Alfred: "great, how did it go?"
Zangetsu: ROUGHLY GRABS ALFRED BY THE COLLAR AND STRANGLES HIM WHILE SHOUTING "DO NOT EVER ASK ME THAT EVIL QUESTION EVER AGAIN!! It's a wonder I got out of that volcano alive......" PTSD FLASHBACKS
Alfred: "...o...okay zangetsu. well since time is of the essence I'll go ahead and have you set out. we'll catch up with you. also here..have this alchemically improved zangetsutou, it's so sharp it could probably cut the moon in half!"
Zangetsu: "GIMME!" busy drooling as he looks over the weapon
Alfred: "Now of course you need to be extra careful to not...actually cut the moon in half and-"
Zangetsu: "NO TIME!! OFF TO CUT THE MOON IN HALF!"
Alfred: "....please be joking."
Zangetsu: now standing atop the ship, giving alfred a funny look "Who's joking?"
THE SHIP TAKES OFF AS ALFRED ROARS "GET BACK HERE AND GIVE ME THAT SWORD YOU PSYCHOPATH!! WE NEED THE MOON TO SURVIVE YOU UNBELIEVABLE IDIOT!! STOP!! TURN AROUND!! oh sweet christ i need to tell the others to hurry...." AS ZANGETSU'S EVIL LAUGHTER CAN BE HEARD ECHOING ACROSS THE SKIES

I like to imagine Zangetsu is cackling the entire way to the Moon as he realizes he will FINALLY be able to cleave the Moon in two...

Zangetsu, upon discovering that the moon has a demon army, proceeds to fucking fly to the moon by sheer force of anger and swordsmanship alone.

I love how the normal shmup theme is a lot more chill but hopeful, basically giving a "We know this is a one-way trip but it's to save the world. Let's get to it!" and solo zangetsu's comes out with the guitar shredding like "FUCK YEAH WE'RE GONNA FLY TO THE MOON AND PUNCH THE MOON IN THE DICK! WOOOOO!!"
Alfred: "Alright, let's everyone split up and find parts for the spaceship."
* The spaceship revs up on its own.
Alfred: "Where's Zangetsu?"
Zangetsu: "I'mma cleave the moon. Later bitches."
Everyone: "ZANGETSU, NO!!"
It was at this moment that Zangetsu reverted back into his always pissed off and revengeful personality from Curse of the Moon 1. The final paragraph from the intro of the first game wasn't lying whatsoever.
What you guys don’t know is this soundtrack is probably a teaser for what Songs are going to be in Ritual of the Night 2 as well as the bosses, HECK maybe even the characters!
And then Zangetsu, in a fit of pure demonic rage, decided that cutting the demon that cursed him was not enough, so he fucking cut the moon in half.
The problem is that the S pickups actually speed you up, and picking up too much is gonna put your ship into overdrive, thus actually making it hard to dodge boolets.
Also, if you did this minigame with at least a single character with you, the music used is different.

These games are truly masterpieces and there is no reason you shouldn’t complete them 100% they’re that good. When this theme kicked on I locked in so hard, 10/10 epic

The more units, the more lives
If you bring all 7, you'll have 16 tries in casual
You'll also get more weapons for your ship being their subweapons, while i did get those in my Zangetsu Ultimate Solo
You get more weapon pickups regardless of going solo or not
Personally, I thought the shmup level was pretty well done, but then again, I like this sort of thing. I can definitely see how this could pose a nasty obstacle to players less experienced in or who dislike the genre. I also haven't attempted solo Zangetsu myself yet, so that might change my opinion on it.
it's not even that I dislike the genre, but who in their right mind designs a powerup that makes you TOO fast?

@@jakedge3 Gradius was and it's very similar in its handling of speed ups. And I think LifeForce/Salamander is identical to this. Both were made by Konami back when they, y'know, didn't suck.

Nope, alfred is just THAT far ahead of his time.
I should point out that in RoTN alfred was such a prodigy that he devised a means of manipulating time around an individual through alchemy.
the dude was straight up able to put specific things into chrono-stasis. it's a major plot point.
This is the Zangetsu Solo version.
On veteran its difficult but not impossible.

Interesting take. How attuned are you to brutal games like this? I didn't have much trouble with this section as compared to what you described.
I used to loathe gradius 3 back when I was a kid. I can appreciate games like this, but this specific genre of space shooter was never for me.
and this is coming from a guy who played an assload of gradius 3. that and donkey kong were the only games I had at the time. then yoshi's island came along and I forgot all about gradius 3.

Shooter stage
You play this game which plays like a Castlevania game and then you get into this level which plays like Gradius.....it was unexpected. Alos it was kinda brutal for me bcause I've never been good at those "Gradius" kind of games.
I before going to the moon picked up at last one upgrate without finishing the stage and when i played this level i have upgrate weapons from all characters
I really hope what Inti Creates make a Remake of The Guardian Legend...

truth be told i was supposed to spend this weekend playing ghost of tsushima but then i saw ppl wanted the other soundtracks and just....made them and uploaded them instead. my whole weekend consisted of this lmao.

I played on Veteran and didn't have much issue clearing this with only 3 lives, but I'd be lying if I said I enjoyed my time. Once the novelty wears off, I just want to get a move on, but nah, I'm barely even halfway through x)
It's that Kirby thing I hate where, suddenly, you go from a platformer to a space shooter for no other reason than "lol, cool". Not a fan of that, I bought a platformer for just that, not this! I wonder if we maybe could have gotten another actual level if they hadn't made this instead? If so... GRAH! xD
Oh man you got stage 5 for your solo run? I feel bad I got stage 3 for my solo.
The first time I played the final episode I got stage 1 for my solo so I actually did the solo ending first before the normal ending.

huh, why in your footage only Zangetsu weapons drop? When I did my solo (ultimate, casual\vet) run all the subs from all chars dropped, same for a few playthrought vids on yotube?
I literally didn't help any other character, I just went to the mission without them, went to alfred's clone, and then left on the mission.
you get the allies sub weapons because you used the ultimate mode zangetsu

@@ZeNewk no problem this game have nice little details a good one is when you beat the moon last boss zangetsu only but playing coop mode you cut the moon in X format
Create an entire game based only on this mode.
Or better yet someone hire this man to UPGRADE/UPDATE "The Guardian Legend" by Broderbund/IREM along with that dude responsible for AM2R Dr. Milton or whatever his name was!
