I have no idea why but that is INDEED the best kbd video. I tried many different ones but could never do it. Watched this video and did it within minutes that it spooked me and then i felt like a complete idiot. Somehow i was able to do it intuitively while watching this video 😅
@PhiDX I'm a Tekken veteran since TTT1 and while this information isn't new to me. I can confidently say that this is one of the best beginner guides I've seen for Tekken. It's very well put together, you've got the gift of not only being a very good player but what not many of the top players have is the gift of being able to explain their train of thought and share knowledge in a clear and concise manner. I also really like that you put a lot of comparative screens next to each other, you also transition one bit of information into the next part in a very fluid manner. With very clear on-screen examples and concise text with highlighting for the stances. Great job man! perhaps Bamco should hire you to do some videos for them in the future :D
as long as you are having fun there is nothing wrong with that! enjoy the game in a way you can. who cares if people get mad at you for mashing ultimately if someone cannot handle mashing it is their problem not yours.
Yeah for real this is a great guide. I know a lot about FGs in general terms but I haven't played a Tekken game since part 3, well before I even knew what frame data is. This video was a huge help in getting the gist of the combat.
Tbh I been playing takken games for years especially takken tag tournament 2 But I haven’t play takken since then it’s good for beginners but in takken 8 the devs really help people for beginners on the controls for me I’m just very rusty in fighting games especially takken but my only complaint is where’s the run button and I already figured out the block button but overall I gonna whoop people’s ass 😂
If I ever become a pro and happens to win a championship, I will relentlessly shout your name with gratitude while holding my trophy up due to the reason that you and your contents is one of the essential things that help me become a better player, thats how grateful I am for you and your passion for this craft, thank you.
I am playing this series since i was a little child in the 90s. I have played and competed in T7 and played the T8 Network Test, Beta and Demo and still learned some new stuff and was reminded to apply some known basics. Thats how amazing your guide is Phi! Thank you very much.
I consider myself an intermediate player but I watched it all, this will be an incredibly useful video to send to newcomers if they're interested in the game. Thanks Phi.
You're definitely rising to the top of Tekken content creation. The videos the past few months have been very intelligent and are by and large a cut above a lot of other Tekken content--and that's saying a lot, given the strength of the content community.
I just started Tekken 8 yesterday after not playing a legit fighting game since Tekken 3. I'll be watching this video at least 20 times before it all completely marinates on my brain.
im new to tekken . I got completely lost by the amount of things i need to learn on tekken. This video really helps me a lot with the fundamentals i need to learn first. Thanks a lot !
Phi, this is genuinely the most comprehensive and visually clear Tekken guide I have ever seen, and will be my go-to from now on when recommending guides to friends. Thank you for taking the time to make it, and absolutely awesome work!
As someone who watched both Sajam Slams and immediately bought Tekken 8 on a sale, this is a video I needed. Made it to Dominator so far on my own, but having a video I can come back to as a reminder for techniques I DEFINITELY do not have down yet and so much more is excellent. Super glad to see pros like PhiDX in the space eager to help so many new players get into Tekken!
Not just the best tekken tutorial, but one of the best tutorials I’ve seen in a VERY long time period. great work, you fr earned the sub keep it up bro
This vide was eye opening for me. I plan on competing form my college's tekken 8 team and im still quite new. I noticed that since the only experience i have when it comes to fighting games is button mashing from when I was a kid playing games, I want to make sure that I REALLY learn everything there is to know when it comes to fundamentals. if somehow you happen to see this I was just wanna say that I do appreciate you for making a video like this. I’ve watched more than two dozen Tekken guides at this point and this is the only one I thought of bookmarking. This is amazing! Will watch it many times over. Thank you!
You are doing God's work with this video and will help out a ton of the newcomers. Tekken is seen as a difficult game to get into and videos like this will ease in the new players. Great video and amazing production quality!! 👏
Super grateful for this guide not only as an intermediate player but also to show all my friends just getting into tekken for the first time. Thank you for all of the hard work you put into this and your channel! ❤
I only played SF5 and SF6 and never played a Tekken game before. A few things are similar, but for example the stances is absolutely new. Really, really great video! Must "beginner" videos expect to much knowledge to begin with. I keep coming back to your channel! Great job!
your guide videos are always so easy to follow n understand. hoping someday to see characters optimal demonstration type videos too ( like you did with tekken 7 jin & steve) 🙏
I've been playing Street Fighter for forever, so I've seen my share of basics guides to games. I have always wanted to get more into Tekken because I tend to like 3D games, but it just never clicked. I have been enjoying Tekken 8 and found this guide. This is the best fighting game guide I have ever seen anywhere, and it's not close. Really clear and well produced. The work paid off on this one. Thanks!

