- GaMetal travels to the world of Octopath Traveler for this remix of the final boss theme, Daughter of the Dark God, featuring special guest vocalist Marie-Ève Ermel!
Octopath Traveler has really good music, doesn't it?
In the GaMetal 2019 Song Ballot, this game was tied for 3rd place for most requested new (to the channel) series. Thankfully for us, this song won a Patreon drawing a little while ago.
When it won, I got a message from a long-time Patron, Nicolas Daoust (who has a killer voice of his own!), telling me about his girlfriend Marie-Ève Ermel who can sing the hell out of operatic soprano, and that she loves this song and would be willing to try out if I was interested. Of course, I was, so they sent me a demo and only a few seconds in I knew she would be perfect for the part.
I've heard a lot of great songs from this soundtrack, so I'm sure I'll get back to it in the future. Till then, enjoy! :D

Ahhh, Octopath Traveler. The one JRPG that made me regret saying I wanted to fight Satan.

I still haven't grinded(ground?) enough to even beat the first phase

I know bro but is suppose to be that way because is a post game boss that is why you need all the main stories to be completed before this. I spend 3 hours of grinding and practicing so i can beat it and i was level 80 and still beat the crap out of me, this boss is at least level 90-100 to clean the floor with us at level 80 but when you beat it is awesome
After getting destroyed my first attempt, I think I grinded like 20 hours to stand a chance and it was a tough victory.
My focus? unparalleled
My blade? unbending

My sword is not the only thing that's unbending after listening to this cover.

I imagine Octopath Traveler will long be remembered as the JRPG that blurred the line between “true final boss” and “superboss”, because this fight is basically both, with all the difficulty that entails.
Either way, this game’s music is great. And it’s excellent that its time here has finally arrived.
Hopefully more games in the future have the superboss be the final boss

I dunno...while definitely hard, compared to some of the raw pain Square Enix makes you go through if you're a completionist, this was somewhat more tolerable. I thought that one dire wolf optional boss was harder than the second form.
But yes, good music. :)
IMHO the line isn't as blurred as you think. It's definitely more "Super boss" than "True Final Boss". Story wise it's more the latter but mechanics wise it's the former. Super Bosses are usually a true test of the player's skill so on top of it being a challenging fight it's also a puzzle. There's really only a couple of ways to clear the fight and the game punishes you, harshly, for attempting to win through a battle of attrition like you can do with any standard boss.

I just found this guy and I FUCKING LOVE this guy , his guitars make me hair stand up , and now you have a symphonic metal singer , you are giving symphonic metal bands a run for their money .

Will you do any covers for Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, or Ritual of the Night? Technically, they are newer games, but they are made in the retro Castlevania style.
It’s not like there’s a rule against newer games or anything. Egg Reverie, Star Dream, and Megalovania all came out relatively close to their games’ releases. Newer games are still perfectly eligible

This is the best ever. Considering it was played as the true final boss' theme for Octopath Traveler, it made the battle much more intense. This is just too good.

Props to the vocalist, one of the reasons I absolutely love this track (as well as The One They Call A Witch) is the opera vocals.

Galdera's body can be gimmicked way harder than its eye, so that may be the reason daughter of the dark god is shorter yet more intense than the one they call the witch

So just from reading the description alone, I’m super excited! I’ve never played Octopath and want to do so blind, so I’m not going to look at the screen and spoil myself for anything, but just seeing the reference to Nicolas Daoust excites me. I loved his Necrodancer covers and since you both give his girlfriend a mark of approval I’m totally looking forward to this!
EDIT: AUGH LATIN YES! I need to have subtitles on for this but that involves looking at the screen and I don’t want to see gameplay spoilers, no!
