This too will pass is the mainstay of my life ...my life gets simplified every year I started in large house then into campervans now in mini van no power 20 years since I left my house. It's in my blood born on houseboat bought up in a bus only middle years in houses. I cannot stay in one place for too long. I feel a connection to this awesome lady💗

She is definitely smart!!!! I loved this vid! I wish her well to keep going strong!!!!!❤️ People have sold out to companies who will give products for promotion. They play on people emotions and at the end of it all, they purchase their dream of land or whatever they desire. You did a wonderful job on this podcast. She told truth and your questions were spot on, giving her the opportunity to tell it all. Wonderful vid!!!!!!! She is the real deal! I would follow her life experiences definitely.

This has been one of the most encouraging & real interviews I've watched. A breath of fresh air as I'm currently living in a modest basement suite for $1450/month. That price is considered inexpensive in this area. The application process was very competition is conditional not being able to enjoy my woodworking hobby as it is considered to be too noisy for the other occupants. It's extremely frustrating having to pay this amount and I feel like I don't have the freedoms to pursue my hobbies. This was out of necessity. I have been displaced from major flooding and had lost my woodworking shop and rv I had been renovating. This has lit the fire to not give up to be bound to selling out. Thank you for posting this.

There is a couple in Scotland who live in a van, lady is a weaver, the guy is a woodworker, sell their goods online. They travel slowly, parked up in nature, heating and cooking using a little woodstove.

Good luck to you! Don't give up, it's important to pursue a hobby, is there any you could make some $$ off it? Too bad you can't rent a large garage, or old shop to live & work in. Where there's a will there's away! I know you can do it!

She's honest, I am always grateful when I come across someone like her... thoughtful and present; by that I mean she seems more concerned with making an earnest connection, sharing her heroic exit from the harsher realities of daily life (many of us just can't do the "groundhog dayesque" robotic, monkey see- monkey do Lifestyle-- it's not mental illness to hate the bizarre reality where everyone is dying since birth and calling slavery the +labor force+ seems like word swapping trickery- +force labor+ -imo🙊🥴). When she said she would not be here anymore if she had to continue living by someone else's ideas of life, I kNEW I was looking at a HERo! 🌹🕊️🥰 #lovingUS #heROSE

This was probably recommended to me because I watch Amanda’s channel.
I’ve always appreciated her outright honesty and down to earth attitude. While some other TH-camrs are chasing a certain image (that is feeling a bit cliché lately) Amanda is keeping it real.
She’s always come across to me as a woman who needs full control of everything in her life and while it has it’s inconveniences, she’s doing what works for her and her pooch with van life. That’s not a bad thing, that’s empowerment. She’s clearly thought things through.

This was such a wonderful interview. When i learned about van dwelling was about 10 years ago, & some ppl did it for mental health, others because of 2008, so it was a kind of necessity. There was nothing fancy about the life, just existing without certain pressures and how they made it work so that healing could come in. I can't stand the instagram image now. I still dream about van dwelling today because of that simplicity and healing aspect, as there are many things about the way we live in society i just struggle with. I really do think some people, through mental health issues or personalities, are truly not meant for this modern way society has developed. Anyway, i'm going to check out her channel. Thank you!

Amanda is just amazing to me. She surprises me all the time. She is definitely like an onion with many layers. Candid, but shy. Introverted until she's had a beer. Crazy smart. Artistic and a little mechanically enthusiastic, if not so inclined. Spiritual, practical and a born naturalist. Her videos are wonderful. I wish she made more of them, but I understand that is me being selfish. This was a well done interview, but there is so much to this woman, you could do another one and see another side of her or just watch her videos.💗