Insanely good beginner's guide to this game in only just 30+ minutes you have really outdone yourself with this one, hope to see more excellent guides like this 👍
I've seen many guides for beginners around, never saw one this concise and helpful, right from the get-go. This should be seen by everyone getting into Tekken. Props, dude, great work and thanks a lot, it's gonna be helpful for sure I've learned so much already and it makes me wanna grind the game even more.
As someone knew to the Tekken franchise, thank you so much for this! Especially the how to get up section, I've seen a lot of tournament play so I've seen the options but had no idea how it actually worked.
I’m not gonna lie as a beginner a would pay for this guide, absolutely fantastic guide no music in the background, explaining everything for us slowly and calmly, showing to us everything we need to see with no complications at all .. thank you so much man this is my first tekken ever i've been playing for three weeks now i managed to reach shinryu rank by taughting my self and learning the game but i came to conclusion that i still have to learn a lot of things about this game to be a decent player.
This is the best video on a fighting game I’ve seen. I haven’t played since Tekken 3 so I’m basically new and now I feel like I have an understanding of what I need to learn.
I come from the days of arcade machines and just mashing buttons and figuring things out one quarter at a time. Tekken 8 is really the first fighter I've started since then. Well done explaining all of this. Lots to learn and explain, articulated and very easy to follow. Cheers.
33 year old tekken vet (since 97) Never thought I’d need to learn the fundamentals of this game an as intermediate level player. This is just the guide I needed. Thank you sir!
That comment about button buffering explains why I am able to do some things I thought I wasn't executing correctly (Feng df 4,2,1+2) and also why I sometimes don't correctly get what I'm trying to do. It's really helpful to understand and I haven't heard that anywhere else! Excellent tip, thank you.
As a beginner that understand sort of the very basic stuff this video really helped me understand what I'm needing to learn next and what I should start prioritizing. I just can't seem to get any better and feel like I'm constantly mashing buttons if I'm not randomly hitting either of my launchers that I know my combos for, but this gives me some more tools and hope the I can really start to understand whats going on. Also that outtro goes hard for no reason LOL
I have played fighting games for a long time now and have seen many beginner tutorials and your guide is now the new golden standard!! I am very new to Tekken but I played a lot of Soul Calibur so I'm looking forward to hopping in using this tutorial to guide me to better play along with the friend that has been playing Tekken for a while (who was kind enough to share this video with me!) Keep doing what you're doing! I couldn't thank you enough for making such an amazing guide!
Dude, you're a very good teacher. I'm a retired player, i clicked this video just to keep myself up-to-date, and i must say, you did an awesome job explaining everything in this video. I hope you'll continue to prosper. Thank you!
Crazy I just hit Shinryu and I’m revisiting this guide because I forgot certain fundamentals. This truly is excellent and I think everyone should look at this no matter how experienced they think they are in Tekken
I've been playing fighting games for as long as they've existed. This is one of the best beginner tutorials I've ever seen for a fighting game. Great shit, Phi. Keep it up.
I've watched multiple guides to find unique tips for beginners, and yours is certainly the one with the most useful recommendations and production quality.
This starts off as a guide for absolute beginners but moves into topics that can shape up a competent novice and even brushes into some intermediate concepts. Definitely gonna share this around with some friends to see if I can hook them! I also love the cadence and clarity of your explanations and even your overall speech and presentation. Great work!
Mighty Ruler player here, honestly learned a lot from this video. Trying my best to learn from the ground up again and solidify my fundamentals to advance past purple, and this video really helped!
I had to come see if you had any primer videos after watching all your coaching videos with other content creators recently, and I'm glad I took a peek! I consider myself someone who enjoys Tekken offline but never really dove into playing online matches or even pubs for fun because I didn't think I was good enough or had enough deep knowledge/memory. This gave me a lot of confidence to go in and give it another try as Tekken 8 legit looks like a lot of fun again (since Tekken Tag 2, personally) for everyone, even casuals.
