    Another tip, spurred by your pointing out the front rim specs printed on the rim; I've seen plenty of low-end bikes with labeling on them such as 'suspension' or 'off road' or some other obvious junk that should go without saying. They try to highlight blatant attributes to seem more desirable. Worst part is that these bikes, most often, should NOT be doing the things these labels imply.
    Great video!!

    I saw the writing on the title “no stickers” and I thought you were gonna cover a topic I find very interesting and actually never talked about.. When pros or guys that were sponsored or getting on something new will either not have stickers cause they choose to not advertise for a brand since they are not getting anything, contract obligations with other sponsors, commercial work and when a pro is getting on a new company he will go stickerless to not show his new new…. Also as a brand making a sticker is about as important as specs on a bike. Customers are drawn to things that stand out.. either way I’m rambling lol

    The cranks tell all!

      Not always. I prefer to go by bearing quality. And style. Remember every so often you kinda find an almost fully after market custom build that happens to have cheap cranks with pinch bolts on.

    What about stock replacement chromoly forks that are budget friendly, have regular hole, and slot hole in dropouts for hook spacer I call them. I see their quality good for most entry to expert level bmx rider and are budget friendly. I can supply examples if asked to.

  • @TobiasSample
    @TobiasSample 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    With dropouts a good company designs their own dropouts, so they integrate into the frame nicely, they might have the name, some cutouts for weight, and connect with the tubes nicely. Cheap frames may have generic dropouts that are big and yet thin, and sort of stick out in a way.

    So is a GT air a decent bike for a 45 year old 5 foot ten me? I don’t do too much tricks, but I like to ride fast way through people. There is lots of downhill riding in Vancouver. I know GT is a good bike. I love the colour so I grabbed it, since I got $120 off. I weigh 225 lbs but plan to lose 20 pounds quick fast. The the bike is quick, fast. I picked it up today and had so much fun i need it for commuting short distances in a city. What do you think bro?

    What's your opinion on the Stranger Xl rim. It's double wall, but it's pinned. I bought it because it's pretty cheap, but super wide.

    • @Brant_Moore
      @Brant_Moore  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pinned rims can work for a period of time if they are made at a higher quality. There are lots of companies that make a budget pinned rim but the purpose of pointing it out here was because it's often a sign of the quality of other parts on the bike. It also depends on the rider and what they are doing on the bike.

    What will happen if bike got standard cups on headsets when doing freestyle tricks?

    • @Brant_Moore
      @Brant_Moore  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It can be fine, the headset just wont last as long and it usually means the frame isn't chromoly which means it's not as strong

    We have similar thoughts, Brant. Mine are as follows:
    1. Integrated Headset
    2. Mid Bottom Bracket
    3. Dropouts with integrated chain tensioners
    4. Female front hub
    As for forks, just one rule:
    1. Is it a one-piece steerer tube?

    I remember seeing kid doing manuals in walmart on a walmart bmx bike. Had to be only 12. Told his Dad they need to go to Pusher BMX to buy bike.. Its in Colorado. If I saw a kid that i could tell they are going to ride around in driveway I dont say nothing to their Dad.. So its just so funny how dudes especially pros on youtube s#it on a bike thats made to never leave ground like Brant said and prolly be left outside to rust after a month or two when they get bored.

    Remember a few European companies still use Spanish bbs not necessarily lower quality frames just not the best bb choice by modern standards.

    • @bmxriderforlife1234
      @bmxriderforlife1234 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Loose ball or semi sealed hubs. 14mm front axles. Male 3/8ths rear axles. Any brake type other then 990 posts. Caged drop outs.
      Rear tire clearance. Pretty much every modern frame even some flatland frames can clear a 2.25 rear. If it can't might be mighty old.

    • @bmxriderforlife1234
      @bmxriderforlife1234 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tip for peeps on unsealed rear hubs. Unless it's older or certain designs. The non drive side should almost always be a single nut on that side. If it's dual nuts on the non drive side stay away unless it's a nankai freecoaster hub and you only intend to do flatland riding.

    The legacy untamed is full chro mo and all that. Only thing that worries me is the stem. It has one of those star nut compression caps. Would it be a problem? Can I replace it with a proper compression cap or stem?

    • @Brant_Moore
      @Brant_Moore  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s in the fork and just means the forks aren’t of the highest quality. If they are still full chromoly as well then they’re going to be fine. But if they’re hi-ten steel I would replace them.

  • @samuelfoster7218

    S&M pitchfork isn't tapered and flat on the bottom and has the hole at the top for the old style breaks and cost me $230.00 american.

    • @Brant_Moore
      @Brant_Moore  ปีที่แล้ว

      The old school pitchfork is this way, but the modern pitchfork is absolutely tapered.

  • @TobiasSample
    @TobiasSample 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the note about the headtube is important not because pressed-in headset cups are shit, but because it's cheap to make, and if a manufacturer went for the cheap-ass option there then it's going to be poor quality elsewhere.