“I do a lot better as a human, not living on a clock.” I agree. I haven’t had a ‘job’ in two years and have been living on savings paying my rent til I can figure out a way to create a more consistent income without a standard job because I literally cannot be on other peoples time anymore. My sleep and energy levels are very much not normal and erratic so I just don’t have it in me to have a set schedule anymore and to force myself to stay locked into something with such regularity for the promise of consistent money. I should have purchased and moved into a vehicle 6 months ago when I had the opportunity to but I was still locked into a lease and now I don’t have the funds for anything reliable and my current tiny vehicle has been stationary for a month while I work for myself to create something with the foundation of peace and happiness. Love Amanda’s channel and Patreon content. I appreciate most the fact that she seems to have a similar mindset about van life as I currently do as a means to get out of a vicious cycle and not an Instagram fairytale. Can NOT bring myself mentally to going back to a 9-5 lifestyle but may need to pick up some part time work pretty soon to make ends meet until the right set of circumstances line up but I mentally have no interest in being locked in to someone else’s timing of things. It feels so unnatural to me. Has created way too many issues both mentally, energetically, emotionally and physically for me to ever want to go back to that way of living.

But she lives dirt poor how can somebody be comfortable living dirt poor. There's things like medicine that food things you have to have to live. Nobody likes work but I like to eat and I have a lot of medicine I have to buy I don't know what I would do without money.

    • @havefaithtarot
      @havefaithtarot 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@tonyastanphill715 I also live dirt poor, but I also don’t have to pretend that I’m a machine anymore. The less you need the more you have. Someone could give me $1000 and it would last me way longer now than it would have when I was making that much after one week of work. When I had a consistent job with consistent money I burned through it like no tomorrow and still lived paycheck to paycheck. Now I literally just pretend like money doesn’t exist and the money I do get goes way way further in the long run. It requires a lot of lifestyle adjustments but it’s also very freeing to not feel like a slave to pieces of paper. If you watch her channel, she’s doing just fine and has been making steady improvements. It’s all a matter or priorities, and hers happens to be free time to explore and learn, not build up someone else’s wallet for scraps.

I feel Amanda to my core. Very impressed with her life's work -making conventional and frugal life work, transitioning to van life in a thoughtful way, honoring her convictions and values. Do it your way, take action based on your values, reject conventions that are toxic. Chances are high that if something is toxic for you, it's toxic for many others. She knows herself so well that the only reason a stranger would have difficulty with her would be entirely because of their own circumstances, not hers.

@tidelinetoalpine is one of my favorite humans, she is so inspirational, honest and transparent. I was one of her first subscribers as I've been following her on instagram for almost 3 years. It's been a pleasure to watch her recent subscriber success on youtube, and it's been so much fun to watch her channel blossom as her photography/videography skills are just awesome. She keeps her videos real, no background music (which is so rare, and I loathe it) and hearing the sounds of nature while she's doing her thing is the best. I beg all youtube creators to stop using background music in their videos. It often ruins the video.

There are at least as many different potential ways to be happy as there are people in the world.
We got our Econoline because the cost of booking hotels and airbnbs for my wife's tattoo conventions has become insane compared to what you get, and I also needed a flexible work vehicle for home improvement projects. Even I, as a person who doesn't live in my van, get tired of seeing underwear models in $90k Sprinters.
Also just a sidenote, I've developed a minor crush on Amanda from different interviews I've seen of her. I don't align with her philosophically in a lot of ways, but she strikes me as very authentic, not to mention entertaining AF.

In my younger old, converted school bus with a boyfriend on a communal farm. Several years later, I lived with a different BF in a car with NO reverse while traveling to visit old friends in about 4 States. We had sleeping bags, a Coleman cooler and my Uncle gave us an old Coleman Propane stove so we didn't have to cook on a campfire anymore. I loved it; loved the feeling of the open road. I later got a college degree and lived a semi-normal life working a 40+ hour week for about 37 years. My plans when I retired was to get a van and fix it up and just travel all over. I missed my old life so much. But my body had different ideas. Now, with two major surgeries pending for a rotator cuff and a rebuilt knee, I am unable to fulfill that dream. So, I am living vicariously on the lives of other travelers and van dwellers. I still long for that old life; I was much happier being free. Enjoy your freedom while you can. There will come a day when you may have to change once again. Nice to meet you Amanda. I wish you all the best. God speed.

