    Hi Emongg - this is bertmerps, thank you so much for spectating my VOD!!! You are completely right about target prioritization. And you could probably tell when I started getting tilted that game (It was after the first round that they started constantly complaining about me). Rewatching it again, it def was not my best gameplay. I think having 3 other teammates spending so much energy telling me what to do really negatively effected my gameplay. I was spending too much time trying to figure out how to appease them - but lesson learned. Just mute chat and keep vibing

      I hope your climb goes well my friend. At least you are aware of the mistakes you made and can work on them and a good way to avoid getting tilted is to just mute chat yeah. I know it can feel bad that you have less communication but negative communication is worse then no communication.

      do /hidechat from the start of the match people will always flame the tank for everything. If target prioritisation is something you want to focus on you have to hammer it in your head, complete 100% focus on the thing you're trying to improve even if other areas may suffer temporarily. Try not to autopilot

    Their team may have misidentified the issue as a lack of aggression because the target priority and cooldown management isn't great. Lacking those skills leads to a lack of efficiency and uptime in active fights, which can make gameplay seem passive in contrast.
    That, or it's just cause they expected the tank to be their personal bodyguard.

  • @iliya1933

    17:49 - This is why I think people should only ask for specific changes from a teammate, like "can you take an angle so they don't have all the space to walk in on us," "can we hold this corner," "can you play with me so that the Sombra/Tracer can't shut us down," "would you mind swapping to a hitscan to pressure the Pharah/Mercy," etc. (not all tank-specific, of course). If you tell a player, no matter what rank they're in (but probably more so in low/mid ranks) that they're "playing too passive," then they're much more likely to "play more aggressive" and die like they did here. And if that's not exactly what happens, at the very least, they're going to start second guessing themselves mid-fight, and while thinking is a good thing, indecision is a bad thing. Sometimes a player is just kind of autopiloting, and telling them they're playing too passive can wake them up to the right changes they need to make, but I think that's pretty rare in games like this.
    EDIT: emongg mentions it again at 21:29

    Another big thing is look at the dps on each team. Cass+Genji vs Phara+Mei. The enemy team's dps have a way easier way to apply that 20% reduced healing while your Phara has no value against that unless she's getting 2 kills a fight. Dps players are gonna have to learn to swap off heros like Phara, Hanzo, Widow because that 20% reduced healing is literally game defining right now, and if you aren't straight up killing 1-2 enemies per fight than you have less value than a sniper tracer bc at least that 1 dmg applies the full debuff which gives your team that window of opportunity

  • @azeplayt4546
    @azeplayt4546 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    In my understanding, when team says "play more aggro" it means more like to lead the fight on and not to feed. As a main support player, I want to tell my tank to stay near heals, that doesnt mean that they have to be in front of me all the time, but it means they should be in range to come back to the supports and get healed up. Nothing is more frustrating to see a tank who constantly stays on the wrong side of the payload as an example, so they are out of sight, and forcintg the support player to take a very bad position, in which they likely will die (especially if there is a sniper in the other team and ofc most tanks dont care about that) or they are in general just out of range. Playing Ana, tank is always on the wrong side of the payload, or a wall. Still cant heal through a wall. Playing Baptiste, leaving the immortality field with almost no HP left, just to fall over and die, instead waiting to be healed up enough. - so dont take what your team says literally, but do also not dismiss all requests. Especially if the supports players ask for "lets regroup; watch your healthbar; dont run away from me, when I am trying to heal you" - most of the time, when I ask a player to come back for heals or not to over commit if they expect to be healed, they should stay reasonable near to 1. come back for heals themselfs or 2. give the support (depending which one ofc) the opportunity to heal them. - If you charge across the map, and expect to be healed and take no damage, that's not going to work. But usually people are just like "It's just a game" or "you just suck, because I play perfect ofc" and then the blame game and hate game starts. even asking to regroup is considered "toxic" - yeah great, one day you won't be even able to say "good day" anymore without that being "toxic language"

