I desperately want a modern reboot of the series. So much so that I could write out whole concept documents for 5 entire games: - A prequel (thinking of naming it "[PROTOTYPE] - Patient 0") where you play Elizabeth Greene and go through the events of Hope, Idaho (somewhat rewritten to work as a game). A bit more "Resident Evil"-y at first and her power set focuses more and more on using the infected to her advantage as you uncover the plot. - An updated and slightly rebalanced [PROTOTYPE]. My only real change from overall polish would be to make the blunt/bladed weapons deal more damage against armor/flesh respectively and make it a bit more punishing to use the slower weapons, to keep the rest of them relevant once you get the blade arm (and make muscle arms relevant at all). - An overhauled [PROTOTYPE2], cleaning up the narrative consistency. A degree of explanation of how Mercer became that way and smoothen out Heller's arc, while making him more than just "a different guy with Alex' powers". Possibly some interaction between powers and weapons because of his military background. - An entirely new entry as [PROTOTYPE3] where Heller goes after Greene's son Pariah (who was teased in canon as the perfect being), but ends up having both Elizabeth and Alex "unfused" from him by Pariah's powers, so he can finally be with his mother. Retcon in that Mercer's descend into his persona from [P2] was due to absorbing Greene, her thought patterns pushing his subconscious to go that far. Him and Heller then team up to prevent Pariah (spurred on by Greene) from wiping out humanity. - And finally, an action MMO where your "equipment" is gene sequences that you can combine into all kinds of mutations - from an enhanced specialist all the way to a multi-armed monstrosity of teeth and claws that breaths acid clouds. It would be set in a New York thriving with mutated life of all kinds and controlled by an over-mind left in charge to rally its denizens (= the players) against the constant incursions by the military.
its such a shame my parents didnt like mature game when i was growing up. they didnt really let me play anything so i missed out on a lot of classics like this. always wanted to play it just never had the chance to :/
Wish they made more games like this even tho Prototype's story was straight garbage compared to something like Infamous, Prototype was just genuinely really fun to play and I think that's what people loved about it, it's just something about being fucking OP and having free rain to fuck up a city with no consequences yk.
I just started playing this again for the first time in 10 years, and unfortunately, the controls didn't age that well, which makes an already difficult game very difficult to play by today's standards. However, this game is still fun and the concept still holds up and definitely deserves a proper Remaster.

Im sad that there's only 2 games. But at the same time I'm glad that there's only 2 games, since this series would've gone downhill in terms of quality, story, etc if the devs or company kept crapping then out
Y'all sure the only reason P2 is bad to some folks isnt because the story was more focused on a African American dude?
I was worried that it was just childhood nostalgia that makes me remember Prototype in good light and that it wasn't actually good, so I'm glad to see people still enjoying it more than a decade later
I freaking love you man, playing all my childhood games
I think there are a little bit too many of us who played an 18+ game like this one when we were teens. Other people be like: "I caught cool and goofy looking monsters with a plastic ball and'd let them fight for me in tournaments." We be like: "Ähem yeah so that one time i bombed the Central Park into nonexistance with a tank i stole from a military outpost after eating and mutilating every solider stationed there....."
Both one and two were just a ton of fun, angsty to eleven but still, nothing like it at the time. Reminded me a lot of that Hulk intimate destruction I think it was, just pure power fantasy. Edit: ultimate. Ultimate distruction lolol. Intimate distruction sounds like that one gif... Lol
Same devs that made prototype made the hulk game.
@@thebiggestpanda1 oh well there ya go! Well done didn't know that, cheers!
I would still argue that there's nothing really like it still.
No idea what gif you’re referring to
hulk could intimately destroy anything he wants if we talkin facts
When I was younger I always found that in the harder difficulties there’s a massive difficulty curve near the end, especially the final boss. I remember it talking me like a whole day to beat, although I was like 11
OKAY! The fact that you tossed somebody a far distance off a skyscraper and can still find their body and it doesn't disappear despite all the NPCs on screen is mind-blowing to me I mean it still disappears when it reaches the draw distance limit, but you can still find it.
prototype and prototype 2 were my all time favorite games growing up loved them both so much was so sad to hear they weren't continuing the series.
One of my all time favorite games from one of my all time favorite TH-camrs! Thank you so much for the content!
Can't believe my dad allowed me to play this.
14:47 "After being bitten by some radioactive scientist, I've become something of a scientist myself."
