    I play DBFZ with a keyboard, and I'm surprised how easier it is than controller. I hit quarter circles, forward dashes, raw supers, super jumps, crossups, moon jumps, etc. with it a lot more consistently. Only issue I have is using sparking is just not accessible at all.
    For me, who's more a casual and has been used keyboards my entire life, not having to learn controller muscle memory is a blessing.

  • @Zetact_

    I can imagine myself switching to hitbox but I also have huge reservations over how unintuitive and awkward the layout looks. Which would make it a pretty big investment for something I'd just tend up treating as a paper weight. I always find myself thinking, "If I'm going to buy a nice new stick I'll get a Qanba or something."

    • @Proxic0n

      Understandable, there are some cheaper options I would recommend giving a shot first. There's some cheap clones on ebay, junkfood arcades has a decent one in the snackbox, as well as the snack box micro for less than the 200$ of the official hitbox.

  • @NormanTran

    I like my hitbox but I think it's effectiveness really depends on the kind of input forgiveness a game had. Recently with Guilty Gear Strive I've gone with pad because jump, DP and super inputs need to be so precise I feel like I need to piano things on the hitbox and it was distracting from actually playing the game.

    • @southofheck
      @southofheck 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They are so much easier than early games. If you are coming from SFV, I can see that. But I use hitbox in strive and DP inputs are the easiest they’ve ever been for me.
      Whereas in Xrd or +R I accidentally got in the habit of doing quarter circles 2 or 3 times in a row because the inputs dropped so often on Dpad.

  • @Nebellune
    @Nebellune 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Music choice is on point. But besides that, the hitbox seems like a very good idea. But considering a keyboard is very similar and the hitbox is pretty expensive, pad or keyboard seem like all you'll ever need.

    • @Proxic0n
      @Proxic0n  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Keyboard is def a solid option and totally viable. There are some cheaper clones for ~$40, cheaper parts yes but they're on par with fight sticks of the same price imo. I was going to include a buyers guide but didn't as the video I would've needed was copyrighted / property of the manufacturers

    i had tried getting into fighting games in the past, even got andight stick for christmas to get into it. Practiced practiced and practiced and gahhhdam was i having zero fun being barely able to go from dash to black or do that z motion or wuarter circle reliably, it was all just sooooo annoying. Anyway came back a few weeks ago after seeing hitbox and before commiting to getting a whole new controller like i did the fight stick just to drop it, i started off with keyboard so that i can eventually move to hitbox. And holyyy is it do much more fun, i can actually practice moving and combos rather than being like why cant i move from down to up or forward to back in a fluid motion. Its so much better for people that didnt grow up with sticks

    • @naejimba
      @naejimba ปีที่แล้ว

      Stick is like learning a musical instrument: just like you are going to practice for a long time just to get a good sound out of a trumpet you have to practice a long time. On the other hand, it is just as viscerally satisfying to play a stick as a musical instrument and it feels amazing to finally nail it in a way that a hitbox or keyboard just can't match.

      I honestly have had a similar experience. I’ve been playing fighting games on exclusively pad for literally my whole life and recently got a hitbox style controller for the first time. It was like waking up out of the matrix, I swear. Within a few hours every input was more consistent than it had ever been in my life. My hand pain was gone. Then I realized that I’d lived with this nagging feeling of frustration I’ve felt my entire fighting game life that was suddenly just…gone. This probably sounds like exaggeration but it’s totally not.

  • @dylaroo24

    I’m absolutely lost with what fighting controller to buy. I’ve gotten really into guilty gear and tekken 7 (grew up with tekken, just found guilty gear and now love both) so I wanna invest in a fighting controller for guilty gear especially. I can do pretty decently with a controller on tekken and same for guilty gear, but I have a lot of trouble doing circle motions on d-pad. With tekken it’s not really an issue since it doesn’t really have circle motion inputs, but it’s crucial for guilty gear if you want to use your supers. So I figure since I’m having issues with circle motions the most then a stick would be a the way to go. I feel like using a hit box would just make things harder since I have to add more movements for the same input. For half circle it would be a simple left or right motion and roll it to the opposite side, but a 7 button string seems much more complicated. I’m a bit conflicted after watching this video but I still think I’m gonna go with a stick, feels more natural. I got all the time in the world so taking time to develop muscle memory isn’t much of an issue for me. So I think I’ll probably end up getting the Hori Fighting Stick Alpha.

I wonder if I should get a hitbox too, I play tekken and im trying to give keyboard a shot so maybe Ill buy a hitbox someday, but the stick is the classic and idk, I feel like is the best option at the end of the day because its good for everygame and it has something unique... hitbox might be dope but im not sure, what are your thoughts on stick if u had it and would you still like to try hitbox/do you want to buy one someday?

  • @RobSomeone
    @RobSomeone 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I really like my hitbox, but depending on the game, fast back forward inputs could be really poor. So in Tekken, if you input a back forward move with perfect timing and skip the neutral input, then you don't get that move, just the forward input. Makes things like jet upper a lot less consistent if you're trying to be frame perfect.

Because of these two things it is not your best option for old man games.

      Yeah you aren't getting something for nothing. Each input method has their positives and negatives that you're simply exchanging. Everybody's hands/fingers are built differently as well as our brains. No silver bullets and one size does not fit all. Bottom line, play what work best for you.

    The problem of fighting games is, that it needs a lot of time input to get even a small level of satisfaction.

    one thing to note is if you played pad / or stick and want to transition to hitbox, you are going to be significantly worse for a long time.
    you will get it pretty well down in 1month of playing atleast an hr or two a day one you get there tho you will feel like you hit a barrier.
    the last 15/20% of your execution is going to be painful. Well worth the grind if your up to the challenge though..

    i honestly don't understand why so many people play with sticks and pads over keyboard/hit box: in kost fighting games, the movement is actually digital (8 directions), rather than analog, so why not use digital controls? it makes so much more sense

    • @robinisathakur
      @robinisathakur ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s because the games don’t use analog input for directions. Most competitive fighting games have used digital motion since the 8 bit days, and analog directional controllers in home consoles didn’t exist until at least the n64. Therefore using an analog stick will be less accurate. For those of us who grew up in that era (with nearly everything being Japanese games) it makes sense. It never occurred to me that younger people would forget how to do so or not know how to use an arcade joystick setup if they’re into fighting games.

    (I beg you if you play it on PS5 and play pad please find an alternative controller with a better dpad the PS5 controller's dpad is not meant for motion inputs)

    but I switched to hitbox and jesus christ is the game so much easier for me now
    there's so much I can do and I'm so consistent with my inputs it's fuckin crazy