As someone who has never played a Tekken before(or just doesnt remember when I played it last), this guide really helps. There's a lot to understand in this game, so it'll definitely take a little while to grasp a lot of the mechanics, but this is a great tool to help make it easier!
thank you for the guide. brand new to tekken (and pretty new to fighting games after learning strive) and this was a fantastic video for me! I really appreciate this.
Brother, you're the goat. Great teacher. I'm watching this after playing for some time and getting comfortable with the game, which lead to some questions, and I found everything here. Thank you.
I used to play tekken like 3 years ago and I've forgotten everything about the game. This video explains everything about the game in concise digestible bites. And I really appreciate the effort it took to make. I already liked and subscribed. Keep up the good work 😁.
Thanks a lot for the guide! Tekken 8 is my first Tekken game (I haven't played fighting games properly since, like, SNES), and it's quite intimidating for a newbie (the "special", simplified control style doesn't sound like my thing). Got hooked on the visuals and the dynamic gameplay, but it has so much going on under the hood that it's rather overwhelming. Good thing players like you are out there to help out!
I have been a casual tekken player since Tekken 3 but I really want to improve with combo’s etc. This video has been very helpful. One of the best videos/guides out there to start with your Tekken journey!!
I’m making my girlfriend sit through this video lol she wants to learn tekken to play with me but she’s seen the amount of time I’ve put into the game to get to where I’m at skill wise and it’s really daunting to her lol all I can tell her is she just has to put the time in and practice and she’ll get better in time. This will break it down into smaller pieces she can take a little at a time and really explains everything she needs to know that I couldn’t explain. Awesome stuff you’re a true hero phidx! Also I’m sorry for commenting on old videos I’ve been on a tangent recently watching your content all over the place lol
Man thank you for this! I’m not a complete beginner but it’s been a looong time since I seriously practiced T7, so a refresher is much appreciated! Plus learning about all the new systems and changes
After many attempts with other fighting game throughout the years,Tekken 8 finally catch me and im willing to put the hours , thankful for an amazing video to smooth the way
Street Fighter main here trying to get into Tekken seriously for the first time! This was super helpful and informational! THe only thing I understood walking into Tekken was frame data because of other fighters. Nice video!
This was great bro! Last time I played was on PSP 10 years ago and you made everything easy to understand while also explaining the terms I saw in other guide videos that didnt mean anything to me at the tim. Thanks!
Thank you so much for all the amazing guides you're putting out, they help a ton! I've been watching a lot of them lately to learn the game and i'm finally getting the hang of being patient and blocking my opponents.
I used to play tekken 3 and 5 back in the days when I was small, always played only for fun with friends, now coming back to tekken and trying to be good felt really overwhelming as a newcomer. This video explained pretty much everything I was confused about.Great work and thank you!

I used to play tekken like 3 years ago and I've forgotten everything about the game.
This video explains everything about the game in concise digestible bites. And I really appreciate the effort it took to make.
I already liked and subscribed. Keep up the good work 😁.
Insane quality, been finding it hard to find a good starting point to learn the game but this video is such a blessing
Longtime 2D FGC convert to Tekken 8 here and this was extremely well-presented and very helpful. Thanks a bunch!
This really helps me a lot as someone who has always wanted to get into tekken but never did due to how difficult it felt. Thank you
Spoke with you at your sick run at CEO last year, I'm telling all the homies trying to get into Tekken to check you out. Keep it up Phi 🙌
13:33 the slow-mo Victor cry hahahaha
again another great video. loved the guide, good refresher before getting back into it!
I have been a casual tekken player since Tekken 3 but I really want to improve with combo’s etc. This video has been very helpful. One of the best videos/guides out there to start with your Tekken journey!!
Thanks for the guide, especially that bit at the end about what's the most important to learn with your selected character!
Ok, This isn't just a Tekken 8 Complete Beginner Guide, it's also a Fight Games Foundational Guide. Amazing video, simply MARVELLOOUSSS!
Nice video!
I just wanna thank you for granting people access to tekken without making it sound too complicated. I really appreciate your effort
