When Reggie worked for Pizza Hut, he was responsible for bringing the PlayStation Demo discs into promotion with pizzas and a huge reason a lot of people got exposed to the great games of that generation. Then he came to Nintendo and we all know how he did there. Just saying that Reggie was not only a huge personality but truly was a gamer and had gamers at the heart of his thinking as President of Nintendo America.
He also created the Bigfoot Pizza.
Reggie should pop into E3 every now and then. Just because.

Such a defining moment for a generation of gamers that had grown up with Nintendo. I remember that E3 like it was just yesterday. How could 15 years have flown by so fast? It breaks the heart. Reggie was beloved by us Nintendo faithful, because he was one of us. He brought so much joy and energy and life to his role that he became a cultural phenomenon. He was immortalized in memes, Hot Topic sold shirts with his face on them and he was a constant presence on our computer, tablet and cell phone screens anytime there was any exciting or wondrous or magical news from Nintendo.
He will be missed. Almost like a family member is going away.
I remember meeting Reggie when I was a GameStop store manager in the early 2000s. They sent all of the Game Stop managers to our annual conference and after sitting through all of the presentations by the various video game companies throughout the course of the day, there was an end of day event where they had a bunch of games on display for us to try out, and they were serving drinks and things like that. I went down to check it out for a few minutes but decided not to stay too long because the next days conferences were going to start early and sleep was a precious thing. I stepped into the elevator on the way back up to my room, and as the doors began to close, Reggie, with two assistants came walking toward the elevator. I held the door for them of course. I could not believe it. I desperately looked around for something, anything to have him sign. All I had with me was my conference name badge, so I asked one of his assistants if I could borrow their pen, and after expressing to Reggie how big of a fan of his I was, I asked him if he would be so kind as to sign it. Graciously he said of course, smiling he signed my badge and thanked me for being a faithful Nintendo fan. That was one of the coolest moments of my life. (Later I would run into Charles Martinet, the voice of Mario. He signed my badge on the other side.) I still have that badge in a place of honor, in my game room. It will always bring back wonderful memories. Memories of a great run for Nintendo. Thank you Reggie for everything you've done for us fans. I hope you have a great retirement. God bless you!

Our bodies may have not been ready but he deserves it for all he's done for Nintendo. Plus he would work about 80 hours a week and thats crazy. We will miss you Reggie
He could've easily jumped ship when Nintendo was suffering with the Wii U, but he instead stuck out the hard times and is retiring while Nintendo is on a high note. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it feels like he wanted to stick around and try to help right the ship instead of jumping the ship when things were bad.
Thats a good point, I remember seeing on reddit today that the WiiU is his favorite system too. He was a hard working man as well, I was looking at his past jobs and what he did and its pretty impressive

People try to perpetuate the console war ad infinitum... but honestly, who could have possibly captured our heart more than Nintendo? One can be loyal to whomever they wish, prefer whoever they wish, but Nintendo was always the one that touched us more personally than Sony, Microsoft,... or even Sega (though they came the closest for a while)
Sony had some nice videos with that 'Sony Employee' that kept playing games instead of doing his job though, pretty sure they went with such vids before Ninty did simular things.
Have to agree in general though, except Ninty pricing remakes at full price: Sony handles remakes way better!
Was kinda looking forward to Zelda: Link's Awakening and some other remakes, but being full price is imo miliking the fanbase! Wii-U ports kinda made sense, since if you already owned it, there wsn't much of an appeal to get new version.. esp at full price. But Links Awakening (GB game) and FF X+x2 for full price, while first is a GB game and

He sort of became a Stan lee or miyamoto like figure. Maybe he’s just a figure head, but he was good as that face for Nintendo. I’m happy he’s able to leave on a high note, with Nintendo in safe hands

It kinda sucks that after iwata passed and Reggie left it seems like all the fun got sucked outta the air. Now they are just a company that makes a console... Yes they are successful again but just look at the switches interface blan and there's no eShop music... That was like my favorite part one of the reasons why I would go back to it. It's all very desaturated for lack of a better description. Most of the games are ports and even though they have all these games on the switch, it doesn't feel like it. So it just kinda sucks.
At least new Zelda and Mario titles are the best they've been yet.

I worked at Nintendo NYC during the Wii launch. Reggie came in one day, unbeknownst to me.
It was a slow morning, I was stationed at one of the 3 main Wii stations on the main floor, by the entrance/windows and our job when it was slow was to play the games, make it look fun (it was!) to draw the crowd in. So I'm standing there, playing Wii Sports baseball and a feel a hand on my shoulder and the words "can I play?"
There he was. Tall, dark and handsome. My jaw dropped. I hand him the wiimote, he goes on to knock a home run, one handed, on his first attempt. Smiled and walked away.
I had him sign my body cast.

@@AshikSorel1 it really was, mostly because I just didn't expect it. I'd known about the store before applying for the job but I didn't know the man himself would be there. After that I hoped I'd stick around long to maybe meet shiggy at some event, but unfortunately it was a seasonal position so I was only there about 3 months.

The reaction to this shows the difference between Nintendo and other corporations. No one would bat an eye if the CEO of Pepsi or Wal-Mart or Exxon or Purdue retired or even kicked the bucket. Suits like Reggie and Iwata could have worked in any industry, but they chose this one because they were gamers at heart, and that's the thread between us and them that made it what he called a community. This is so relatable. And what I mean by that is that both of my two favourite teachers retired. I was crying so bad when they retired. We gathered in the gym and we gave flowers to the teachers who were retiring and I was crying. Everybody hugged the teachers and said goodbye. Those teachers were so kind to me and every student at school and has helped a lot of students with they’re work at school. I will miss those two teachers...So I can relate to this.

I listened to this on the way to work. When I got there I looked at my phone to see Reggie fighting Iwata, and it hit home. Two people that inadvertently helped shape my life are going to be gone soon. Gone, but never forgotten.
eventhough I don‘t have that much experience with Nintendo, the moment you thanked him just made me tear up a little.
He was always such a genuinely nice guy, and i‘d like to thank him for that as well.
He will never be forgotten.
My body wasn't ready for this, but hey, Reggie's got a life, so yea, we'll let him move on, and let his memes live on

I saw the title I legit thought he died and felt very sad and Arlo crying in the beginning did not help. But when he said that he was retiring I felt so relieved. Sad, but relieved

This video really says everything I'm feeling about Reggie's retirement. He was such a fun face for one of the only companies I really care about, and I'm going to miss the fun, lighthearted, cheerful spirit he brought to the brand. He leaves a great legacy and I'll never forget some of the great moments he brought to us.