Kev, 2022
"Why didn't I just use that the whole time?" Yeah you'd almost think the different mutations were made so you could have different approaches to different types of enemies, like the tutorial straight up told you with the hammerfists on the tanks and all that.
well besidise the fact that blade arm is literally usefull against EVERYTHING minus range
No just barehanded punch the thing to explosion
Yeah the guy plays like he'd skip every tutorial and then doesnt understand why he finds it hard
@@noobguy9973 I don't know man, looks to me like Cross hyperarmored through it and kept attacking. I played the hell out of this game as a teen and the claws are the best overall, but this game was made in a time where different powers were actually made to be useful
@@demyx0067 ohh no Cross played like absolute shit no doubt about that. All ım saying is that blades (and whip for range) in my opinion are the only arms power you need because it has good range , potential for AOE and it even cut through tanks and armor while no enemies having strengths and counters to it (from what ı remember) unlike in Prototype 2.
This game & the second one are quite possibly the most powerful I've ever felt in a game wish they'd remake these
the rag-dolls that happen when you pick someone up and start running around makes me crack up every time
Prototype is one of my all time favourite sandbox games , rly sad we never got a third sequel
Imagine a prototype 1 remake
I love how absolutely everybody who plays this game, upon learning that you can carry people around, immediately goes straight for the tallest building to throw them off. Best species 10/10.
What I really like about Prototype is the feeling that you're this unstoppable force that eats and kills everything, it kinda makes you feel you're powerful and yet the missions balances it out by giving out interesting and hard challenges, yes you're powerful but one wrong move and it could be your last
Kevduit - “I think this is rated E”
10:25 😂 just that line alone isn’t something you think about when your playing a mutant creature
Totally me as a superhero.
The villain: Who are you?
Me: "I'm the sav- I'm the city- I'm the hero that- that- that- the hero needs... The city needs."
You just unlocked many fond memories for me thank you.
It's good to see you enjoying the gem that is this game. Wait till you get the thermo tank, you'll love that
Imagine you’re just walking and Mercer just grabs your face and brings you up to countless buildings to be thrown. This video gave me unnecessary trauma.😭
The way Jerry screams no when Kevduit tells him to fly was absolutely hilarious. Just priceless.
Prototype had one of the coolest powers in all of gaming
When I was younger I was watching my uncle play this game. I walked into the living room because I heard him laughing hysterically for at least 5 minutes before I walked in just to see what was so funny. He was just picking up civilians and charging up his throw just to throw them into the side of a building…
I'm sure at least 60% of anyone that played Protoype did that for hours.
On an unrelated note I’m glad the So I FINALLY Tried series has grown this far and seeing Kev doing other things other than F76 and doing some variety. I subbed for the F76 content mainly way back but i remember jumping onto one of Kev’s livestreams and him being unsure and doubtful if doing other content is something he could do but regardless I believed he would still do good with youtube if he did and seeing you gone this far Kev I’m glad you went with it.
Kevduit: the guy the hero needs
Clever
Love seeing all of these older games played again, loved this game when it came out. It hurts to see these graphics now when I used to think these were the best.
Shield power + running through a crowd = the best fun a guy could ever have.
I played Prototype 2 with my cousin a lot when it came out, and one of the funniest memories I have is singing "I wear your grandpa's skin" un the tune of thrift shop by macklemore.
I still remember the rivalry Prototype fans and infamous fans had when both originals came out
Gary, Jerry, Larry and Perry/Barry. The heroes we need but don't deserve.
3:53 Very apt Naruto comment when that VA is Sasuke's English dub VA pretty sure lol
Yep its Yuri Lowenthal
8:55 bro just drop kicked an assault chopper😂💪🏽
I love this power fantasy of a game and i’m glad that you one of my favorite youtubers is playing it.
"I was bit by a radioactive scientist..." - Kevduit
Remember the hulk game made by same company? It was so fun!!
I just really like your content. A mix of games I grew up on and games that I forgot how much I wanted to play.
Shifting into the armor form and just running around the city plowing through people was one of the most fun things to do in this game.
"Hey, you wanna be a fuckin psycho and kill everyone?" The game
Grabbing a random civilian and tossing them off the top of the tallest building you can find. I miss this game 😂
Man he went straight into the super villain role.
I like how your saying cmon zombies while punching random civillians to death
The amount of hours I just spend running, jumping, flying then super hero landing is ungodly haha
The intro level was some of the funnest shit I had the experience of playing. I still remember it to this day how fucking fun it was.
This franchise NEEDS TO COME BACK!!
I remember every day after school me & my friends used to go play this at the arcade because we didn't have our own consoles
game like this nowadays would be so controversial
5:51 Funnily enough, there was apparently a cancelled Spiderman 4 game that was being developed by the same team. The work-in-progress stuff literally shows Spiderman having almost the same traversal skills (plus web-slinging) as in this game.
You should definitely give prototype 2 a try it was also good it a damn shame this series stopped with the second one
A lot of that was due to executive meddling. The gameplay is damn good but the story is an atrocity.
the second one was way worse.
