    Hi Heather, I’m new here! Just started watching your videos a few days ago, as I was researching how to illustrate and publish my own children’s book online. I had no idea where to start, but It’s something I am passionate about and would absolutely love to do sometime soon. I cannot stress enough how helpful your videos and tutorials have been, as they are so informative, well-explained, and have answered specific questions that I could not find answers to elsewhere! I have subscribed and will definitely be sticking around to watch more of your videos, as well as to support your channel. Thank you so much!! 😊

    Thank you so much for clarifying the tools you started out with. I've been an Android girl since they came out. 😉 With that being said all of my artist friends tell me I need the Ipad for drawing with Procrete. I've done my fiction writing with my Chromebook and Android devices. I would love to get back to drawing but worry about the Ipad cost and what the lower budget versions are. You have given me ideas and hope that eventually I can afford one.

      OMG me too!! I still use Android for my phone (I have the Google Pixel 6) and I will never switch to iPhone. (I actually used to work for Google so I'm a teeny bit biased 😉) But yeah the iPad is amazing to draw with. I don't remember if I said it in the video but my iPad was only $200 refurbished off of eBay! The apple pencil I got new because it was pretty much the same price as used, $99.

    This video is brilliant! As an untrained artist I'll often approach my work quite naively, going with the feeling colour and tone wise. I'm also brand new to digital art and miss that human touch that I get from doing watercolours traditionally. I'll begin to explore the pencils and brushes more.
    I'm struggling to use the 'edit text' function in Procreate for 2 reasons: first it doesn't always listen to the Apple pencil and secondly, I'm unable to use the dictate/microphone feature like I can with other programs on my ipad. Would you have a tips for me please?
    Thank you Heather. 🌸🌿🙏🏽

      Hi! I'm so glad you like the video!! As for text, honestly I avoid adding text directly in Procreate at all costs because it is SUCH a pain and very frustrating. I recommend creating the artwork in Procreate, and then pulling that into either Canva or Photoshop and adding your text there.
      I have tutorials for doing that in both Canva and Photoshop, and if you aren't familiar with those programs check out my video on Canva vs Photoshop for your children's book. 🙃

    Hi Heather!
    I stepped away from self publishing a few months ago because of my inability to illustrate that looked like quality work. I was querying agents-ugh! I’m back since that process takes about two years to actually have your book in your hands. I noticed that Canva upgraded and now I can’t find my 12x12 book formatting that I purchased from you. Do you know how to search for previously purchased products in Canva? I have the pro version.

      Oh my gosh! I think it might have been 8.5x8.5 and I found it! 😊
      Wish me luck. I’m going to need it!

    I want to start my own children's book. Is Adobe Illustrator better or procreate to get into it all?

    • @HeatherCashArt
      @HeatherCashArt  23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Illustrator is for vector drawing, whereas procreate is for raster drawing, so it kinda depends on what style you're going for. If solid colors and shapes, pick illustrator, but if you want to have textures like colored pencil, watercolor, or any kind of rough texture, then use procreate.
      But really, you don't need vector at all for a children's book. So even if you want solid colors you can still use procreate...
      Illustrator / vector drawing is really more for a specific use like something that needs to be scaled as big as needed (like a logo) or something to be cut out with the Cricut etc.

    Great tutorial! I just have one question. For your background I notice a white border around the canvas. Is that showing because of a special setting or something else? Thanks!

    • @HeatherCashArt
      @HeatherCashArt  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hmm, I am not sure, it is just the way it's showing up in the Procreate interface.

    can i do this with illustrator on my laptop? I can't afford these tools

    • @HeatherCashArt
      @HeatherCashArt  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Illustrator is more for vector drawing, so you wouldn't have texture and shading. You could use a different program like Photoshop or Krita (Krita is free), but it would be really hard to draw with a mouse.
      There are some drawing tablets that are like $40 that you can hook up to your laptop.
      Hope that helps!

    What happens if you select CMYK for the color profile? Can you then print in CMYK without converting?

    • @HeatherCashArt
      @HeatherCashArt  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, you can create the original artwork in CMYK if you want. The colors will be more dull than if you went with RGB. It's really up to you. If you want a version with brighter colors to post on social media etc then you can do it in RGB and then convert later.
