With the new 2025 Honda Civic hybrid hitting this summer, does it have an edge against the competition from #toyota and #hyundai ?
Refreshed 2025 Civic builds on award-winning 11th-generation model with more aggressive front fascia and grille, revised taillights and four new exterior colors
New Civic hybrid - available as a sedan or hatchback - delivers an anticipated 232 lb.-ft.5 of torque, making it the most powerful non-Type R Civic ever
New range-topping Sport Touring Hybrid trim features Civic's first integration of Google built-in for seamless on-the-go connectivity
Powerful and efficient, the hybrid powertrain is expected to represent about 40% of all Civic sales

I didn't even mention interiors... I like them all tbh, but the civic doesn't have rear usbs, all the competition does. Also Camry has rear AC vents standard!
Honda has been raising price and all there vehicle while sneakily taking away features that used to be standard and their older and cheaper models
CAMRY # 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In Europe it has a panoramic sunroof and rear- ac vents, USBs and heating not sure why it’s not the US model 😢
Yeah, I didn't expect them to do vents, but for them to take away the USB is crazy to me. Camry it is! My next car I plan to keep for 15 years
How did you get 66MPG?
There are several youtube channels in Europe that measure the car acceleration times with GPS devices. This new Civic hybrid has the same 0-100km/h of 7.1 seconds as the Prius PHEV (Prime). That's about 6.8s 0-60mph or 6.5s with 1ft rollout. But after that the Prius will accelerate faster. So, at higher speeds (on a highway pull) Honda's hybrid system is slower accelerating than the Toyota hybrid system. That's also confirmed by the C&D tests and also the Throttle House channel drag racing video between the new Accord hybrid and the new Camry Hybrid.
The one in Europe has less hp
@@destroyerofsimps6574No, it has 100% same powertrain. Same 143hp gas engine, same 181hp/232lb-ft electric motor, same transmission. Same thing with the CR-V.
I don't know why in USA they say 200+ hp as long as the electric motor is the only thing that drives the wheels and it has 181hp (max hp in Europe). At full throttle the ICE doesn't drive the wheels directly so there is nothing driving the wheels except the 181hp electric motor (which by the way has 181hp between 5000 and 8000rpms which considering the gear ratios and the tire dimension is between like 40 to 70mph. After that the power goes down and the acceleration drops, which is also confirmed by real tests).
Actually no. New Civic go around 6,7 - 6.8 sec to 100kmh on most tests.
Look even Matt on carwow tested it and its been sub 7 seconds.
@@VeyroneR Matt measures 0-60mph not 0-100km/h. I've said 6.8s 0-60mph.
And by the way, it gets these numbers only in "brake torque mode" when it doesn't mimmick those fake shifts. If you don't launch it then it's slower and then the Prius Prime will definitely be faster even from 0 to 60mph.
@@Eugen-E I tought 60mph is equal 100kmh but now I see its a bit less. Like 96 kmh.
Honda's continued insistence on packaging hybrids only as "Premium" or "Sporty," rather than economical, is frustrating and misguided. Shoppers interested in efficiency (and saving money) are naturally more interested in entry-level trims. They don't want leather and ridiculous blacked-out wheels. Honda cannot compete with Toyota Corolla hybrid or Hyundai Elantra hybrid if they limit their hybrid power-train to unnecessarily expensive trims.
I don’t think you are altogether accurate about budget shoppers. I’m looking at either a load new Mazda CX-5 turbo for $43,400 or a lower price Honda Civic that still has nice luxury touches like leather for $33k which sounds like a bargain to me! And I’m probably getting the Civic.
Maybe... Too be fair though the "Sport" trim is the Mid or second lowest trim next to the LX in their lineup. Its quite "stripped" of amenities at this point and "economically" priced in 2024
The 50mpg is pretty amazing I think I’d get the Camry still
Camry is in a different class and will cost thousands more. Unless you need a full size car, zero reason to buy the Camry. If money does not matter, then absolutely pay 6-9k more for the Camry.
@@calebniederhofer6529Civic hybrid expected to start at $28k. A 2025 Camry LE hybrid starts at $30k.
