I am a Dyslexic, and this video was emotional for me. I could barely read and write growing up, the school passes me on, when I was 15 my mother and stepfather force me to quit school, telling me I was too stupid to learn, I was needed to watch my siblings. as I grew up I did not have anyone that believed in me, and I believed I was to stupid, after all, I was told that. Life has not been easy but I look at Dyslexia as a gift I am thankful for.

Wow. This resonates with me so much. When I was a young girl my father always called me stupid. In school the speech therapist recommended i see a specialist but I never got to.. in high school I struggled so instead of my parents getting to the bottom of the issue, my mother pulled me out of school. She had been threatened truancy charges and so all my life I struggled and thought I was stupid or damaged some how and now I know I'm not. I'm sorry about what happened to you but it made you who you are and you are incredible!! Believe in yourself and your dreams will come true.

I look back on behaviors of my parents and know they were wrong, but I refuse to allow my circumstances of my childhood to rule my adult life, or live in anger and bitterness. this video is very emotional :,( I had a lot of troubles when I started to read my dad always got mad at me because I wasn't able to read a sentence whit out make a mistake, he didn't know what was happening on my brain... I lost the interest of reading very young because I thought I was dumb, I wasn't able to read and understand. I discovered my dyslexia at my 38's, this open the whole vision of my life, I'm not dumb I'm just different. I'm here watching videos, learning new things from great people, and I feel smart. It's awesome to hear the encouragement from these successful people. I was diagnosed with Dyslexia and ADHD at a young age, but at the time, no one really knew how to help me so I spent my whole life struggling and feeling I was stupid. Within the last few months, I've been forced to seek out help for my dyslexia just so I can do my job at work. More people need to realize in many areas, there's help if you have a disability, but unfortunately it's not always to find.

I started researching dyslexia after I had a conversation with my wife about me being dyslexic. She thought I always knew but I never realized why I had difficulty In school, reading, while growing up, etc. This was nice to watch, and I believe I truly have a super power. It’s something that allowed me to succeed in life. I always felt I had an advantage because I could see the big picture of any problem. I work as a tradesman, and I’m pursing film making on my spare time. I’m always told that my work is very creative. Those who are struggling, remember you have a gift, not a disadvantage. Learn how to use it.

Episode Interactive Yes I dedicated the last 10 years to improving my reading and writing. I still make many mistakes but spellcheck is my best-friend lol. I was always considered lazy or not trying hard enough in school. I only started excelling and performing when I finished college and it didn’t matter how you spelt something, but it was important if you were making the company you work for money. I’m very good in building and manufacturing custom pieces that run on any types of heavy vehicles. Now I work for the government and build/manufacture/repair public heavy vehicles. Film making is my second job. None of my teachers believed in me, and I was always talk down on because I supposedly wasn’t trying hard enough. I would like to run into them now and let them know the affects of their poor teaching habits. Stay strong friends, it’s only a small bump in the road!

Thank you so much Evan. This is very emotional... My daughter is 10, dyslexic and bilingual (French & English). We discovered her dyslexia after she moved from an English school system to a French school system. She has been struggling for 3 years having to learn French, which I believe is a very difficult language to learn. After being labelled, laughed at by her peers, shouted at by teachers she is now broken and have very dark thaughts. My daughter is very artistic and no one seems to value that at her school. Very tough... We are now in the process of bringing her back to a school system that is more inclusive, tolerant and encouraging for children like her who have special needs.

I've heard that learning Latin or Greek has been proven to be able to change things really quickly to improve dyslexia. Makes me mad at past me for not learning it when i first had theorized as a kid that it would help me. Especially since i was always interested in etymology too.
But i will be finally pushing myself to learn both next year! This upcoming year i also have many goals that i know will help change my brain. I was diagnosed really late in life with ADHD and being on the autism spectrum, though i dont have a proper diagnosis of dyslexia i had another auditory processing issue growing up they felt they'd corrected but i've since seen a decline as i've been out of practice and reverting back to how it was as a kid and its not exclusively an issue with b/d and 9/p anymore but full on mixing of letters and words which i know is dyslexia. I just dont have the time or resources to get a diagnosis but i deeply explained things to friend also neurodivergent and they said that they just got diagnosed and that i explained it to a T.
Lol so.. yeah like the other things i've been diagnosed with i already have put it together, only now i just dont care to have a doctors confirmation and just want to work diligently to improve how my brain works. I believe in our abilities to change! 'i used to always struggle with math, down to telling time on a clock with hands' but i will be conquering my fear of maths this year! As well as learning IT from newb level.
So i wanted to share a bit about my story and the findings i've come into.
I also think learning how to read music might help and am doing that this year along with some modern languages before next years Latin and Greek endeavor. Wish me luck! And i wish you all the best too! I'll let you know how it goes
I'm committing publicly to these things as much as i can right now to push myself to stick with my aspirations to help others see that they can shoot for the stars! I believe in you! Whatever it is you need to do to get to where you want, you got this!!!

