be that annoying person but I don’t recommend margiela fragrances since they are funded by L’Oréal and the quality of them decreased compared to them having the line independently I do love their scents and the concepts but the price isn’t really justified for it anymore, especially since there are fragrances with better quality for a lesser price point But yet again, people should wear what they love and have fond memories attached to :)
You got bullied into buying a different scent bro, buy what is good to your nose, fragrances are accessories and not meant to be your personality, popular fragrances are popular for a reason, they smell GOOD in general. ive been collecting for many years now and have ultra niche to designer, and theres literally nothing wrong with the more basic ones
Nahh bro really put pdm into the mid tier 😭 and even put le labo on the great tier like bro this hsit smells like flavored water that lasts 3 hours max💀
“If you’re one of the ladies watching this. Hi! Few things to start off with =] 1. Yes I added you because you're a female gamer, 'tis and awesome thing to see! 2. I'm Brian. 3. Don't be intimidated, but I'm not like a stereotypical guy. If anything, I'll be the one in the kitchen =D”

Ive been through this phase before, DENIAL. I was pouring a good bit of money into fragrance so you want to believe you are the best smelling in the room and completely unique to everyone else. The thing is i was starting to almost pretend to like scents just cause they were 'unique' or made me 'stand out' but in actuality i knew what appealed most to me
Not to say the most popular are the best by any means, but theres a reason theyre the most popular, youll smell good wearing all of them and in fact by wearing a respectable, decent quality fragrance you've already surpassed the majority and quite possibly get noticed for it weather silently or communicated
To me a well crafted, fairly complex designer fragrance tends to appeal the most, Aqua Di Gio Profumo, Dior Homme Intense Parfum, JPG Le Male Le Parfum, Spicebomb Extreme, Gentleman Reserve Privee and Prada L'homme type fragrances .
People are hating bro I loved this video
When im outside and ya girl say “you smell soooo good” dont say nothing
I was surprised when the fragance i was most praised, literally smells like an old smoking lady, with that said, it still being one of my favorites 🙏
there’s so many designers frags that go into niche territory with their smell this video is just prentencious
is it really that deep, if you like a scent you like it.
Lmao lost me when you started badmouthing Jeremy ……. That was terrible
Just another pretentious hipster hating on Jeremy
Jeremy is just circling the drain now, so sad.
Nautica Voyage still hits. Def a time/place type deal though. Voyage is good for some casual type shit but only if it’s warmer outside
Start with Naxos and go from there.
la nuit smell like a rich, pedophile grandfather
Could you please reccomend more fragrances like YSL LA Nuit de L'Homme? im planning to get it but im trying to find something similar, and deciding between that and Gissada Ambassador.
my daily is "The Door" by D.L. Roelen. its based on the Door of Berghain. its fresh dark and mysterious and also has tones of latex.
Thank you for you recommendations, after 3 yers of the same smell i might try out something new
this man just gave away all the sauce and yall hating, great video
Liked this video .I feel like I recently finished my fragrance journey and can agree with almost everything told in it. Two brands worth mentioning(IMO) are Etat Libre D'Orange- provocative and sometimes funny brand that creates really creative fragrances(my favourites are Rien and Fat electrircan however they all worth knowing) And second brand that I personally dont like that much but it is really interesting and I guess is better as a beginners brand is Histoires de Parfums- brand most of which fragrances are based on historical figures. Smells niche enough to be interesting but unlike Filippo Sorcinelli or Meo Fusciuni is kinda easy to understand ( my favourites are 1899-Hemingway and Irreverent )
btw if u like copper from cdg try la fin du monde from etat libre d'orange. smells kinda the same in the beginning but then it becomes more powdery
I was looking for a vid like this for a min! Great video
So By The Fireplace is okay as my first fragrance? 👀
I use Comme Des Garçon BLACK. It kinda scared me at first, Heavy Incense sweet licorice. i’m better off with it, CDG does it right
Not going to lie, I personally have preferred designer fragrances...however....I've also loved even more than niche houses, Indie houses (Seance, Poesie, etc).
