When NFS was actually a car enthusiasts game.
Now it's just a racing game with a soulless soundtrack, mediocre gameplay and personality that is tied to what is trending at this time. Heat instantly comes it mind, it's still an okay game overall but...
Road and Track - THE Need from speed (1994) from all the way to Hot pursuit 2 (2002) was the golden era of it that have it's own identity and charm put into it. The rest of the games are a hit or a miss for me! More misses in the 2010's by far.
@@haaxxx9 the game was built around showcasing the cars, not really around the story. In that sense, Forza Motorsport 4 was sort-of a spiritual successor to it when they introduced Forza Vista and Jeremy Clarkson's narration for each of the cars.
Or probably it hasn't react well to the progress of technology. In thoose years all games had crappy physics, but just 5 years later if there was a Porsche in a game, it should have handled as a Porsche. Instead, in the beloved NFSU some of the best driftcars are FWD
This game and NFS 3 were the pinnacle this series. After that the game became very arcadey and lackluster. You have a couple every now and then that are worthy games like Most Wanted and the Pro-Street title.
NFS II was already ultra arcade with fancy speeds and physics.
First game "The Need For Speed" was a great driving game for 1994-1996. Could even be called a simulator back then.
This game made me the car enthusiast that I am today. The Mclaren F1 is my favorite car in this game, and the reason I have a crippling BMW addiction (I've owned 7)

HA yes this goes for me too, I was 7 and supercars had totally become my passion since then, and regular cars too..... But that Ferrari F50 remains my favorite car ever till this day.
So nostalgic, the menu music, the explanation of the cars, the graphics. That GT90 still remains one of my favorite cars because of this game. Loved the blue rims and interior. Unfortunately it never came to be. And they had alerts of cars being along side of you back then! Also the XJ220 is a favorite to this day.
I know the GT-90 is the best car to date. Very sad that it never saw the light of day.

Ford Racing.
You should definitely check that out...had a whole series of them back in the day and was pretty fun.

Jaguar's intro has been one of the best in the NFS2 with one of the best metal riffs in the game.
Having played this all the time when I was 5 or so, I guess it makes sense why I'm so deep into Trance, hard Techno as an adult.

I remember having purchased this game back in 1999 at 17 years old and I thought wow what a graphics what an amazing cars. Music brings back alot of memories. I relive those days. Menu music is so calming. My favourite is of course the one for Ferrari 355. I wanna go back to 1999.

Still the best racing game ever made imho. Like others have said, back when it was about the cars and the race, not the bs. Every single thing about this game was amazing. The presentation of the cars, the slides, the videos, the play, and then the MUSIC! Been a guitar player and musician for over 40 years, and i swear this game had such an awesome music score! Every single bit of it, from the menu, videos, and course music. Nothing like it
The 90's NFS games treated cars like automotive royalty. They gave you every reason to respect each one of them and no game has captured that tone quite like it since.

I have yet to see any modern AAA racing game focus on a few iconic cars and give presentations like these on an up2date standard instead of flooding you with 500+ cars that individually mean nothing to you at some point.

NFS2 is (not was) ages ahead in its music composition and its immersion . This is how games should be. The music quality may not be there because of format restrictions but a renewed version of this should be made. This in game music of this game was insane and unparalled and can be a feeder to new forks in compositions.

My greatest hobby was to play the GT90 in this and try to beat the F1, but the F1 was always a bit faster. The two cars were so good but GT90 was easier to handle.

It still baffles me about the Ferrari F50 never made an appearance in the later racing games.

One of the more interesting cars in this game was the Italdesign Cala, a concept car that somehow never went into production.
Not properly strangely... behind the Calà, turinese dialect expression as Countach, there wasn't simply Italdesign, but Lamborghini.
The project of a babylambo has been pursuited for decades, until when german management managed to build the Gallardo. What do we could say? Are almost 20 years that Audi owns Lamborghini, but between '80s and '90s Lamborghini changed more often the ownership, surely this has had an impact in expensive project as the babylambo, that has also become the main product of bolognese factory

koenigsegg didnt exist say until 2002 when they produced their first car CC, which evolved into CC8S which later evolved into CCX which became the fastest car to dethrone the bugatti veyron and made its debut in the franchise since carbon as a bonus car