I really didn't fully acknowledge I was dyslexia and had challenges until last. year at age 55yrs old and just cried hearing everyone sharing their experience. I have to read things 5x, can't really follow written directions, recipes and can only take in a little info at a time before my brain short circuits. But yes very imaginative, musical and create lots of spontaneous songs.
I teach percussion. I still work extra hard for the business side of doing this.

I am now seventy. At the age of four or five I was locked in the headmistresses office because she thought I was lazy. I was in tears and wanted to go to the loo. At that young age I had to cope and so I peed in her desk draw. My father was livid with her and she was forced to take early retirement . I have always been able to think outside the box. But now I do business deals and not pee in draws.

This was awesome to watch. I wish it had been done when I was a kid because it would have helped me realize that I wasn’t the only one going through it. I’m in my thirties now and in College going for my Bachelor degree in Studio Art. For years I believed the lies other people put in my head, like I was just dumb and that some people are not made for College. As an artist I believe it’s my responsibility to encourage everyone and exploit the truths that people don’t want to see. I do this through art. Everyone! And I mean everyone! Has potential and purpose.

as a dyslexic i can say that yes we keep things simple , often finding the best path straight through that nobody else noticed . I can read fast but do like to take my time and had had teachers note that i comprehend very well . With i little extra work you can learn to read and write at a normal level , some spelling mistakes here and there but reading at normal levels slow down though as i tend to want to skip ahead and not retain information . I have seen non dyslexic people a lot worse than i was ...a lot worse .

Im lucky its quite mild, im very low on the spectrum ,it was worse but was spotted as soon as i started school at 5 and leveled off at mild after a couple of years of doing extra work , flash card etc... I suppose its harder when you are first starting to read . Some teachers forgot i had it and gave me grief about my punctuation and odd spelling mistakes as they knew i was intelligent and thought i was being lazy . To be honest i think some of my teachers didn't event know i was dyslexic. Im 42 now and a few years ago did three years of tec to get my diploma in music production and performance and it was about half way through he first year the tutors noticed something , even with spellcheck its still noticeable and looking back may have been the reasons why i have missed out on promotions to jobs im very capable of doing ...ah well I have leadership skills but have no interest in being in charge , I prefer to work for a living lol.

Evan, your video is very powerful. It is important to show those people who overcome the condition and became successful and now they are inspiring others. However, I believe associate SUCCESS with overcoming any disability something restricted to a small number of people compared with the universe of people who have dyslexia. I prefer and suggest to talk about how to SUCCEED instead. I am telling this because I found out that I have dyslexia seven years ago when I was 42 years old. The reason is that it affects me learning language. English is not my first language and although I live in the UK over 13 years, I am still strugle. I never had communication problem in my mother language. Nowadays, I put aside my dreams, plans to do what I am good (despite I don't like it very much) to built my life with almost 50.... Congratulation!

as a dyslexic entrepreneur i needed to watch this dyslexia is a gift but people label it as a 'learning disability' it shouldn't be labeled like that are brains are wired differently we learn a different way it should be that we are at a disadvantage to learn the way normal people learn not that its a disadvantage i consider dyslexia a gift and this video really touched a nerve with me it really did i think most dyslexics suffer from poor self esteem and we should bring this more to light its tough going through school thinking your stupid i genuinely thought that it made me feel sad i failed in school i worked really hard to be a c student dyslexics in school are at a huge disadvantage its really sad and it messes us up because we feel stupid that we arn't good its reallly damaging for kids and people with dyslexia the school system is rigged against us but ive always felt im more creative than most people and its quite evident from the video dyslexic people have a gift are brains are wired to be more creative than ordinary people we thrive in certain areas its crazy to think :)

When i was at my first school i was hugly disruptive to the point i was told to sit in the corner with my back to the class . i had a circle drawn around the chair etc . i was one of the few children that had to hold the teachers hand when being outside ..i then went once a fortnight to see this man and sometimes a woman who taught me how to break down words so that i could prononce them . i left school with no qualifications . i wouldnt say that my problems have in so many ways gave me succes , which i am glad of because this kind of pursuit causes ruin among many peoples lives .i would say however that i am now creative in lots of ways and like the man said they dont give up ! i have lots of scheer determanation . i finaly would like to add that my dyslexia has to an extent given and still does me lots of interresting expieriences ,and i love being different , and not one of the countless sheep out there .. heehhreehhree..

I found that i was dyslexic when i was like 40. I made in the top 1% in terms of net worth in the US as an immigrant and hold masters degree in engineering but still feel like an illiterate.

I wish we changed or add the laws in America and all around the world so all the adults with dyslexia would get assistive technology help in every day life with reading and writing. We should the future for kids and adults alike.

I don't know if I have dyslexia but if I did,.....add it to the list! These gifts still have to be paid for and they come at a high cost.

My mother was a school teacher and refused to believe that I was dyslexic and had my daddy beat me because I had trouble reading and spelling. She wanted me to be ahead of my older brother when he started school. She is a covert norricest and very smart and publicly image is everything to her and my brother has been destroying me for years now.