I agree 100% with you, the accord is ugly , i like the new camry, i am at the end of my civic hatchback leasing….i want the camry….
I like the old Camry front and rear over the new one by a lot.
The interior though is much better now
If I wanted a hybrid, Camry would be my choice. However, I am firmly in the minority because I still like two things: manual transmissions and cars that are at least a little unique. So, my next car will likely be a manual Mazda 3 hatchback. It’s sporty and fun, gets good fuel economy (for a non-hybrid), looks good, and is much less common than a Camry or Civic or Corolla.
Honda needs to add the manual to hybrid s again instant buy civic or integra
I just purchased my 2nd Mazda 3! Love them. I bought the Zircon Sand color.
Gosh, I remember when 14" - 15" wheels were the norm and 17" seemed giant! Oh, where have we gone?
17 inch wheels are a major SCAM! I had 3 flat tires within 6 months on my hybrid with 17 inches stock. That never happened when I had 15 inch wheels on my Corolla.
@@MiahVegabig wheels in general are a scam imo.
Yep, now wheels come up to our shoulders and we can barely see over the beltline. Automotive design is too mannered. No longer is design about form follows function. It's way out of hand.
Honda needed to bring the hybrid version of the HR-V to the US before the hybrid Civic. That’s what the market wants. Why didn't they see that when the hybrid Corolla Cross and Rav4 are selling out off the lots?
Agree that the current fuel economy is unacceptable. My daughter is in need of a new car, but I'm holding off until the end of the year to see if they throw the hybrid HR-V
Europe has has it for a few years and had the Civic hybrid for over a year. All the good stuff goes to China and Europe first.
@@alfonsom8286 '25 HRV is out with no changes. Looks like you'll be waiting until next year.
Why do you need an HRV? The Civic hatch is just as practical.
@@Blank00 want something that rides a little higher for visibility and can take bumps and potholes better in storms. Also want to do more road trips. I’m getting older. I’ve been driving coups, sedans, and hatches since high school.
The Camry is the best in this video but the next gen Corolla if Price right similar to the Camry will destroy everything
$28,000 starting price for the hybrid is £25,000, here in England the starting price for the hybrid is $44,000 (£37,000) you have no idea how lucky you are in North America, by the way, I have owned one for 6 months, you won't believe how good this car is, you are in for a real treat it's got everything it's fast handles brilliantly and is so economical you will think your fuel gauge has stopped working.
I love how Honda and Toyota are in a Mexican standoff with their sedan portfolios: the Corolla is long in the tooth and ignored while the Civic becomes a class-leading product, and the Camry is Toyota's class-leading product while the Accord is lambasted as boring. 😆
Literally.
Civic over Corolla.
Camry over Accord.
Accord is much much better than any Camry and same is true for Civic. If you drive it back to back, you will understand. Toyota makes boring and heavy cars. Hondas are lighter and better handling cars. This is their strong point. Toyota is better at big SUVs and trucks.
Love your videos keep up the good work😅
love the spreadsheet, you should add the cost to change the tires with Michelin defenders
The K20C2 engine is NOT gone! People need to stop spreading false information. No where in Honda’s press release does it mention a new engine and they only think Hybrids will account for 40% of sales.
The specs were released to dealers and the 2.0 now has less power. It’s probably the non vtec 2.0 without the hybrid system in the base Civics now
K20C is Honda best engine for the past years 😊
And more reliable
The new engine base shows the size of 81x96.7... the K series is 86x86. The new power numbers are 150hp... Down 8hp. And 133tq... Down 5tq.
I don't like it either, but it makes sense why they got rid of the manual if this is accurate. I hope you're right. I don't think you are.
Yeah don’t think they will get rid of the K20C2. They are getting rid of the L15B7. Only reason the Si still has it because there isn’t a direct replacement. And no they aren’t going to put the K20C4 in it. I think a new engine is going to be announced for the SI and this new turbo engine will also go in the accord/CRV non hybrids, and Integra.
Camry is king, but this new Civic Hybrid is a prince. The ride is much more luxurious in a Camry due to the larger size.
TRUTH!
I disagree ...
