Just traded in my 2013 Crosstrek Premium with 175,000 miles for a Corolla Cross Hybrid. The Crosstrek head gaskets needed replacing ($ ouch) , CVT issues, 22 miles per gallon, and it was an oil burner (1 qt / 1,500 miles). There were lots of other expensive issues but it did look good. The CCH (new) is not quite the dirt road vehicle as the Crosstrek, but it is much faster, gets 42 MPG, quieter, smoother, and feels more sophisticated.
Past 4 years crosstrek has all issues resolved and is far better and nicer than Toyota corolla, has 29 miles per gallon which is the best in its class. Corolla is still very good car and yes, hybrid is better with fuel consumption, just for curiosity you should test drive new crosstrek to feel different. On crappie roads subaru is the best.
@@marekmroczkowski2775 I've been driving for 58 years and the Corolla Cross Hybrid (42 mpg) is the first car I've driven (except 2006 Audi A3 Turbo) that has gotten mileage that was posted on the window sticker including my Crosstrek. I'm not sure sure a CCH is even close to the Corolla even though it is built on the same platform. The Subaru crosstrek has a CVT transmission. Those are only expected to last 150k miles. But I guess Subaru doesn’t care how upset the customer is once they’ve reached 150k
@twincams350, how many people do you think well own the same vehicle for 150k miles. Subaru's are on their 6th generation CVT and haven't had problems with them like all the Nissan's do.
My 2014 Subaru Outback just passed 155000 miles with a CVT. Only issue was a solenoid that lost its mind and reported problems, still drove great, my mechanic replaced it back on the road this year for skiing trips next year. Will buy again.
Crosstrek indeed rides well - still not great power with the Sport's 2.5L but I blame that on Subie continuing to offer CVTs with no other choices. Comfortable and quiet vehicle that goes anywhere and can handle moderate offroad conditions and crappy weather.

Major problem with the Ford Mustang's Mach - E trunk. There is NO drain. Any rain water that get in there stays. The trunk is slopped so any water run forward on to the car floor.
The 2.0L Crosstrek is more than enough for commuters and highway worriers! I have owned one for a year now and love it. Handles amazing in Canadian winter.
The 2.0L engine is way underpowered for this car, and with the CVT it saps even more of its already limited power. CR even says in their review of the 2.0L engine - "We wish the base engine didn't feel so feeble or get so loud..." Yeah, it's a dog.

I used to trust CR until I bought a 2020 Camry in Dec of 2020. CR gave high ratings on the Camry though Toyota were replacing tens of thousands of engines, transmission problems among other issues. Toyota left the engine problems for the customers to find and tried to hide it. I should have realized there were problems with the cars when there were so many 2020's on the lots. Before 2016 when I tried to find a end of the year deal all the Camry's were sold out or spoken for. My 2020 Camry ruined a 30 year trust of Toyota products. The 2018 Camry was the start of the Toyota problems and it's been going downhill since.

But the worst car I ever had in terms of reliability - including all the used vehicles I've had. Subsequent years of other owner experiences proved VW quality to be in the dumpster too.
Sorry you had problems with your Passat, but we have always had a great experience with VWs. Generally, CR doesn’t give VW the time of day, they are so biased.
Why should I trust a video that uses AI announcers that use multiple pronunciations of a vehicles name, and shows in writing the Toyota Camry as "Cambry"?

