Your videos have been so helpful to me in the past, honestly I feel like I should be paying to see these ! Thank you so much for sharing your tips and insight, you're incredibly inspiring and just a joy to listen to.
That’s so kind! Haha, I always forget to promote it, but if anyone wants to support me financially as a tip (totally optional!) you can through my Patreon!
@@AnooshaSyedThank you for this video. I really would like to start illustrating children books and from this video I already know what kind of illustration I'd like to go more into but I don't know the art style to go with, so do you have free or paid courses or videos on TH-cam that can very much help me to start as a beginner and advance better from writing to illustration and art style. Thank you
thank you anoosha!! i’ve been binging your vids because i’ve actually been considering getting into picture book illustration but it feels so intimidating!
I love this so much~ I watched all your video's so far and they are truely inspiring. I'm transitioning from Game/concept art to Children's book illustration since it feels more intuative to me. Everything is new, and your video's are so clear and well written. Can't wait to learn from, and watch the other video's comming up!
No Way! I bought your book for my class and we loved it! I thought it was so important so I bought one for every year to show the importance of getting names right! And now I have found your TH-cam! Crazy 😊
This is an amazing series and really needed this because I've always wanted to be an illustrator for books. Mostly book covers, and this gave me so much information I can't wait to see more of this series. Thank you so much, I am curious about how freelance illustrators get these jobs because I've tried looking for publishers but most of them only hire illustrators from their country. I've tried looking for publishers in my country but so far I can't find them. 😔
So interesting! I've been enjoying your videos for a pretty long time now! They've helped me understand the possibilities I'm heading towards in the future. Thank you so much!!
Your videos are a treasure trove of information! Thank you so so much for making them! I hope you make a detailed video about the process of That's Not My Name!
God bless you, these shorter versions are more suitable for me, i can focus more on the subject Cant wait to watch your next videos Especially if you talk about princing concerning each category :p Thank you very much ^^
Love your channel, the effort u put into your content is commendable Your fashion sense is great! I love the background The info u put out is very useful as always ALL THIS IS SOOO GOOD ❤❤❤❤❤❤ IM OVERJOYED
"Ma'am, I want to ask you, for children's book illustration, do we need skills in graphic design, or is there anything else we should learn? Because in this field, the client shares their story, and we have to create illustrations according to it. Please help me understand how to approach illustration in this context. You're a great teacher; I appreciate your guidance."
You need skills in illustration! Start with mastering your art foundations (color/light, perspective, composition, anatomy etc) and when your art skills are strong, then focus on character design and working on a picture book portfolio. I have a separate video on what should be included in a portfolio.
Thank you so much. I have been writing a book and I have been thinking of doing a few illustrations throughout it. You have helped me know my target readers as young adults. Can I paint the Illustrations or should I start learning to use the XP Pen I purchase a year ago. When I was hoping to learn digital art.
You can use either you are most interested in! There is a big market for both digital and traditional illustration. If you are doing traditional, just make sure you have a good scanner!
Thank you very much for all the advice ☺️ I'm preparing my illustration portfolio at the moment and I was wondering if there is a time of year when it is most recommended to submit it or if the period makes no difference. Thank you so much!
Sorry for the late response! I would just avoid the summer months and December-January if you can. Editors are usually either on vacation or overwhelmed with work so it's better to send when things quiet down.
Anoosha, thank you so much for your videos! I'm in my last year of high school, and I see myself being a professional artist in the future, but I don't want to limit myself to only one field. I see you've worked in the animation industry before, and I wanted to ask: Could an animation degree be useful when looking for work as a picture book illustrator? I've always loved animation and would like to study it once I'm done with school, but like I said, I wouldn't want to limit myself to it. I recently started thinking about the possibility of eventually working as a children's book illustrator alongside being an animator; do you think that's plausible?
There are a lot of creators who work both within animation and picture books like myself, so it’s totally possible to do both, however you’ll find that most people will pick one to be their main career, and the other the side gig. So for me, kidlit is my main and I freelance for animation, but I have friends who do the opposite. These are both pretty intense jobs so it’s important to have a balance :) there is overlap in the skills needed but I wouldn’t say that it helps to have an animation degree if you want to work in kidlit. It’s good to keep yourself open to opportunities though!
Hey I love your channel and I recently signed with a literary agent (yay!) thanks to your advice, but I’m a little confused on what to do next. I know bringing work is just a small part of what agents do. Before joining my agency, I tried submitting to publishers/art directors but almost all did not accept unsolicited work. I post my artwork frequently but I have under 200 followers so it would probably take a long time to get noticed or any work through social media. Any advice?
Hey! Have you discussed a game plan with your agent on your career path? What they are doing on their end and what you could be doing on yours? As well as planning out what your career goals are and how you guys are going to reach them? Having a discussion like that would be a good start. You don’t need a huge online presence (most artists I know have under 2K) but you can start to cold email art directors and connect w them on social media
Very helpful. Thank you for sharing this. Excited for the series and to learn more, especially as i am currently working on a children's book commission.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Would you be able to tell us what the standard rate is to charge for something like the monochrome illustration for chapter books?
It’s dépendant on a lot of factors! I’d reccomend checking out my video on Pricing for Artists :)
Actually how to draw illustrations ?
Very helpful. Thank you for sharing this. Excited for the series and to learn more, especially as i am currently working on a children's book commission.