The civic is king and the camry is king both in their respected classes.
For the majority the civic is the better overall buy.
I did not say its better.
I fully expect the civic hatch and sedan to out sell the camry to private owners.
Camry may win if you include fleet sales which lowers its resale value.
Both are kings in their segments.
@@Tigerex966 no😂😂 Prius is the king in compact segment
@@ibrahimbashir6634 civic has always been the compact king although its basically midsize now look at any comparison of the last decade.
Prius did not make any list untill recently
Only recently has the prius got its look AnD power together something civic has had for Decades.
Now prius had been the hybrid king perhaps the best seller of any.
But that's about to change.
I'd love an Integra hybrid, so easy to share for the same platform, but I bet they won't do it.
The only thing that could improve between these hybrids is adding eAWD to the Prius Prime. Idk why the Prius Prime doesn’t have eAWD while the HEV has it.
Other than that, the Prius Prime checks all my boxes, efficient, amazing EV range, decent acceleration, a hatchback, it looks really really good.
Agree
The Prius Prime has a much bigger battery than the regular hybrid which eats into where the electric motor of the AWD system would typically go
@@alwaysiyi272 the new 40hp rear motor on the newer corollas and Prii is even smaller than the old 7hp one they used to have, I have no doubt that Toyota engineers can figure out how to make it work. Of course I’ll wait til I do a teardown of a new Prius to make that judgement, but i don’t see why not.
24 years ago the words Prius and sexy didn't exist in the same vocabulary
Still not in the same vocabulary.😂I do not think it’s sexy at all, civic looks way better.
@@blackwhirlwind1245🤣. New Prius looks fantastic and sexy. miles better than the boring dull civic. Your opinion is just in a ultra unimportant minority who is still stuck in the past. 😂
Kirk, Competition? What competition? When it comes to Hybrid sedans, it has to be Camry LE AWD on 16" rims or Bust!!!!!!!🤩🤩🤩🤩 In regard to hatches, others can decide if an AWD Prius beats a FWD Civic. It goes without saying that a Corolla Touring wagon conquers any other Hybrid car with a fifth door. 🥳🥳🥳🥳
In the US, the Prius is impossible to get both due to demand **but now also due to a stop-sale related to the recalls.** It's been that way since April 17 and Toyota estimates it'll be that way until Q3. I had a deposit down on one and the dealer didn't tell me about it; I found out via independent research after noticing we were past the date they told me it would arrive. I got my money back and am now waiting on a 2025 Camry instead.
I’m with Kirk here, I live the Civic more too! Just drove a new one.
Huge rims are rough. I put larger aftermarket rims on my old corolla and the tires are louder and don't last as long.
I plan on buying a hybrid this fall or winter. This is going to be a tough decision between the Civic hybrid and a Camry SE. Or I might just go to the Camry XLE. I will be waiting to see if the Civic has that delay in power when driving at highway speeds. Because that and the lack of back seat air vents are a big negative for the Civic, for me. Plus, Toyota got the jump on Honda. By Fall, Toyota will have more Camry's on the lots then Honda will have Civics. So getting a good deal might only be possible with a Camry.
They did Europe and RoW dirty with this 200hp vs 184hp we have here. Of course they didn't anticipated the Prius/Corolla move and remain very conservative with 184hp as 1.5T. Classic conservative and lack of initiative Honda.
They also increased the fuel tank vs Europe/RoW ffs
I placed an order for a mid-range Corolla AWD hybrid (because it's efficient and unbreakable) last March and am biding my time for it to get built. I live in the same province that the Civic is going to be built in so I would choose that in a heartbeat instead IF it can be delivered sooner, they can sell it at a competitive price and they've ironed out all the bugs in what is tbh, an unproven design.
current Corolla been out since 2020 model year, so should we wait for next-gen Corolla or go for this Civic?
(assuming we don't NEED a car now)
Civic over Corolla for me. Roomier back seats & trunk and much better handling and looking.
Wait for the Toyota signia, should be for sale soon
Kirk, Just Wait 10yrs or so, Guess what You Will be teaching Your Kids How To Drive in... Hahaha 🤣🎉. Prius🚗😎.
