I really like the engineering that went into these goggles, you can tell the attention to detail and also how easy it’s to disassemble yet it’s so solid in the hand. They put thought into these goggles for it to be cheap/affordable to pilots to fix their goggles, I don’t see DJI doing any of this, support real FPV merchants now.
Dude! I had no idea and just assumed the faceplate came fully seated, but makes sense that it doesn’t for ease of swapping - mine wasn’t clicked on at all. I can now see all the way to the corners of my screens! Might be worth a separate PSA. Thank you as always for the thorough vids!
Thanks Ryan! I was able to remove a dust speck from inside the OLED with the help of this excellent tutorial. Appreciate all you do for the community and hope to see you at IO again this year!
Amazing video , I used it to open the optics to get dust out and I absolutely advise anyone reading this to not use scotch tape. I got the dust off but added residue to the lcd/optics
If you don't have a guitar pick or plastic spatula lying around, the tip of a prop works just as well for opening up those plastic tabs. Considering the market for the goggles, you *may* have one of them lying around ...
Also, I didn't know my faceplate wasn't really clipped on. It's how the goggles were shipped to me, and there weren't any instructions otherwise that I saw. Thanks for sharing.
The video was great just to see how to remove & replace the damn faceplate. You made it look easy. It took me several minutes (interspersed w/ much colorful vocabulary) to get mine snapped back on properly. Thx!
I had a tiny speck of black dust inside the lens after i blew my goggles off with compressed air. I tried it ahain and now theres 10 to 20 specks in there. Ive been flying and ignoring it but its getting to me. Pretty happy you mentioned the dust and how to clean it out
Ryan, thanks very much for this video. Do you know which spares will be available to the general public? Would I be able to order a right or left side replacement SMA connector board for example?
It’s not the money… it’s that I can’t get a replacement tomorrow 😂 Thank you for this! Edutainment!!! What an elegant design, I love it so much! Is the RTC battery 3V? Or 1.5?
Nice video, but. I have one important question. How to clean optics in HDZero goggles safely? I have unfortunately some dust inside. I need to remove it. So what is the best way, to do that?
He mentioned it in the video. Take the door off the optics and blow it out. I'm sure you can use compressed air but be careful you aren't spraying super hard.
What kind of battery does the RTC need? It seems like the newest firmware is ready to support that feature, and id love to have that... Thanks for all you post!
I want to build a stereo 3D goggle. Can you detach die Display cables? My plan is to by a second goggle and run one display of each goggle individually. Would this be possible? What do you think?
My Philip don't seem the right size. Won't unscrew. Might strip. Urs seemed so easy to unscrew. Link to one you used? My has something inside it rattling. Just got them like a week ago. Ugh.
Took me a few reads and watches to see this. Middle not mittle. Lower dark grey not upper light grey. Lower left corner of latch broken while disassembling. Ouch.
7:40 ryan and carl, please release. Firmware to support Left and Right Cam , Stereo. For the Goggle HDZero. Also want to see VTX Dual Camera Left and Right. Firmware Stereomode.
You said " You can always send it in for repair." I had a VRX failure after buying hdzero goggles for Christmas, it's been over a month and there has been no progress from hdzero.
There is something rattling around the inside of my headset, like a screw came loose in there or something. Has anyone experienced this? Do I need to take it apart to fix it?
@@ethrrr White is not practical, unless you want to look like an alien/weirdo in public. There's a reason profession equipment are never white. overheating is just a myth you guys buy into.
And why do we need to know this? How about getting Carl to change the "Add To Cart" button on the web site to "Pre-Order" and telling folks when the heck they can possibly see the product they paid for. The website since last week leads you to believe they are in stock and shipping. This 2 days shipping after order and a warehouse in Cali is a big smoke screen. When is this suppose to happen? Folks are getting tired of being told one thing by "You Tuber's" and then finding out they have been duped! How about putting out some information that will actually tell the whole and true story about product availability and shipping. Right now it's a big we don't know. What is known is that if you pay using a debit card the money leaves your account with hours of ordering.

Glad I helped!
Same with me. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks. See you at IO!
I absolutely love the modular design. Well done!
The more I learn about this system, the more I am falling in love with it.
Thanks for this.
1 suggestion ... always prepare small magnet attached on metal coaster to place & hold the screws safely.
Amazing video , I used it to open the optics to get dust out and I absolutely advise anyone reading this to not use scotch tape. I got the dust off but added residue to the lcd/optics
Ouch. Yeah, I would not have tried that at all.

Thx for this vid. Had to take mine apart today and for sure would have gotten impatient and broken something.

Could you maybe do a video taking the optics out please. Would be very helpful to people having the optics problem? thanks
now it is the time! thanks Ryan
thank you so much for this. clock battery installed successfully.
Finally needed this vid to install the RTC battery and I also want to paint the shell
I don't really want to open mine up, but I was looking forward to the RTC.

When blowing it out, turn the goggle upside down so the dust falls to the ground
@RyanQuellet gotcha is compressed air ok? Or should I get an electronics duster can
Nice thorough review - is there a fuse on the power input?
Sweet! Any tip for removing the fan cover?

like the steam deck?

Is the RTC battery 3V? Or 1.5?
Good question! Vast majority are lithium button cells @ 3V, right? Not something to screw up though!
Nice video, but.

I see the lens case has straight edges on top and bottom. what's the difference compared to the current ones(completely circular)

Oh no, the mittle latch of the grey buttom chassis has already a crack (see 10:43)
Took me a few reads and watches to see this. Middle not mittle. Lower dark grey not upper light grey. Lower left corner of latch broken while disassembling. Ouch.
Thanks Ryan! Looks really easy to take apart! I just hope I never have to! Lol
Maybe in 4 years I’ll jump on the HDzero bandwagon but for now I’ll enjoy my DJI and cheap analog setups lol
Will there be a backpack solution for tracer/crossfire in the near future?
Nice video my friend. Thumps up from Germany
I love how the oleds move 👌
Not the fatshark lens move 😮 shit thing.

Kind of dangerous letting your sdcard in the slot...
Remember the steam deck disassemblies :D
What voltage is the RTC clock working at?
The connector at least seemed like the standard connector for a 3V lithium battery (with a lead). I'd like to know for sure as well.
Great teardown. I doubt I'd have a reason to open them - but who knows.....
I cant wait to get HDzero!
You said " You can always send it in for repair." I had a VRX failure after buying hdzero goggles for Christmas, it's been over a month and there has been no progress from hdzero.
This is quite unusual. Try checking the spam folder in your inbox. I know they get back with people quickly
How are the DVR files named now?
Sequentially
@@RyanQuellet Thanks - I assume the counter resets whenever the sd card is formatted?

Those displays are *crazy* small!
People just want the shell stl so they can put a logo or inbeded antenna, prob won't be redesigning, just little additions
i just want the whole thing black
Shell has been available for some time? Do you mean internals?
github.com/hd-zero/hdzero-tooling
Black just looks nice, it is not practical. Unless you fly in cold weather :))

If this in running with linux i bet one could make it run Doom :D
would be better if it is stealthy black, overheating is just a myth
Painful enough to watch you do it. I think I'll keep mine in one piece. 😊
