Although not available in as many sizes as the BFG, Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx are fantastic. I have them in 315/70-17 on my JKU. They are much better than the Duratracs they replaced and are infinitely better than the BFG’s for my uses. There is no perfect tire because every tire is a compromise and each person’s usage is different. That being said the Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx are perfect for me.
I have these exact tires on my truck. If you have it inflated on the rim, lay it on its side, and put straight edges on opposite sides it measures exactly 33.9. Thats where they get the measurement. Then you take a straight edge across the sidewalls and measure to the ground and you get the 11.5
I agree with you! If i was to get those tires! I would just might go just a little larger or just stay with the same size as recomended by the car manufacturer. Im like you! I dont do mudding like some people do, i just like to go thru trails maybe some ravine, some rock crawling, nothing to extreme. I like to enjoy my jeep without having to do some bad damage.
Great video...I have a jl sport s as well and really like these 285/75/17 tires or nitto ridge grappler grapler in a little softer sidewall class load c. This tire seems more practical than going to a 35×12.50 and I dont like the tires sticking out far past the fenders due to spacers. Which teraflex lift did you use and how did it affect ride quality with these class load e tires? Do your 285/75/17 tires without spacers rub at all when turning and flexing with the 2.5" lift? I put on takeoff rubicon jl suspension/wheels/tires(bfg AT 285/70/17)and got about 1.75" of lift and the tires havent rubbed fenders during light/moderate off roading. The rubi suspension did firm up the ride a bit compared to stock jl s suspension. I wonder if these tires could work with rubi suspension without rubbing or I need to lift further? Thanks again!
Any issue with them "slinging gravel" at the cars behind you?? I've never heard it mentioned-- but some of the other Ats DO sling rocks pretty bad.. ONE poor guy had new wheels and it just shredded the outside of them with gravel it slung.. ha.
So would you consider this a good tire size for a JK on a 2.5”lift? We plan for more city than country driving. The people at the tire shop keep saying it’s a uncommon size. Any thoughts
You need a 315/70/17 KO2 if you want a 35” tire. Those are around a 33” tire I know tires. Been with America’s Tire for over 25yrs now. Been in Jeep sense I was 17yrs old. Just traded my 2013 JK in for a 2018 Rubicon JL.
This tire I'm showing in the video is listed at 33.9" according to BFGoodrich specs. The 315/70-17 is listed at 34.4". So if you step up to the 315/70, you're only getting one half inch of extra height, which is only one quarter inch of extra ground clearance, and they are heavier and cost more money. To me, it's not worth it.
OFFRD you picked the right tire. I got the 34"x10.5 x 17 and was severely disappointed to find out that they are actually only 33.5" tall. I expected them be taller then the 285-75R-17 but they are not. They are actually 1/2 inch shorter.
Howdy, thanks for the informative video. You’re running a 285/75R 17 on the stock 17” wheel? I have an Altitude JLU which has an 18” wheel, what tire would you recommend if keeping the wheel without wheel spacers?
I actually ended up running these on aftermarket wheels, but you certainly can run a 285 on a stock wheel. With 18s, you're probably looking for something in the 285/70-18 size. Maybe a 295/70-18 if they are available.
They roar but it's not obnoxious. They pick up gravel pretty bad too. Otherwise they're smooth on the highway and grip well in rain. Overall I like them.
I assume that we are talking about the Yokohama MT correct? Just wanted to be sure because I have reviewed a lot of tires. The Falken MT is one tire I have no experience with. I've used the Falken A/T3W and those are spectacular. These Yokohama MTs produce noise. I will be doing a video review soon.
Ahhh well I'd say the Falken and BFG are both very similar in road noise. Both are quiet and I can't pick one over the other just based on noise. Both are pretty good about staying quiet with only a small hummm
I just do not like to have the same tire like everybody else. There are always the great Wildpeaks and I always liked the General Grabbers for way less $$$.

Great video thanks for taking the measurements. I'm looking and comparing tires in this size for a ram 1500. Im leaning towards the falken at3

those tires are good but they are e load and will make n=more noise i went with c load.@@fabulousoffroaddesigns5080
@@Dangling_Carrot actually you can't notice the difference in noise in the truck from the stock tires. They are rougher though when running empty.
@@4-LOW Under load KO2 315 is more like 33.5", at least that is what I set in my speedo to make it correct.
I have never seen 285 75 17
KO2's all day everyday in the back country of Death Valley.

How would you compare these to the Falkens now that you had some experience with these? Specifically wondering about road noise ...

@@4-LOW thanks for the reply. With concern to road noise how would you compare them to the Falkens?

What PSI do you run with the 285's highway?
I just do not like to have the same tire like everybody else. There are always the great Wildpeaks and I always liked the General Grabbers for way less $$$.
Grabbers and ko2s are only a few dollars in difference. Check out Tire rack and see for yourself. 3 dollars difference to be exact
Those are E load tires, doesn't it feel harsh?
What's the height of the tire now that it's on your Jeep and at what psi r u running I'm looking at getting these for my truck thanks
285/75-17 KO2 was exactly 33" tall while on the Jeep. I run about 30-32 PSI on the street.
So at 2.5 lifted jeep and 33s is for long hiway drives recomended?
I'll bet the Jeep looks better with the bigger tires!
Whats the best tires for ice ??
Nokian Hakka's, Michelin ice x, Blizzak DM-V2
285/75 are close to 34 inches? Google has it at 32.8
I have 285/70r-17s on my rubicon the specs said 33 inches they are only 31.5.
I thought I could only get the BFG - KO2s 285/70/R17 config. I didn't even know they came as 285/75/R17.
They are available in the narrower 34x10.5x17 as well. That is what I put on my F-150.
I noticed the bfg 285/75/17 is costing $260. And the 34/10.5/17 is around $310. Was it similar when you purchased yours
I thought that a 305 was a 33”
Whats the biggest ko2 tire you can go with without lift on a 18" stock jlu sahara?
35"