Not to mention the Civic Hybrid uses normal-sized tires from the ICE versions, not hard-to-find 195/60R17 / 195/50R19s. This is tipping me in favour of the Civic long-term, unless tire manufacturers get their act together and get tires out for Prius latter half of this year. The added response of that Toyota eCVT will wear its narrow tires (esp OEM Toyos) faster as well, at first glance.
Am rather disappointed w/ the mid-speed response of the Honda hybrid drivetrain tho, when it's supposed to replace the 1.5L turbo... which has no problem dropping V6 minivans or Tacomas at speed. We'll see when instrumented tests make it out from trusted sources -- there's a reason I have a 'no-first-yr-models' policy; could take 2 yrs for Honda to rethink its clutch pack lockup point... which tbh, a steels/fibers clutch pack in a hybrid drivetrain? *airteeth*
The only plus side we have with a first year release is that they already make the same car for other countries, and have since 2023... That said, it's made in Japan vs. Canada and U.S. So that's a little sketchy. Lol
People will say Camry this, Camry that, until they find out where they’re made and who designed them
Unfortunate how much Honda reliability has gone down ever since they started building in Mexico.
I want Lexus to make IS Hybrid with torque converter transmission.
I do mostly agree with your opinions regarding the newest Camry and Accord, I just don’t think that the grossly understyled Accord goes all the to “ugly”. I would also like to point out how reluctant automotive journalist are to declare the Camry over the Accord. You can almost sense their gag reflex triggering.
Should also consider interior space and spare tire. That’s why I chose Elantra Hybrid when I was shopping for a car in early 2023.
Spare tire is absolutely a life saver - assuming you know how to change it
For pretty much the same price I’m heavy debating getting the Civic Sport over the Camry LE. I think you are getting more luxury features when you go with the Civic, but the extra space in the Camry and the rear vents and charging ports on the Camry are something to consider. However the dash on the Civic is more my style and I believe you get leather whereas the LE you get cloth seats. It’s a tough decision the main decision will come down to the test drives and how much leg room the rear passengers have.
Civi Hatchback made in Indiana?... any quality issues?
in my experience, American-made Hondas often have fit and finish issues.
No issues with my Ohio-built Honda!!
Hatchback vs sedan 🤔🤫
If you don't fill it to the top of the back window the hatchbacks actually have less overall storage room in many cases but that big opening can make the impossible possible. For bulky items.
@naveenthemachine Why did you delete all your comments again?
I would buy a Civic Hybrid Touring before an Accord Touring solely on styling. The 11th gen Accord is flat out ugly. I've been an Acura guy forever but am curious about a hybrid to use as a daily driver. Right now the Civic and Camry are the only viable sedan options I'm considering.
The Civic Hatchback is almost a wagon, but not quite. If you extend the roof line, it'd be similar to a Corolla Touring Sport, and you'd get more headroom at the back, but Honda never made the leap, sadly.
Camry
Prius
Civic
Corolla
Elantra
You are right.
How about battery capacity and warranty?
I'd get the new Camry for a little more $.
Went to my local Honda dealership and put in a deposit for a Civic Hybrid despite no announcements yet in Canada, first in line for one. It would be hilarious if I actually end up getting the Civic Hybrid before the Corolla Hybrid that I've been waiting 1.5+ years for.
1 and a 1/2 years?! Tell me more: which city, trim, color, etc. I placed an order earlier this year for a Corolla hybrid but if it takes that long I may hedge my bets and order a Civic as well.
@@ivanidread Lowest trim, AWD, Vancouver. You're not gonna get your corolla hybrid any time soon lol... just line up for a civic hybrid, screw Toyota Canada.
Pretty sure the next gen Corolla hybrid will have the gen V THS and AWD within the next year or so.
Hoping it gets the 2.0L hybrid system with 196hp (which I think it will), because I’ll probably be downsizing from my current Camry hybrid when time comes to replace it.
I think the accord's days are numbered. Even the corolla is danger. The civic hybrid looks like a solid buy.
