- For today's video we will be taking a quick, concise Cole's Notes kind of look at the story of the death and reign of Superman characters from the hit DC Comics story arc The Reign of Supermen, followed by an action figure/ Custom kitbash show and tell style review. Hope you enjoy the video!

The Steel figure was my first DC Superheroes purchase. I always liked that character, and thought he looked great. I didn't even realize he had all the articulation that he had until I got him out of the package. So he's the reason I have several boxes of DCSH and DCUC figures now.
I also agree that superboy had a fantastic execution and is a standout figure from the toyline.
Reign of The Supermen was really where the best of the entire story was.
I also read the novel which was excellent.
La douleur exquise I’ve read the Death and Return of Superman twice. Loved it. Still have yet to read the Novel Superman Death and Beyond.
Loved the Novel. There were two novelisations, one of which I read in my teen years and the other I still need to get ahold of.

I was too 12 years old I was shocked about why they kill my favourite hero I believe there were riots too
I remenber returning from school and watching in the news that Superman was dead.
I was a little girl back them and was very affraid... Also, the art of the battle in metropolis was gruesome.
Yeah I remember the whole issue just being completely mind blowing to my 12 year old brain. I’ll never forget how I felt that day as long as I live.
I remember being 10 yrs old coming downstairs getting ready for school my uncle says ."supermans dead" he turned on goood morning america i was stunned @ 10 this was back in 93
I remember each superman had a different special variant cover. I had all 4 to bad I had brothers.

Yep. Pretty excited about it. Just watched the DoS and, although it departs from the original story, it was a pretty big undertaking to mash so much comic continuity and timelines together to try and tell a comprehensible tale. I've got a review in mind for it because it was so fun. i'll definitely be diving into RoS face first when it comes out.
Loved this. You should have also thrown in Regen Superman and Mullet Superman as a bonus feature

Its cool how this video is so relevant as some of these characters are currently being featured in Superman Rebirth titles but you know that already as you have reviewed 2 of the books ie Action Comics #779 & 780

+Cee-Note12 I'm just happy that they have been bringing back some of the more solid things of the Superman mythos. I hope Eradicator and Cyborg Superman can become a more regular part of the DC Universe again.

I read that comic, I was sad. I still have the black bag they came in.
I loved the death and return of superman and I was a die hard comicbook collector back then and I remember seeing the lines at the comic shops . It took me a few days but I got my death of superman comic ...black bag and news stand ...and I still have the entire run from John Byrne issue # 1 through the death of superman. And you are right about my favorite stand in superman the cyborg superman figure is almost impossible to find and you have be willing to sell your soul for one. It's one of those jems I still done have.
I dont know much about the reign of supermen but I feel like eradicator is the strongest and the most threat, I mean somehow his Cape feels more super than the other supermen

I really wished they made this into a movie after BvS. Instead we got that cheap Avengers clone Justice League movie. The timeline could've fit more perfectly and DCEU would still be thriving.
This story line was what got me collecting. Have allthe DC Direct figures still MOC. Cyborg for whatever reason shot up in price pretty quick. Strange first appearance of Doomsday comic isn't worth much considering he is well known now.
I spent my entire allowance for months just buying every issue of Reign of Supermen after tracking down the fight and funeral. I loved them so much. Then I gave away to a high school student in 2000 so that he could read the whole thing. I’ve missed them ever since. Sure the collected versions are nice but having all of those single issues was so awesome. Happily I’ve recently picked up the entire run from just before the fight with Doomsday until a few issues after his return. Pretty stoked to re-add these to my collection. I couldn’t afford the Return series when it came out so I’ve been playing catch up on it. Have the Recovery suit. Had Eradicator. Have Steel. Cyborg Superman is a grail for me though.

DC Direct had great details, but DCU were much more possible and fun.

I think there's two Steel figures. One that's more chrome looking and one that's just grey. I believe I have both variants. One for my JL display and one in my Superman display. I'm also from Canada, btw. :)

Lol, yeah, and so did a zillion other people and DC knew it so they just kept shoveling out reprints to meet the demand. I think it had 4 printings. Lol.

I just got the Superboy, I had to get him after they finally brought him back in Young Justice. Buuuutt...i like the black t-shirt Superboy a "little" more than this jacketed version. But still a Super Solid figure.
Comic version of this uses pre-new52 canon while cartoon version of this uses new52 canon

I got all the dc direct reign of the supermen figures. Are these mattels actually better
Carlos Andrade I like them more than the DC Direct ones, at least the Steel and Superboy figures. The Cyborg Superman by DCD can’t be beat though. I prefer the DCUC Eradicator with the DCD head swapped into it. My tastes aside, the DCD figures are still really really awesome.
I just ordered all of the DC Direct versions of all of these characters, which I feel are more comic accurate, albeit less articulated. But my intention is to use those more for display. I also made a custom mullet DC Direct Superman using the Regenration Suit head and swapping it onto a darker blue Reactivated repaint version I have from a box set.
But yes, I collected all of the DCUC versions because I tend to go for articulation above all else. I never understood why Mattel was so resistant to putting the S symbol on many of the capes, which annoy the heck out of me. At least they put it on Superboy, although it's not comic accurate as that one had a stitched on patch look. I don't think they were able to neglect the S since it's a major part of that character's look.

The latest version of superboy is way cooler than the old one
I hate whenever they leave off the cape "S". It seems to be Superman's version of Batman's oval symbol. Also, the chest symbol on the Cyborg is painted wrong.
Gotta admit, using custom parts/work on a review/comparison video is kind of cheating. No offence, though - still love your vids, Brad!

The second version of Superboy is the one who finds out he's half lex Luther, that's the one who wears a t-shirt and jeans for a costume and has zero personality, he is the version of Superboy that joined teen Titans.

At first he though that the human strands of his DNA that they at CADMUS labs needed to have for the purpose of attaching Superboy’s Kryptonian DNA to was from Paul Westfield. It was later revealed to have been from Lex Luthor all along. I don’t recall there being any other versions of the pre-New52 Superboy.

Your Superboy origin is wrong the Superman/lex luthor duel clone thing was retcon by Geoff Johns in Teen Titans in 2004 eleven years after this story was published.

These figures are AWFUL!!!! What the hell, why weren't these figures made in the DC Icons line? I swear, I HATE MATTEL!!! They ALWAYS go cheap on the design. The Icons line should've done these figures instead.....
Steel is one of the best figures out of the entire DC Universe Classics/Super Heroes line. The color scheme is not comic accurate which is an obvious deliberate choice but beside that he looks badass.
And the Superboy figure is one of the other best figures out of the line. The jacket is well done and his size is accurate. I only wish the S on his jacket was completely solid yellow. Other than that he is perfect.

Death of Superman is overrated . Americans mistake their nationalism for the character as good stories eventhough they're bland asf. The ultimate highlight of this story's failure is that Superman died and no one felt anything.
I don't like superman he is stupid bland and boring and is one of the worst characters in fiction in my opinion but I really love his various villains and other characters in his mythos such as these presented in the video good job mate!