    The tank IMO is the quarterback of the team or at least that’s the way I play , I’m constantly telling my team what we’re gonna do and calling out the squishies who can die and suggesting counter picks for my DPS/Healers , I’m super flexible when it comes to my hero pool

    I’m a support main and when I play tank just for fun in QP I’m always diving the supports. I noticed that alot of tank players focus either the dps or the other tank and it’s frustrating to say the least.
    I played a game as dva on new junk city and by the end of that game the enemy mercy told me to get gastric bypass surgery and to go fms. So make the supports life a living hell when you can as a tank because then you’ll maybe get messages like that lmao

    • @assimilater-quicktips
      @assimilater-quicktips 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      It depends on the situation. For me at my current rank and skill set I OFTEN get more value focusing dps than support. Support players have so many tools to stay alive it generally takes somewhat remarkable circumstances to make their lives all that difficult.
      Another thing to keep in mind, if your tank and support are at different skill levels (something I suspect is very likely) what works for you when you play tank may not work nearly as well for the tank in your support games

    • @djinscar2304
      @djinscar2304 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      luckily your qp mmr is so low that the enemy just lets you dive the backline without consequences. Once you get a bit better the enemy dps wont let you kill the mercy for free like that on top of the mercy being harder to dive in general.

      @fawnleif 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@djinscar2304I’m plat and ik that’s low but damn no need to roast me😭
      Also there can obviously be complications when diving the supports. Yes, supports have a lot of tools to sustain themselves and that makes it difficult to dive them but it’s still possible. I’d say I probably killed the mercy around 5 times and the game went on for like 10 minutes. I didn’t think I killed her that many times until they typed in the chat that message.
      I was also referring to tanks in lower ranks. After watching a lot of spectating videos you’ll notice sometimes the lower tanks don’t go for the supports very often.
      I was just reiterating target priority and I’ve never been above plat but I’m sure going for the support that’s out of position is probably what a dva could do. But what do I know

    • @fawnleif
      @fawnleif 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@assimilater-quicktipsoh yeah it’s definitely situational. What I meant was when you see the opportunity definitely go for the supports. Lower ranks just have poor target priority.

    I'm in metal ranks and I find regardless of what role you play if you lose the game ( sometimes even if you're winning which is weird ) the team has to blame somebody rather its the tank or support, dps do get blamed but not as often in my experience. I feel like most metal players do not understand the importance of using cover because healing has majorly took a hit this season. Most play out in the open and expect to do whatever they want like they could in previous seasons when healing was majorly op. This tank did a good job at using cover most of the time so I would definitely want tanks like this on my team ♡ plus we're in metal ranks and if you don't have a massive ego then you know your still working on improving your game play as well to get higher ranked. I turned off my chat and it's actually helped my focus so much! I'm also not distracted and actually playing the game instead of having a chat war. I found I have lost games that we were close to winning because people are being toxic in the chat and stopped playing the game. It's really frusterating because we're in metal ranks and still working on the basics we don't have enough skill to multitask typing with game play yet. But anyways sorry for the essay and watching this review Emongg gave me a better understanding of what tanks have to go through, so thank you.

    This is why everyone should play a bit of every role. Even if they’re bad at it or have never played it try it out in quick play so that you can really recognize when and where to take blame. If you literally out yourself in the shoes of another role it widens your perspective. You can see why your tank didn’t just “go in” or “push up” make the play you think they should’ve made and see where it gets you. I’m a support main but I play both DPS and tank. It caused me to flame people less and look at myself more. IMO it makes you a better support as well because you can recognize where to apply your support. For your DPS.

    idea for a series teach players what areas of the map are key and what positioning is. this tank has no idea how to defend a map. in fact inmy experience most players dont know how to play defense becuase its not as somple as playing offense is.

