This was a very long time ago back when I was in junior high. We had a new classmate in introduced to us in second semester and she just happens to be Asian. Her English was quit good and I’ve talked to her maybe once or twice and learning that she’s a generally chill gal who likes Mario and video games. The beginning of the first week was okay, but as the second week came around and everyone got to know her, it’s like all hell break loose. People were trolling her for no good reason because she’s Asian, pulling their eyes, asking why she squint when thinking (like what? When I “hmmm” I squint too!” but quickly turned to blatant racism as ppl called her a “Ch*nk” and a nerd. I even remember one time she got harassed to flash in front of the class and immediately broke down in front of us. Her eyes filled with tears and hand clasping her dress like she’s about to fucking die. It was the most inhumane treatment I’ve ever witnessed happening to a girl and yet I did nothing. I stared blankly as this whole disgusting ordeal as it is literally unveiling in front of me and yet I couldn’t even move a muscle. For the next few days, she started missing class 3-4 days a week. The only days she was here I’ve observed visible gashes of cuts, even though she tried to hide it with her collar, tracing along her neck to her arm still red and bruised while her eyes look totally out of it. No one else seemed to notice this because I’ve never heard a mention but the bullying did died down a notch. I talked to my counselor about the situation that I think might be happening but he assured me he’s doing something abt it. After close to a month, she’s gone. I believe she transferred out because that’s what I was told but I’m not sure and still worried about her to this day. In this world where prejudice and violence is scattered everywhere, I wish I could tell you a clear answer on what I think you should do to wrap everything up, but all I hope is just for you to make choices that you could be proud of.