I loved the second more than the first 👍 both extreamly fun games
Making Alex Mercer the bad guy was a big turn off for me and I didn't even play 30 mins of the second game.
@@thewanderingartists The biggest problem is that it was poorly explained even in the companion comic, and the story was poorly handled portraying Mercer as a cartoon villain.
Wait till he learns about the Pasty ability...and then the level up version of it....so many fond memories of doing that.
My favorite part of these throwback videos are the competitor lineup for the year it was released. Very nostalgic
Infamous and prototype in summer 2009... good old times
prototype was the game we did not know we needed as teens lol. still played this at 23 just to replay it.
Finally, your playing my favorite game that I have never played before and who’s only context for the gameplay and story is hitless boss fight videos! Thanks!
I remember being sad I wouldn't be able to play Infamous. Then I got prototype and I forgot about infamous
If you liked this you should play Spiderman Web of Shadows, one word, Symbiot Black Cat. So good it counts as one word... Aparently
I fuckin LOVE. “Prototype 2”. Goddamn, it’s what I’ve been looking for in a Game. Reminds me as a VERY Violent “Hulk Ultimate Destruction”.
This game and The Darkness were the first games I had when I got my first ps3 and I still play it sometimes, Prototype is so amazing and fck Activision for killing it, this Franchise had such an huge potential
Theres no way you haven't played this game before... I played this on the 360 back in the days
One of my all time favorites and is in need of a reboot or sequel.
I never thought I would hear the words "catheter whip" in my life
you should definitely make a part two and play prototype 2
Prototype 1 is the only one I count as canon and damn it's good.
Second, and I can’t believe your just playing this now….it was sooo good
they need to remaster this. It was such a fun game. Infamous was a bit less violent, but this was just off the chain brutalism. Like you had to be careful not to harm civilians
Ah yes, beautiful nostalgia.
Personally prefer Prototype 2. The progression and upgrading system was better
I thought I liked 2 but idk why, but Heller just felt slower than Mercer and it killed my vibe. Seriously don’t know why it bothered me so much but it did.
@BonzerMrT To me, Mercer felt clunky and the controls were really weird when it came to air gliding. Heller on the other hand, was much more fluid with a better movement system.
@@BonzerMrT he is slower than alex they also removed the parkour move for heller so that might also be contributing to what is bothering you with his movement
Everything was better in prototype 2
Except the combat and variety of it
All of the powers just have 3 fucking attacks
The thing i love about prototype 1 the most is how you could unlock all these nearly useless combos and pointless attacks and just play around with them
Liked 2 but it was a step back especially without the day night cycle
in the original pc release there was women walking strollers around and you could pick them up and throw them and the stroller would fall off after like 30 feet while the baby inside would launch into the sky
I played on PC only and can confirm there is no such thing in the game.
I personally believe this man has more fun with any game than we will ever have
This is my all time favorite game man, playing this for the first time as an 11 year old I fell in love with it
this game should have a part 3
From my memory the stealth consuming is in the menu when you press F and then E to consume, you also can only stealth consume when you're not in direct sight. I have both games the P and P2 but haven't played them in a while. Great games and it's sad we didn't got the 3rd one.
I desperately want a modern reboot of the series. So much so that I could write out whole concept documents for 5 entire games:
- A prequel (thinking of naming it "[PROTOTYPE] - Patient 0") where you play Elizabeth Greene and go through the events of Hope, Idaho (somewhat rewritten to work as a game).
I was too busy playing Infamous when Prototype came out. When I found it, I was obsessed. Biggest power trip ever
Jesus Christ what a masterpiece of a game
Still want a remake of this game!
Imagine the brutality and gore in the generation!!
Damn I love this game
its such a shame my parents didnt like mature game when i was growing up. they didnt really let me play anything so i missed out on a lot of classics like this. always wanted to play it just never had the chance to :/
There’s a remaster of this and the second one called the biohazard bundle.
There is no boss in prototype. The boss is you and you're a raid boss
Wish they made more games like this even tho Prototype's story was straight garbage compared to something like Infamous, Prototype was just genuinely really fun to play and I think that's what people loved about it, it's just something about being fucking OP and having free rain to fuck up a city with no consequences yk.
Two of my most favorite lines from now on.
A world of opportunity!
Who could've done this?!
6:35 *sigh* dammit Jerry...
I just started playing this again for the first time in 10 years, and unfortunately, the controls didn't age that well, which makes an already difficult game very difficult to play by today's standards. However, this game is still fun and the concept still holds up and definitely deserves a proper Remaster.
I miss this so much... Welp time to do i donno maybe 69th playthrough... I wish they made more THIS deserved more
