New developments are destroying wetlands that used to be able to absorb the water

Sarasota county commissioners allow developments everywhere..even wetlands that would have helped run off from the endless new developments

Home insurance does not, and never did cover flooding. It's not about "Getting Screwed" it's about having flood insurance. People just don't want to pay the Flood insurance which is approx. $800 per year by FEMA. Now they will have a $100,000+ repair bill. With temps here in Fl. around 90 for another month, the mold will grow like crazy. in 1972 hurricane Camille hit Forty Fort PA. the entire town was in the flood plain. No one had flood insurance.. it was only $95 a year back then. People lost everything. the Gov. gave interest free 10 loans to keep the town alive.

Some hurricanes are mainly rain events, some are mainly wind events. Obviously this was a severe rain event. Slow moving forward speed with tons of rain. Experienced this in the Bahamas many times. Hope everyone recovers soon.

The county is to blame. FOR Endless dense new construction, covering the land with impervious surfaces.. channeling the Creeks, filling in wetlands, this is the result. water will always win.. there is no solution now for this. It will happen every time we get a major rain of 6" or more. same will happen in Manatee County.. Out of control development. Everything gets approved.. all about the dollar. Now this happening in NE Florida as well.
