The Easter Festival is an internationally renowned event among classical music lovers, traditionally opened in Moscow on Easter Sunday. Each year the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra and its musical director Valery Gergiev travel across Russia - for the past 10 years now!
In 2012 we were given an exceptional musical gift: the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev performed the complete cycle of Sergei Prokofiev’s symphonies and piano concerti - a composer with whom Maestro Gergiev and the orchestra seem particularly in tune. - เพลง

What an orchestra, conductor and as a fiddler myself (RPO) I have to say what a performance from Leonid! My God! I listened twice one after the other. Thank You everyone. Love from Tottenham. Incredible, inspiring technique Kavakos has. Prokofiev probably knew the concerto would be premiered in Spain and so he inserted the castanets in the third movement. Or perhaps it's just a coincidence. He could have used any other noise maker but he didn't. Bravo!!

Kavakos' the very best attraction comes from the posture of the BOW HAND which has changed from his young period. The FIGURA of his bow hand gained extremely utilizing all the knuckle bones as much as a human structure can project!
I adore the delicacy of his playing.

This is a Stradivari toothpick, specially suited for concertos played with Strad violins.

Gergiev geralmente conduz com um palito de dentes. Acho que é pra orquestra prestar mais atenção nos gestos dele do que na batuta (se isso fizer sentido).
@@miguelfontesmeira mas o q eu acho estranho é q o Karajan sempre regeu sem batuta e com leves movimentos de sobrancelha e tava tudo bem. O gergiev é brilhante, mas esteticamente esse palito... Parece q acabou de comer um ovo de codorna e tá com pena de desperdiçar o toco de madeira... Estranhérrimo...

Can anyone explain to me-WHY Prokofiev wrote a Topic, which is obviously in 5/4-in 4/4!?! In my opinion - only and only - to make it difficult for the Orchestra ... Ie. Some say to him - "to make it interesting" ... (Nobody disputes the virtuosity of the soloist, the orchestra and the great Gergiev).

Fine performance of one of the finest violin concertos. Much better than the overdone histrionics of Janine Jansen, who makes the final movement sound as if she's using a hacksaw rather than a bow.

just because the man has now"show" and glamour,other than true musicianship and integrety , he is "undoubtely boring" ????? I bet you are not a musician
Actually I am, and I know the concerto well (and played it). I admire Kavakos as one of the best violinist today, but he is not my favorite in this concerto. His technique his amazing, but not as creative and colorful here as others like Jansen - who again is not my favorite in everything either- Listen just to the opening phrase. Unavoidable to compare in youtube, with all these great players at the right side of the screen waiting to show their renditions...! Believe me, glamour doesn´t distract me ;)

boring is a subjective word, and boring by comparison is even more subjective. The expression Kavakos has in the opening line is very different than Jansen's, much more subtle, subdued, and internal. it's personal preference at the end of the day, but I wouldn't diminish his interpretation by calling it boring, that's not what art is about.

An amazingly over-rated violinist. Of course, this is the period of technical clones and musical mediocrity, so therefore Kavakos, and many others like him, must be considered.

Perhaps we are too used to artists imposing their personalities and ideas on composers. Would you rather hear Kavakos playing Prokofiev, or Prokofiev being played by Kavakos? We are all secondary to the music, and in my opinion Kavakos allows Prokofiev's music to shine through and not his own ideas and ego...that is artistic integrity.

It was enough to put me off for the last two movements. I am familiar with Kavakos's playing. The orchestra I play in just performed the Sibelius Concerto with a new wunderkind, Karen Su. We performed it twice, and she played it exactly the same way both times. Of course, one has to admire the technical proficiency for one so young (17), and the musical maturity will come later. But I would be hard-pressed to know any real difference, if someone asked me, between Kavakos's or Su's rendition, or Hahn's or Ehnes', for that matter, of the same concerto. It all sounds the same to me. A generic musical and technical approach to the violin dominate the scene today. Gone are the days of the Franco-Belgium School, the Italian School, the German School, Russian School, the English School. It's basically German Generic and Russian Tech. There are those who stand out: Janine Jansen, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Sergey Khatchatryan, Christian Tetzlaff - for their musicality and individual approach to the repertoire. But the younger the violinist, it seems, the more profound is the conformity.