      compensating for your team is legitimately part of climbing. if you want to win, you need to do more than just your part. you need to do your job and also help out in areas where your teammates might be struggling. for a tank, that literally might mean working on disengaging earlier to go for a health pack so you don't have the downtime when you're waiting for your supports to notice you need help and then actually help you. yes, you momentarily leave the fight but you're back sooner than you might be otherwise. if one of your dps is struggling really badly, then maybe you have to adjust to a more death match play style to get the elims first before trying to take map control. these are just examples, I don't know the exact adjustments you might need to make because I don't know the exact types of mistakes that your teammates will make.
      but basically, yeah, you do have to compensate for your team's weaknesses. that's how you climb through any rank, not just bronze.

    That’s 100% true though when you have a good team with good healers and good DPS that tank most of the tanks, diva reaper which Orissa they should be beasts I mean beast. They should be hammering hard on everything and just depending on healers to keep them alive and DPS to clean up the Fringes I mean you know you gotta know you played with somebody that played like that right and it’s just a moralizing for the other team when you see a diva sitting up in the air on a ledge shooting from long range, they’re bullets, splashing all over the ground around the target doing virtually no damage With absolutely no reason why they’re not pushing hard on that person. You know your diva just doesn’t have a clue, and of all of them diva come on diva has a fast school down on her boosters she can get in and out of trouble really quickly and the only time she shouldn’t dive in is if she hast to face tank, you know the entire other team but if it’s a one on one, she should win that every time, the closer she gets the more bullets that hit if she’s got her missiles it’s a no-brainer it is so frustrating when the tank with 5 to 600 health is sniping or trying to flank or doing some shit that’s not helping at all even reaper with lower health what is he like 375 now he can get in the midst of shit and go all ape and start punching people to death and then also just fucking demoralizes the other team I mean again if you’re five on one you’re gonna die almost instantly, but if it’s one or two, and there’s a healer on you You’re gonna kill one real quick three punches max. He can go from long range where if you’re good at aiming that beam of his I don’t know what it’s called is what is staff weapon that shit does a lot of damage as long as you’re hitting the target and then if they move up or you move up up close you start punching he’s he’s a beast, so is Orissa with her abilities so is diva with her ability to pick a target and just dive on it and and soon as it dies turn, and boost away again I mean, they hold back their times not back many times are not choosing the right time people have eagles and they’re afraid to die so they don’t take risks and the team that’s doing that loses almost every time

      I mean, there are classic support mistakes that I'm sure you make too. that's why you're in the same rank as the tanks who very rarely use cover. something you'll learn as you climb, assuming that's something you're working on, is how to make fewer of the classic support mistakes. as you make fewer mistakes and climb, then you'll also see tanks who make fewer of the classic tank mistakes.

EVEN IF you’re not straight up telling them the wrong thing (and if you’re a metal rank you are absolutely telling them the wrong thing don’t delude yourself) IF the player listens to your advice it’s ALWAYS going to lead to your teammates playing worse. I’m not into telling people what to do (and never in QP), but I’ll gladly say “1v5 ain’t gonna work, champ” and actually something helpful “if possible, Ana or zen would be great against this Mauga/Hog” … or the classic “Moira, your 1-8 dps flanks aren’t working, healing might be a better help” … but whatever, usually its a ‘gg go next’ if your tank just likes to stand on the payload or Bap is 3000 damage to 800 heals with nothing to show for it or dps likes to fight a bob solo. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    • @assimilater-quicktips
      @assimilater-quicktips 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@fawnleif you don’t really got to tell them anything. They got to where they are by doing what they’re doing so clearly it works well enough for them to be here. And you’re not going to be around after the ONE game you’re with them to take responsibility for the bad or at the very least short-sighted advice you give them. If they’re 1v5 and you think it’s losing you the game join them and make it 2v5 for a fight or two, see if it works. Your climbing is a function of you, and it’s not make or break over 1 loss from someone doing something that seems stupid to you

