- In this episode, I share with you my thoughts on this 2000 JDM EK9 Honda Civic Type R. Using technology acquired from the success in F1 Racing and combining the advancements from the NSX-R and the DC2 Integra Type R, this EK9 is a product of the perfect Type-R formula. Sold exclusively to Japan, it is built with a completely bespoke engine made for the vehicle and many other unique features, the EK9 Civic Type R is a car in a league of its own.

New Zealand is the JDM buyer of Japan for the past 3 decades. You should try nz way more Japanese imports and rare models everywhere all over the country. They have had a trading relationship with Japan for quite a while. They have all the various R models of honda there including competing opposition branded models of that time.
I have an ek9 which I'm currently building back up. B18cR in it makes it even better and really compliments the ek9 chassis. Great review. Your enthusiasm is a feeling you have every time getting in the car.
Why not just wack a turbo on it instead of a engine swap, or supercharge it?
@@dlc85007 the b18c is already in it. I'm not for K as I don't like how it sits in an ek (yes I'm an idiot as i know the power figures) plus it's a fun little weekend car for me
@@zero9EK9 I had a clean EK4, sold it for $2,500, regretted it, I feel an EK9 would make up for it, but the prices now are pretty nutts, I wonder if I could find a cheap importer or try import one myself and save

The front end on these are double wishbones right? The EP3 then went to inferior macpherson strut setup.
The car is beautiful and I think it's fantastic that the ek9s are finally getting recognition. There iconic cars up there with the itr's.
For someone that this is their dream car. This is very achievable in a short period of time.

B型エンジンも良いけどシングルカムで130馬力出すD型エンジンやL型エンジンもまたホンダエンジンらしい楽しさ。

I am fascinated by this model and i am wondering if it can be suitable as a first car. I dont really like the the recent models n it doesnt suit my eyes but when i saw this just suited my taste.

I drove a couple of these back in the day. Great car, _fantastic_ chassis, but found the engine(although a marvel of engineering) too schizoid. Either dead or insane, but hard to keep it on the boil. The best one I drove had a B18c transplant and it transformed it IMHO. Oh and that chassis was actually seam welded in a few areas, unlike the Integra R which wasn't, though it seems every review/article claims they were.
Wasn’t the DC2R seam welded?
@@CollateralFatality It wasn't CF. It did get extra reinforcement in parts of the chassis, thicker steel and extra spot welds slright. The seam welding seems to be one of those things that got repeated until it became fact. Another one is the hand polishing of ports. Only the earliest B series engines for the R got that treatment until they got in machines to do it and they did a better and faster job. Because they were slow to make and were a separate production line both the EK9 and DC2 R's were loss makers for Honda so naturally they tried to reduce that over time.
Mine was a k24 swap with LSD. come drive mine.

Im not a car guy but i really like this car a lot. Can i possibly get an automatic version or is it disgraceful. Its not like im racing, just an everyday car.
Best civic type R ever built and the new version doesn't hold a candle to the EK9 LEGENDARY STATUS.

You should try the FD2R. It will run rings around the FN2R