Based on your information it looks like a pass on the Civic. I would much rather have the Camry for similar money. AWD LE or SE. I like the gas mileage on the LE it all depends on the comfort handling trade offs on the SE.

Cheaper and cheaper feeling! Civic is miles better than the Corolla. It’s bigger, has much power and is the best driving! Outside of AWD, what advantage does the Corolla have? They’ll both hold value and be equally as reliable.
I have a soft spot for the Corolla hybrid, but the Prius and Camry blow the competition out of the water with their new sleek design and decent performance. However, nothing beats the looks of the Civic. That thing’s a beauty!
Most European features are missing in America! No diver seat rear pocket, rear USB, rear vents? HONDA REALLY DROPPED THE BALL!

Glad the junk 1.5T engine is going away
I definitely disagree, that the 1.5L is junk. That is very strong words. In reality, the motor is probably more reliable than many motors. Honda is smart though. They realize that most people want economy and power. Hybrid is the future.
My friend she got a new Prius, and I had trouble getting in the passenger front seat because of the rakish windshield. I own a current Civic sedan and I have lots of room. Im looking forward to getting the Civic Hatch later this year when I turn in my lease. 7 inch ground clearance...
I love this. I really think in small and expensive cars that adding a turbocharged motor it’s not worth a trade-off from a reliability and maintenance standpoint. Naturally aspirated engine with an electric motor is a winning formula. better fuel, efficiency, and probably better reliability
You should give your opinion outside looks, because anyone can easily assess the looks themselves. All the other factors that can’t be assessed without actually seeing them up close and driving them is what consumers need. Just a suggestion.

I just drove a new Accord, I’m shopping. I didn’t think it was ugly at all but it’s not my favorite grill look.
The hybrid engine is setup with the Atkinson cycle. Probably will be tune differently for the non-hybrid version to get a bit more horsepower.
Fuel economy (at least the european model) has been tested by people who actually know how to drive hybrids economically, and it is comparable with the Corolla Touring Sport 2.0L (18''). So about 60 / 50 / 40 mpg for city / mixed / highway. I think it's gonne be equivalent to a Corolla.
Between the Civic and the Prius / Corolla, I would go with the Civic Touring (Hatchback) for sure. I have a Corolla Touring Sport, which I'm very happy with, so no bias. It's just better, but more expensive.
I wish they made the Civic more like a Wagon, with a flatter roof at the back for headroom, but hey, still good. And yeah, forget the koreans (meh).
Any chance the next Si is just a manual version of the hybrid?
Not a chance. Honda's current hybrid system does not have a transmission, but rather is direct drive ICE or electric motor depending on speed and throttle demand.
This channel is just more and more of a Toyota fanboys wet dream! Civic is #1 in this class and it’s not even close. It’s the biggest, is hands down the best to drive, and it’s got good power and efficiency.
I've got my Cheez Whiz and my Coke Zero and I'm buckled in !!! Let's go !!! I like to keep cars as simple as possible. How do you improve a spoon? My favorite compact car is the Mazda 3 and it too has an awful infotainment screen. C'mon Japan, you could do better. Integrate the screens in the dash so they don't stick out like an eyesore. Look at Audi. Look at Volvo. Make the infotainment screens invisible until they're needed. This isn't rocket science. You can do it!
Screens were in the dash for decades and it was predictable and boring so manufacturers listened to people who wanted big screens and this is what happens. Change is rarely better.

Honda has been making this mistake for a long time, which gives the camry way more sales.
Accord is too expensive and over priced, yet not competitive with the top trim camry's. The civic is over priced and competes with the lower end camry, which offers more standard options.
Its been this way for a while, making honda a non viable option unless you get a deal, but multiple times honda dealers said quote "We don't compete with toyota" when I threatened to go buy a camry. Which I did go buy a camry for like 6k lower than an equally equipped accord.
Honda wants to stop making cars and this is their excuse, make noncompetitive cars that no one buys.

I'd get this over the camry. Based off of the reviews of the new camry, the current accord hybrid, and the eHEV civic in europe, it will be quicker. That rear hatch is also absolutely cavernous, and more than enough for an average family.