Byredo and MFK are some good examples of houses that make more unique offerings. As long as you don’t mind the price tag lol
the way maison uses vanilla in a powdery way but still maintains its rich profile along with his candied ouds completely changed my perspective of those notes
Yeah I think where it gets good is mixing fragrances. I find having some more avant garde fragrances wit the generic is how u diversify urself. I love Burberry hero especially the parfum but I also love CDG zero and I feel like there’s a place and time for both
For 200 I’d hope whatever scent would blow my mind, hard to vouch that much just to smell good
Fell in love with CDG Wonderwood. Such a beautiful smell, almost intoxicating.
who made you team leader??
im lucky to be in nyc where ds&durga is based! would highly recommend for people who are trying to explore fragrance and smells as a greater "experience"
they have some crazy unique perfumes and also sell candles and body care stuff
I wear Megamare by Orto Parisi during Summer, it is insane.
All I need and westide gun as background tracks??
this man won’t stop cooking
You forgot to mention that the CDG frags perform like ass, lasting around 2 hours. For me, that doesn't entice me to buy.
It's what I like.
why are all these youtubers telling me i suck, wtf bro :((
You don’t suck dude dw this guy doesn’t really know what he’s talking about and the video is overloaded with bias
at the end of the day just wear what you like (clothing or fragrances)
Be careful man. If you feel like the youtubers videos are like an attack on you. Then you might want to discover some insight on yourself. I'm not saying your feeling attacked btw. I just want you to be secure with yourself
@@ayokevin287 (its a joke)
@@ayokevin287 a lot of fashion youtubers have started using the 'you suck at ...' as a title, i find it hilarious they're using it.
bro think he fashion elitist 💀💀
Can you make a video talking more about the unique fragrances?
Also, I feel like you only know about designer fragrances from their most popular ones. A lot of them have private blends with niche quality.
Not directly related to the video, but I get frustrated in the summer, as I want to wear fragrances but can’t find deodorant that is sentless, and I don’t want clashing smells, are there any sentless deodorants you use/ would recommend
U Smells Good is my favorite frag channel. A little snobby but his taste is superb.
You confused the accords like fruity and aquatic with notes like black pepper, cedar wood or amber.
Legit got margiela by the fireplace a couple months ago and im for sure gonna try more now
This was really interesting to watch as I'm not that into fragrances but CdG wonderwood has been my go to fragrance for the last 5 years or so. Ever since then I just get another CdG one to try out every year or two, my other favourites I would recommend are the red one(forgot the name) and wonderoud.
I wonder what would happen if your wore it to a sushi restaurant where any perfume is frowned upon
I appreciate the reverse gatekeeping
50 sprays Drakkar Noir in the summer.
Not to be that annoying person but I don’t recommend margiela fragrances since they are funded by L’Oréal and the quality of them decreased compared to them having the line independently
I do love their scents and the concepts but the price isn’t really justified for it anymore, especially since there are fragrances with better quality for a lesser price point
But yet again, people should wear what they love and have fond memories attached to :)
A year later just wanted to say wear whatever you want who cares what some random girl thinks. I’ve watched 2 of your vids already and well
I buy the one that I’ve gotten 100% positive feedback on
Just go for Xerjoff, Argos, PdM, Initio and get literally any fragrance and you should be fine
That hoodie is fresh bro where can I get one?
Givenchy
Scent blending the real sauce, more unique smell
I much rather listen to a fragrance collector who has smelt every fragrance known to man than some one who smelt couple cdg fragrances once
CONCRETE BY CDG and STANDARD ( CDG) and ZOOLOGIST for me❤
A lot of people caught a stray with this one and it shows in the comments 😂
Love the Pray for Paris snippet
I agree with you brudda man
cool vid 👍🏾
THIS IS MY TYPA VIDEO
I fw this video
Nahh bro really put pdm into the mid tier 😭 and even put le labo on the great tier like bro this hsit smells like flavored water that lasts 3 hours max💀
“If you’re one of the ladies watching this. Hi! Few things to start off with =] 1. Yes I added you because you're a female gamer, 'tis and awesome thing to see! 2. I'm Brian. 3. Don't be intimidated, but I'm not like a stereotypical guy. If anything, I'll be the one in the kitchen =D”
invictus isnt a brand itself. its being owned by paco rabanne
Great hoodie
Here I thought I was a top G for having 3 Creed frags
Invictus is paco rabanne
Dunno why so much hate, fragraniacs should just avoid that footage, that's pretty much for default interest.
been meaning to try Le Labo, but Henry Rose is nice
anyone know where to get good samples?
Don't do Jeremy Fragrance dirty like that lol
