While the Stoics practiced the art of memento mori-and knew that death was something that could randomly visit anyone, at any time-they still took pains to maintain their health. Marcus Aurelius’s doctor was Galen, one of the most famous physicians of antiquity, and presumably Marcus didn’t keep him around to shorten his life. No, he wanted to survive and be as healthy and strong as possible while he was alive. Seneca, for his part, flirted with vegetarianism, and his letters are filled with mentions of various cures he was seeking for his health. The sports metaphors in Epictetus and Marcus’s work also hint at the idea of active, strenuous lives.
Health is wealth. Taking care of yourself is important. What good can you do in this world if you feel like shit all the time? Or if you lack the physical and moral strength-or in George’s case, even the basic mobility-to be of good to anyone?
We are on this planet for a short amount of time. But if we practice bad habits, if we let our urges run wild, we will surely shorten that time. That’s not Stoic, that’s stupid.

I have been going for daily walks since 2008, usually 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour at night. It used to be that I walked to work but now I'm retired and still walking. It helps to have a dog. I've always said "I walk for my soul. My body just follows along."

I’m the same I’m big on walking, gives you time to be present, clear your mind, bit of exercise, and live a little instead of sitting in your home staring at the tv

For me, I found out I have high blood pressure. Instead of being put on pills and keep eating and drinking they way I was, I said to myself, " stop now and change".

Stoicism has honestly massively helped. I will always be a worrier but now i can compartmentalise the worry. My anxiety comes less often and i can control my thoughts in a way that is productive making my anxiety less severe. I have never been more calm or clear in all aspects of my life.
I have the daily stoic book, amazing. Thank you Ryan and thank god for the stoics.

Age , even if your in top shape , will bite you in the butt. Something or other will happen that will make you lower RPM. The next move is to know how to adapt and adjust to the fact that even though the young guy in your mind is itching to jump , the old guy outside has enough sense to take it easier. A tumble , a fall that leaves a sore mussel when young heals very quickly, not the same when your old ( 60 -80) The best thing to do when your young is to work at something you enjoy , that’s entertaining- that way you don’t think about retirement, Don’t worry it will catch up with you. Then if you reach old age , without being a nervous reck , you’ll find entertaining things to do. Work to live , do not live for work. DGP.

Is jumping a chapter becoming an intentional thing here on the daily stoic? I'm seeing a pattern here. Or Am I imaging seeing a pattern?

The people that I look up to will never be famous. They will never be remembered but they are the true super heroes. If Jeff Bezos gave all his money away now and lived a regular life, THAT would be impressive

Isn’t he young, with zero life experience, to be selling Stoic philosophy like deodorant? Whether it is good or not for others? It is like he has no ability to self-reflect and actually talk to real people.
