There is a way to have the Mixer Brush automatically clean itself. Over on the color wheel where it shows you the two color swatches you have selected, there is a small "cancel" symbol. This should change the Opacity slider of the color (not the brush, the COLOR!) to 0%. Make sure the "Auto Load Brush" box is checked". I've experimented with this method in the past and honestly I find the Smudge Brush tool tends to be easier.
I agree that setting brush color to no color (circle with redline through it) and the Auto Load seems to work just as well. Thanks for the tip.

Hi - I've been doing the same frequency separation - but rely only on healing brush vs. clone and paint mixer with similar results? As far as challenge -- is there a good way to convert photo to cartoon?

Thank you so much for these tutorials, I am brand new to affinty (have it less than a week) and am just a hobbyist so absolutely no professional experience/training. Your videos are so clear and easy to follow, I'm having a great time getting to grips with the software. I was wondering if you or your followers could help with something I am sure is very basic (i can hear the professionals rolling their eyes from here lol) but I just can't seem to find a simple method, or a video. I have many jpeg pages with multiple images, and am trying to figure out if there is a simple way to separate the images (doing a selection and then masking each individual item seems a bit clunky and time consuming) If it is easier in Photo than it is in Designer I have both (there was a half price sale so I thought why not ha ha)

I found it lol. Playing around last night figured it out by accidentally selecting the wrong function. For anyone else looking for this, import the jpeg/document. Select the (embedded) document. Then select 'edit document' from the top tool bar. This opens a new version of the document where all layers are separated, Simply select the layers you want (for each individual image) and group them. I had to then copy to a new document and save. (but think i may be missing a step here somewhere whereby i could cut out the copy step - maybe someone else can figure this out)

Thanks Olivio,very exciting, may be a question is there something like a ratio : radius / photo definition ? to choose the better radius. In other words : more the the photo definition is high, more the radius can be or has to be bigger ? Nice too the clean brush method
set your brush radius to the size for the damages you want to remove. of course with really big damages, you want to remove it step by step
My first thougt: catch a snowflake or an ice crystal. But its warming up next days, so that will be difficult. Portrait? Difficult, cause of corona regulations. Animals? Zoo's are closed, so only wild or domestic animals are left. Okay, my suggestion then: a closeup of Lolo's eye. :-)

Challenge: I'd like to see how pictures are taken and processed for eiher high key or low key technique.
I'm looking for an alternative to photoshop. I can't stand the monthly subscription. If I could spent $300 on a one time forever use photoshop version I would. I do beauty photography and do a lot of retouching. How does affinity stack up against photoshop for retouching?
It's a lot cheaper, but not as capable. If you do a lot of raw development, you might want to look into Photolab or Lightroom (though then you still have the LR and PS sub)