They aren't even built in the same factory but the new Mazda CX50 is built on the same assembly line at a joint venture factory in Huntsville Alabama. The Crosstrek has also gotten progressively larger with each generation and that's a problem for me. It's just my personal preference for a smaller SUV or I would have bought a RAV 4 hybrid instead.
I went with the rav4 adventure 😊
@@marekmroczkowski2775 Yes, the Crosstrek is better on rough dirt roads but the Cross Hybrid is much faster with its 3 electric motors. I did look at the new Crosstrek and RAV 4 but they seem to have grown significantly larger since 2013.
I bought one last October of 2023. Great car, 👍my Subaru crosstrek is a 2024 model.
$39000 for a Prius? WTF
we are no longer in 2008 pricing
It is not worth so much money by far. People who pay that price are stupid!
Actually it’s worth more ❤ love mine
Fast fun 🤩 and will probably be around 30 plus years !
Prius Prime
The Prius will outlast and cost less to own than any vehicle in its price range ... any competitor is not even close ...
WTF on any new car price; I have 4 ,10 year or older cars and can work on them, too. Invert your money in something with a reel return, like a house.
I currently have two Kia’s, one Subaru and two Toyota trucks. They’re all good. No real problems.
Crosstrek indeed rides well - still not great power with the Sport's 2.5L but I blame that on Subie continuing to offer CVTs with no other choices. Comfortable and quiet vehicle that goes anywhere and can handle moderate offroad conditions and crappy weather.
Do you find the safety features overly sensitive? I've heard the eyesight system can brake hard when it's not necessary.
@@blissfuljoy6049 Eyesight is overly sensitive and frankly interolable. It's constantly beeping and absolutely will apply the brakes severely when it perceives there may be a problem. That was the final straw for me and I traded in my '22 Legacy XT Touring when I was almost rear-ended by another vehicle in a curve - there was an oncoming car that the system apparently thought was going to hit me and it applied the brakes forcefully, almost bringing my car to a complete stop on a 55 mph road, with the vehicle behind narrowly missing me. That was the final straw for me and I traded that car for a loss, and will never own another Subaru (it was my 6th Subaru, too, so it's not like I am new to the brand).
@@nerbur That's not good. I wonder if this has been fixed for 2024. What did you wind up going with if you don't mind me asking?
@@nerbur Ouch! That is a shame you had to trade in your Subaru after being so loyal to the brand, but I can understand why. If that happened to me I would also file a complaint with the NHTSA. I take it they couldn't or wouldn't turn down the sensitivity or update the eyesight?
Nope works great
What's up with the Forest Gump voice over???
Just one question… does it have edible electrical wiring insulation??
i read about arrogance from Toyota and I agree. Years ago we bought a new car from them and the radio failed 2 months later. They would not switch it from another new idle vehicle on the lot. ….six months later for a new radio. Vendor out of present stock, was the excuse.
Ford is recalling 242,000 mavericks from year model 2022-2024.
It's a minor issue with the tail lights. All manufacturers have recalls at one time or another
so if they ignored issues, they would be criticized, and if they address issues they still get criticized.
I wish the rest of the Japanese car makers would DROP the CVT and only offer a 6spd automatic LIKE MAZDA!! The BEST Japan car company!! Not to mention MOST BEAUTIFUL CARS too!! ❤
That’s your Opinion
@powertools2375 and I'm RIGHT! I suppose You love CVTs😅
If it weren't for the damn CVTs, then I would choose Honda!
Here's an idea... Instead of saying what You said, tell me (us) what YOUR favorite is and WHY. 🤔🧐
@@G-Man4809 I drive a Tacoma but with those comments you sound……to put it nicely, un-intelligent but whatever you say.
@powertools2375 How do I sound dumb??
Mazda3 look sharp inside. Wouldnt pass up a Toyota but Mazda reliability is increasing quickly.😅
Toyota is collaborating with a few other automakers these days. Obviously BMW with the Supra, and Subaru with the AE86/BRZ/FRS, but they are supposedly in cahoots with Mazda as well, they have a joint plant in Alabama that produces the Toyota Corolla Cross and the Mazda CX-50.
Toyota owns 20% of Mazda
Major problem with the Ford Mustang's Mach - E trunk. There is NO drain. Any rain water that get in there stays. The trunk is slopped so any water run forward on to the car floor.
The 2.0L Crosstrek is more than enough for commuters and highway worriers! I have owned one for a year now and love it. Handles amazing in Canadian winter.
The 2.0L engine is way underpowered for this car, and with the CVT it saps even more of its already limited power. CR even says in their review of the 2.0L engine - "We wish the base engine didn't feel so feeble or get so loud..." Yeah, it's a dog.
not if you live in mountain states where it’s actually one of the most popular cars 😂
Put the highest premium fuel ($) in the 2.0 & it drives way better....
@@nerbur Subaru makes a lot of sense in cold climates and I can see AWD being a higher priority than performance for people living in places like Canada, Maine, and upstate NY who want safety and don't have a lead foot. Personally, I live in FL where AWD is pointless. I recently bought a 2024 V6 Camry instead of a Subaru because I was getting tired of driving slow ass cars my entire life.
@@nerbur usually spoken by people that have never driven one, and CVT "sapping power" displays an ignorance of why they are there.
Yeah, but do they hold up in 5-10 years? That’s what important.
yup...totally agree
Yes, they do. 90+ percent of Subaru's sold 10 years ago, are still on the road and that number will climb higher as the newer gen vehicles take over the existing on-the-road inventories.
and you don't get longevity by starting with low quality. The list is mostly no surprise to me, Toyota, Subaru, Mazda generally dont treat customers with contempt
No Honda?
@rodcrispo5859 Honda went down in the last few years, unfortunately.
There are NO Subaru Crosstreks for sale anywhere close to 25K. I wish you guys would stop listing these unrealistic and unavailable retail prices. Also, it’s “HP” not “GP”.
All the savings in fuel mean nothing if you have an extremely expensive CVT repair or repair other parts of the car that have to do with saving gasoline