    • @glurb69
      @glurb69 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@assimilater-quicktips When I play tank, sometimes I just need someone to tell me "hey be more mindful of your healthbar" or "stop overextending" or even "you need to push" (that one is a bit more annoying because typically when I'm told that it's because if I move any further up I will explode). Sometimes, especially with the rank reset, friendly advice could be really helpful because there are going to be people who end up in places they shouldn't be on the matchmaker, who have no idea what's going on. I very, very rarely ask anything of my teammates because I don't care enough to, but when someone or a role is dropping the ball, I ask if we could get different heroes. I never demand it or anything, I just say "Hey, [HERO NAME] could be good here to counter [HERO NAME]" or "Hey they have a Sym and a Zarya maybe DVA isn't the best choice." Sometimes people go really hard on the backseating and the yelling and make ridiculous demands, and that sucks, but I think there is a right way to give advice and instruction. I totally get it, it's frustrating to be told what to do, but for some people it could be helpful, especially if you're not telling them to do or not to do something, but instead gently explaining how they could improve.

    Unpopular Opinion: Players aren’t bad for their rank, or bad at the game cause being good is subjective to anyone’s journey and the game is widely changing so who’s good at it is always changing. The real problem is toxic players. I understand that the game isn’t fun when you’re losing, it isn’t for all of us. But maybe instead of watching your death maybe spectate. And actually watch and not scroll tiktok for 5 seconds. I go in voice chat and positively yet vulgarly tell them what they did wrong or give a suggestion of a new play and tell them that we got this! Cause being negative isn’t good for anyone cause at that point the game ain’t fun when ppl are spending 30 seconds typing when they could be playing. Positive games make for positive results, if your having fun your having fun not your having fun cause your cracked at the game and you’re diffing everyone yea it may be fun for you, but that isn’t everyone’s, so maybe give some helpful and not brain dead tips and maybe you’ll see some improvement. Even if it’s just thanking and tbaging your healers cause you won the team fight it all makes a difference in how the game is played when you are genuinely having fun

      you didn't drop from gold 5 to silver 2 because of your teammates. you dropped from gold 5 to silver 2 because you keep making silver mistakes and aren't ready to climb further into gold/stay in gold. full stop.
      it's very common to spend a little time bouncing between, in your case, silver 2 to like, gold 4. you're right on the edge of a new rank, you're still figuring out how to shed your silver mistakes and play well enough to climb further into gold. you'll have the same issue if you eventually get to the gold 2-plat 4 range. that's normal because the game changes as you move between ranks. you've already figured out what you need to do to win silver games for the most part. now you're in the process of learning how to win gold games consistently. you're going to struggle for a bit, and that's okay. you will struggle less and for a shorter period of time when you stay focused purely on yourself and your mistakes, though.

      You're in bronze, people don't know how to capitalise with the dive playstyle, you need to play other tanks and when you climb switch back to Winston

    • @sethescope
      @sethescope 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      you're in bronze. neither you nor your teammates know how to play dive. stop trying to force a play style that is fundamentally incompatible with your rank and current skill level and focus on enabling your team. dive requires a high level of teamwork and the mechanical skills to properly time dives and following up on your teammates. these skills do not exist in bronze.
      think about it like this: currently, you're in bronze. your first goal is to get to silver. the best way to do that is to play like someone in high silver or gold. don't try to force strats or team comps you see in top 500 games. just play like you deserve silver or gold by not making the most common mistakes made by bronze and low silver players. you don't need to overcomplicate it. just focus on making fewer mistakes, and the way to do that is by first identifying your biggest or most common mistakes.
      I'm not about to say "don't play Winston" because I don't think that's good advice. I climbed from gold 2 to diamond 3 in a single season primarily as Mercy (5x the hours on her in ranked than my next most played hero). I'm a firm believer in playing who you want to play and that you can be successful with any hero you want. but you absolutely need to focus on your own bad plays and your mistakes. working on having realistic and reasonable expectations of your teammates sounds like it would be a great first step for you.
