Not weirdly translatable at all. We're united by a class struggle, and unfortunately, just like a fish can't check out of water, we can't check out of capitalism, so we capitulate to oligarchs in order to feed ourselves.
That's what he was saying in the movie. White people (et Al) are also putting on a facade in order to fit in, or to sell a product. Any one who has ever worked outside the home should be able to relate, it's universal.
Yeah I want to echo the sentiment. As a white dude, I actually found the "white voice" aspect of the work environment very relatable. It obviously has a lot of racial connotations that are exclusive to the experiences of black folks and people of color, but the idea of having to adopt a work place persona that belies my actual identity is applicable to all working people. It often becomes so dominating that people develop extreme anxiety or become fully invested in their new "professional" identity and make no distinction between working, social, and home life, despite how unnatural the work environment is socially. I don't think Boots has an illusions of a working class exclusive of white people, or that experiences of white people couldn't represented by what happens on the screen here. I second you, Neuroticmancer, the film is brilliant. A masterpiece, even, without any of the tedious pretentiousness of most other films receiving that kind of praise.