Windshield replacement is how much on the Crosstrek??? That's where the radar is
Reliability is not my primary concern.
1) Safety
2) Comfort &Luxury
3) looks
Volvo checks all the boxes.
Sure Toyota and Lexus are very reliable, but their seats are horrible and they are so ugly.
Currently on a 2014 XC60 with 120k miles and is been extremely reliable and loved driving every mile.
Reliability is the most important thing to me after Safety.
Don't need to spend time fixing a vehicle when I could be doing something else with precious time.
My 2016.Tesla Model S earned a score of 103 from Consumer Reports. The score was revised to 100 since no product should be over 100. Just replaced it with a Model Y Performance.
The build quality of a Tesla is so poor! I was in traffic next to one and all I noticed was the big and uneven gaps between the body, doors and hatch. A Toyota is built better!
LOL, keep dreaming...
They rated them at 99 as I recall saying it was the best car they ever tested. Then they decided they dislike Musk so now the car sucks. CR is not credible due to their biases.
Very tough to listen to AI voice over. Note how prius is pronounced. Is it that expensive to get a human to do the voiceover?
We use a group of journalists called AJAC automotive journalists association Canada as consumers report is American based I prefer to rely on them not you greetings from southern Ontario Canada
My father in law has been leasing Outbacks for over a decade. He swore by them and their safety. My wife was even thinking about trying to buy it once his lease was up since he cares for it with loving OCD. Then he found out the Air Bags were faulty and could have gone off accidentally while just driving. Now my wife will never buy a Subaru because of course it’s so expensive to remove and reinstall airbags that I believe it’s easier to total it out. Her dad didn’t get the option to have buy it because of this huge failure. It didn’t stop her father from replacing it with a different Subaru though
Honda Accord. 🥇
Seems that circa 30mpg is considered good in the USA. Similar European cars have double that. Why are American cars so thirsty?😳
The US gallon is smaller, therefore gets fewer miles.
Test driving a new car for a few weeks is different than buying it and owning it day in day out praying the damn thing doesn't breakdown and end up in the shop more than the road
WHERE ARE YOU GETTING YOUR PRICES !! ADD ON ABOUT $5K - $10K MORE ON EACH PRICE !!
Believe Consumer Reports on Vehicles to your own peril.
CR as as most people are concerned is Public Relations department of Toyota.
Notice their half clever report on Prius.. " it has poor visibility" but that's not count in their so called Review of Prius. But if this observation is about America or European car, it would be seen as a major flaw.
I'm certain the Editor drives a big Toyota (Avalon)?😅 and owns a bunch of their stock.....
Google 3 words. Subaru motor problems. I can rebuild engines and transmissions. The most problem free are Lexus, Toyota, Mazda, Honda.
Cambry?
CRV 2.0L , 2015 2WD km run 65,000 km , NO MAJOR PARTS replaced
Honda Fit... Toyota Yaris. We have both and never had problems
I'm sorry, but NO FORD can even be considered.
Agreed. We have owned a Ford minivan (way back in the day) and a Ford pickup. The van had multiple issues. Everything inside cabin kept breaking , engine troubles, etc. The truck’s clutch failed within 2 years….. since then, we buy Japanese vehicles. Our Honda Odyssey is 20 years old and still going strong! Looking to buy another Honda SUV.
Toyota has blown it with spotty reliability and greedy arrogant dealers. I will NEVER buy another Failyota.
I guess these cars are perfect if you hate driving and like being uncomfortable. Who in their right mind thinks driving a car with a cvt and cardboard for seats is perfect.
Agree, the outback gave me backpain just by trying it in the showroom
Not interested in the plug-in hybrid. I have a hybrid that I don't have to remember to plug in, so I'm doing fine. And, wonder how many people living in apt. complexes bought the wrong hybrid.
what's the name of the song playing in the background?
Interesting mix of left hand and right hand drive vehicles. I guess you didn't "C" the Maverik, (Maverick) LOL
This site is never inconsistent.
It consistently thrives on errors of detail, bias, bad use of language, direct wording from manufacturer brochures and gives the sense of being in their pockets.
AVOID.
Agree wholeheartedly. Consumer Reports is BS.
For the damn excessive prices, they better be perfect!
whats the best 2024 SUV 30K TO 50K PRICE RANGE IVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR 4 YEARS I NEED HELP PLS :(my kids are growin up
Honda CRV Hybrid, of course.
That candy apple blue isn't available in the USA or Canada as a color choice for a '24 Crosstrek, so where in the heck did that car in the video come from??
Misleading title (click bait) and ridiculous comparisons. Mixing the different ratings organizations means the numbers have no real value.
Isn’t Nissan rogue the most fuel efficient gas suv
This is the future of TH-cam. AI powered channels galore! Yay.
Yes agreed 100%
Adding the ford maverick qualify your video as fake news.
I noticed they didn't use reliable with the Ford Maverick LOL can you say recalls!!
Give me a TOYOTA any day!
Me to loll
Why they are the 4x4 kings
Strange report……cars with the drivers seat on the right in many videos. Also, I have a car with adaptive cruise control and I considered this and lane hold, must have features, and this wasn’t mentioned anywhere in this video?
PS: My car with adaptive cruise and lane hold is a 2017 Toyota RAV4 XLE, which I bought new in March of 2017. Would never buy a car without these features.
So interesting. Now all they have to do is make the bloody things affordable!
Interesting and informative 🇯🇲
Consumer Reports no longer has as much credibility as it did in years past. I learned that when I bought a new VW Passat in 2000, based on CR. Great looking design.
The Prius Prime is unobtainable... none on lots, none to be ordered... you'll only find them on the west coast
Why should I trust a video that uses AI announcers that use multiple pronunciations of a vehicles name, and shows in writing the Toyota Camry as "Cambry"?
Great Review!!! BUT NO TURBOS!!!! It will be the FIRST THING TO GO And Most Expensive!!