Honda's reliability has been less than ideal these days. I'll stick with Toyota until Honda proves they got their 💩 back together.
Not true Honda has been releasing its best cars
Their 1.5t is what’s pushing Honda’s overall reliability down. But their hybrids are reliable.
What data do you have that supports this conclusion? Most of these claims come from anecdotes which tell you nothing statistically significant. Oil dilution? No solid data on that. You can also find similar anecdotes of those same engines going several hundred thousand miles with few to no problems. I drove a Honda Accord to 350k miles before selling it and experienced few problems. I also do regular maintenance and upkeep my vehicles well. If you ask me, I’d say Hondas have been very reliable for me, but I can’t say much outside of my own experience. We simply don’t have very good data. A lot of the the data we do have are marketing bs, like JD Power. Consumer Reports is about the best you can get, but even they have flaws.

Nobody loves prices but cars are super important for those of us who live in states where there isn’t much public transit that I wouldn’t want to use anyway. I’m in Texas and then moved to Oklahoma and we all have cars or the poor just catch buses or walk or bike. But everyone I know has a car and thus a job. But you don’t care about that so I digress. There is no perfect machine. I think you are too worried about the minutiae of a car down to its cardiovascular system, just get an extended warranty if you are so concerned or I guess you will stay out of the market. But you get one life, maybe you don’t have to be so crusty. Do you have kids? Maybe you can mellow for them. You talk like an engineer. My family has owned dealerships since 1952, we don’t even get people with failures in cars with direct injection. lol
I’m around these machines daily. The British cars and European cars are the ones always in the shop, and those junky Chryslers! Can’t stand them. Have a good Holiday weekend and I hope you get what you want;
@@2004cyrus While reading your braggadocious resume word salad, I noticed how passive/aggressive you presented and smiled realizing how relaxed your present financial position has made you feel. Congratulations my friend. Nuff said!
@@Dan-p360 I’m secure in God. It’s all his. I’m just a steward over the wealth that was passed down. I’ve worked hard to give much cash away at various places in my city and also given to Israel for 10 years as God tells us too. That’s why I’m at peace.
You on the other hand are a miserable human being. And yes I’m passive/aggressive when people are rude: I have to constantly work on that. Your word salad on something as silly as injection in a car was a bit bitter to my tastebuds. I can imagine how much fun you must be for your wife to tolerate. Oh wait! I bet you are single as a Pringle which explains a lot. You sleep alone and cuddle with your pillow. I can’t listen to any more of your folderol.
It will sell like wildfire for sure.
It won't sell and will be discontinued soon just like 2015... And just like honda insight
@@ibrahimbashir6634They’ll sell plenty. It’s actually currently outselling the Corolla and Prius.
It might spread like wildfire too
The new camry isnt a hatchback and that is where it takes the L. Plus people pay a toyta tax these days
Between the civic and the prius, i would choose the civic. More space, the dash is a normal dash, comes with 18 " wheels instead of the 19" with really narrow tires that will be hard to find. It can be had with sunroof. The base prius comes with 17 wheels, but again that size is not common, hard to find.
Everyone complains about missing rear air vents. But I’d rather sacrifice that for more HP.
With cvt 😂
Looks like they did sacrifice it for more HP. They also sacrificed the adjustable lumbar support, the push button shifter, and the panoramic sunroof that this car gets in other markets. All for a whopping 19 horses!

The kids won't die if they have to wait an extra minute for the ac to get to them.
@@N20Joe exactly.
Civic hybrid basically beats both Corolla and Prius, that Corolla is just super boring to drive, Civic hybrid is more sporty to drive while giving you good MPG, Prius in my opinion is ugly, that gauge cluster is not a good design, and it’s pretty expensive considering what you get with it. So just get Civic Hybrid hatch or sedan, or accord hybrid if you want all the tech features or Camry Hybrid. I would not touch any Hyundai or Kia hybrids.
Agree accords is ugly
Toyota is working with Mazda the new Camry is a Mazda 🤔
I dont care, I still find the prius unattractive, much prefer the civic hatchback
"Doesn't handle as well as the Prius" Said no one ever.
Camry is ugly.
