I watched a few of your videos and I have to say your channel has moved me more than anything else I've watched on TH-cam. I grew up exploring, hiking, hunting, building. Your videos take me back and bring back the best memories of my childhood. Thank you.

Fantastic find. With very little work it could still be made livable. I was trying to see what the roof was made of and how it was constructed. I'm assuming it has a dirt floor. It would be interesting to do a little Archaeological digging if the ground thaws enough.
I'm thoroughly enjoying your videos. Your passion and enthusiasm for the forest is a great thing. I wish more people could experience it, especially kids. The best years of my life was when I had woods and forests to explore. I'm old and nearly bedridden now and I yearn for the forest and the night sky unpolluted by artificial light. You may find this weird, but I learned allot about nature by long observations of animals and insects in nature. I believe our decisions are more instinctual then most Social Scientist will admit.
Thank you for the great videos. They add a little joy to life.

from the pattern on the roof it looks like they used plastic as a mold. What else could have made that pattern ?? maybe paper but the wrinkles sure look like plastic which would mean it is not that old. The roof anyways. It would be neat for you to mark it on a geocaching site for others to find.

It looks like an old ice house or food storage of some sort. It seems that it would have been easier to build a log cabin in those times to live in and use the stone house for game and ice. I don't know for sure, but that is what it looks like to me. Cool find though! Look around and I would bet you will find old foundations for other structure around this house.

Elizabeth Gaspodnetich Thanks Elizabeth! I did end up finding the remnants of an old house nearby, so I'm sure the two structures were related.

OutsideFun1 Very cool! Back in the 80's I was quite the rock hunter and I found the remains of many an old cabin, homestead and other interesting things out in the middle of no place! I just wish I could have video taped my own adventures but alas, camera's back then were about the size of a microwave oven! Have fun out there and be safe!

Found your channel yesterday. I love the channel so far. Why I did not find it before now I have no idea. I search for a lot of the subjects you cover. Strange how that works.

It looks like it could have been a foundation cellar for an additional structure on top of it.

Cool you got my sub. Two things we know for sure about the builder. They took their time and laid those stones to last. And they were short.

Have you read Richard Thorton's ideas on the Maya? He writes about stone rooms that go down. The little window should be placed to act as a solstice indicator if it's a South American structure. I'm no expert but I've been all over old cabins in the SE US. None of them nor their foundations look like this.
Still having a ceiling is nothing short of spectacular! The black char inside is another clue. Good luck and please make a new vid if you come up with anything!

Cyndi Aiden I haven't heard of his work, but it sounds intriguing. If I find anything else out about the place I'll be sure to post another video. Thanks Cyndi.

It was a basement. Instead of a stone skirt around the cabin, like your cabin. This cabin probably burnt down leaving only the basement.

To bad you couldn’t build your cabin close by and make use of that stone building for your storage! Maybe your father and you could make that your next project near your cabin!