Ford Maverick? What about "legendary" Ford reliability/
Ford Reliabity? That is a jok. Fix Or Repair Daily.
23K for a Maverick?? LMAO!!! Try 33K.
Give me a Subaru anyday!
Honda any day. I owned a Subaru, I owned Toyotas, Sold the Subaru quickly, To many mechanical problems in the Toyotas, then I took Dads advice an got a Honda. Driven them all a lot of miles , no mechanical problems, just regular maintenance. I will be sticking with my Honda CRV, and Hubby loves his Tundra.
Mazda all the way!!❤
Mazda junk, had a cx5 worst vehicle I've ever owned.....never again...
I hate the infotainment system on the new Crosstrek. HVAC should be dedicated now on a screen.
Uh, I think this clip is somewhat misleading and it appears to me every car they reviewed has paid for the review. Not unheard of, but the most honest posters tell you ahead of time that they're being paid.
Whomever created this video spelled Maverick wrong in the video.
Everything was going fine until they hit the Ford Maverick - from the company with the greatest number of recalls - are you kidding me? I have zero confidence that this vehicle will have long term reliability.
Toyota cvt is not like other cvt transmissions. It has a separate motor to assist making it much mor reliable
Toyota Pry-us??
You spelled Camry wrong - on the intro - CAMBRY and Maverick MAVERIK
How can the new Prius be almost perfect when it rides uncomfortably and has poor visibility? Consumer Reports definition of an "almost perfect car" is plainly inaccurate.
They have a ford maverick on this list and it’s horrendous in quality lolol My Toyota rav 4 is only 8 years old and the torque converter just blew I’m so pissed off Ill buy a Honda and that’s it
CR is no longer valid. I have a 2020 Infiniti QX80 and it has been totally reliable. It’s the Nissan Patrol chassis so built like a tank. Our Arab friends pound all over the desert in theirs…

Maverick can't be found for 23,000
Anything with a CVT isn't worth buying.
Toyota makes a very reliable ctv with manufacturer recommended ctv oil changes. Driving them at first seems strange ,because of no gear shifting ,but they work well to give optimal fuel efficiency.
What is a CVT?
How much is a buyong?
Then don’t buy

Every one of these vehicles are from Japan. What a coincidence being that consumer reports is owned by JAPAN! They put in one American vehicle to make it look good.
Probably a bigger coincidence that Jaoanese companies have been building quality cars all over the world. My Hilux/Tacoma was bulit in Thailand. 600, 000 klms and still going strong.
