In my way, I draw the stroke layer first, then create a copy of it and fill the bottom layer with solid colors. Then if I need to add shadows, textures etc, I create a new layer on top with the clip mask. It's a super time-saving method ;)
Honestly, this is one of the biggest things (next to layers) to wrap your head around getting into digital art, if you're already familiar with analog mediums. And the video did a great job showing what you need to know effectively.
How do you get your line work so smooth and not shaky? :) Mine always looks a little shaky and not clean. I know that you can adjust your pencil guidance, but it still does look shaky...
Well try to increase the pen stabilization under the pressure and smoothing settings and try to draw confident strokes. That last part requires practice. Dont just use your wrist, but your entire arm to move your pen while moving it fast. Thats what I do to create smooth and clean outlines although Im still working on that.
BROOOOO THE REFERENCE ONE AHHHHH I WISH SOMEONE BEEN TOLD ME THIS😭😭IT WAS TAKING ME YEARS TO COLOR BC I COLORED BY HAND AND ERASED WITH THE FIRST METHOD
The shape you’re trying to fill is probably not closed. Depending on the brush you’re using, it may seem closed but it’s not. Look for thin lines and make them a little thicker.
The best (only) method I've been able to use in those situations is to fill the gap by hand. That way, you still have a 'closed' shape, even if the borders aren't all the same color. Your mileage may vary, and the section that you color may need to be a bit thicker than the rest of the lineart; otherwise, your tolerance on the fill layer will need to be lower and you'll be more likely to see uncolored edges.
I was hoping you had an explanation for when you select areas then do color fill it’s always hard pixelated edges - it looks so different than dragging and dropping but it should be the same!! Literally can’t find this info anywhere 😢
The reference tool only works if the shapes being colored are fully enclosed. Otherwise, it doesn’t work. Just like color dropping. So basically there’s no perfect way to color. Just use a combination of all of these techniques when appropriate.
Hi ! any idea why I can't import photos or images anymore with the usual fonction ? it's loading and then nothing happens, no image. I have to open 2nd window every time, and I can't import as "private image" on my board :( It's been a few month now and no update has corrected this problem, rebooting neither.
I never make comments or like any video. But this video forced me to comment here. I couldn't stop myself from saying this. Your last tips “reference layer” saved my life🥹 I had very hard days for fill colouring. It was very boring and time-killing. Now it’s fun to colour.

That’s the way to go for sure!
How? Do you have a tutorial?

The reference tool is a game changer! Thanks a ton

7:54 how did the shadow color of the skin layer also change to a darker blue instead of staying pink? Love your tutorials thank you!
the shadow is on the other layer that is above the skin layer, and that layer is set to Multiply.
Why does the hole canvas gets the color when i use reference or color drag?

you're back! thanks for this cool video!
Yes, I’m back!!! 👍👍👍
Welcome back 🙏
Do you a solution if your art has some tiny gaps in it, like a character outline that has slight gaps as a style choice

If you are looking for a way to use color drop with colors on different layers than the line art skip to 8:44 right away!
I can’t seem to drag the Color it fills the whole background
Same problem...
There might be a break in the line of your shape you are trying to fill in.
Thank you for the free brushes you shared in one of your videos - I've been getting a lot better results with them!

Much appreciated; thanks for your time and efforts to make this video!
Didn't know about the reference tool, it would definitely change my way of working
i will say that the select tool is a pretty helpful
I always look forward to your videos. Thank you so much!
I’m a noob, how come sometimes reference color fill seems to work and sometimes the entire canvas gets filled with color
I have the same problem and still no solution- all the gaps are closed and it doesn't work so yeah I wish I knew why as well
I've noticed that this happens with certain kinds of brushes that are textured. Including unfortunately the one I do all my lineart with 😂
Thank you this video helped me a lot
How does it not affect the layer of the outline??? Love your vid btw!!!😘
I'm doing the "selection" one.
what if you want to use a textured brush with no drag i butdo not want to effect the rest of th drawomg or parts
reference is the best ✨👏

When i want to colordrop a closed shape, the threshold is 0% and still fills the entire layer inside-outside the closed shape. I need your help!
the way you hold your finger in the top right always makes me feel like you're holding something on screen haha
Thank you very much! A brilliant tutorial, I am so happy to have discovered your channel! Joining your Patreon with enthusiasm

Could you describe the problems you're having, or even better upload a video showing what's happening?

I had very hard days for fill colouring. It was very boring and time-killing. Now it’s fun to colour.