What Amanda says about facing your inner issues is so very important. People run away from any inner discomfort in so many different ways. I realized, not intil my 40’s, that I had to just “ sit” with myself and face any issues that caused me emotional pain and discomfort. People are told they shouldbe “happy” at all times, which is impossible. Rather than live with some emotional pain inmordervto work through it, they run to alcohol or drugs to alleviate the pain…..and, thereby, never finding any true resolution or peace, which keeps them stuck.

What a refreshing conversation! My aha moment came with hearing van life culture described as a gentrified space. It always seemed to me anyone who lives on the road, has found a way to exist on their own terms. Rather than a cool lifestyle, it was driven by a deep need or a passion. This conversation has definitely shifted my ideas for the better. Thank you.

I understand her need to be in control by using her skills to make do with what she has. It's akin to survivalism and it is a great power to have because it makes you feel strong and independent. It's truly awesome. But beware of time: with age, we need more and more comfort to survive and it is a good idea to bear that in mind: upgrade as needed, without feeling that it's a failure ! 😉😀

“You don’t need rules if you know the value of morality”. I live my that and hearing someone articulate it so beautifully gives me proof the world is becoming aware and a lot of us live in vans.

It does not take more time to maintain a house than a van conversion. And much less so an apartment. Your day to day maintenance is much more mundane, time- and energy-absorbing, and labor intensive in a vehicle. That said - Love her points of integrity about not being forced to be dependent on others for her right to housing, not participating in housing as a commodity and not allowing herself to be exploited for others to make money to use in unforeseeable, dubiously ethical ways.

Such a relief to hear Amanda talk about her life and sound delighted to have done without and not whine about it. She is strong, she is real, she is great fun. Wherever you go there you are! For sure. Clocks! I agree Amanda. "I'm just content existing."
Forrest: You wrote "If you read all this give us 1 thumbs up emoji, 1 tree emoji and 1 Video camera emoji in the comment section." I have no clue how to do emoji's! But I read it all.

This was the most interesting interview I have ever seen on living in a van. No talk about the things in the van, just talking about the why, which is so very inspiring in her case. No talk about what she is missing in her van life. All talk about what she is getting. Amanda, I truly wish you wrote a book. Thank you for this video.

I don’t know how I came across this video. What a wonderful way to start my day. I’m a full time caregiver for my queen mom a little over 7 years now and can relate to having the practice of taking a deep breath and dealing with the challenges that come along. I too had very hard working parents that pushed us to become grateful for what we had and helped us become resilient through tough times. I don’t know how long I will be blessed with my mothers presence, but I do know that living on the road will be a part of my life short after she passes as a way to release and reflect. There is definitely something to be said about our connection to nature and the immediate serenity that it induces.
I want to thank you both for this video as it has left me with a wonderful feeling about how amazing humans are when they are being authentic. I will definitely be following both of you ✨♥️✨

You have shown me that real van life is very very hard but if it suits your needs it can be such a blessing. You are so brave, independent and so intune with your emotional well being. Im twice your age but you are an amazing role model to me. Best advice ever,"follow your heart".

I agree. Respect drenched this interview like brandy does a fruitcake. Amanda's respect for her deeply felt values, her well-being, her ability to cope. Forrest's respect for Amanda and the different perspectives she offered. Both of them respecting natural time and flow. Refreshing.

Amanda. As someone who has watched you pretty much every evening, I felt privileged to hear you speak about your life as a van dweller on a much deeper level. I was introduced to the lifestyle I now live myself following the white bread version I was exposed to on TH-cam. You, my girl are the real deal.

I am older . Can a person live on. A disability. Pension 1k ? I have been trying to save up to live in a van .. I am so scared as it gets to -50 on the parries … but I can’t see me living in a box. With out my things. And being told what I can and can’t do in disability senior housing … and if I can’t take my things and if I can’t maybe I’d be more happy in a van working pT doing something? I have looked at the price of all the things for van life and I wonder ? My minni van is falling apart so I hope I can find a high top cargo van . Big enough to put my scooter in … well I have a few things .. I would love to enter for the boost please .. gleam I will try to enter . Thanks . I am 54 and I hope in 1.5 years I can be starting my build and hope to get out of my rundown home I can no longer take care of. I don’t see the link ?
