How true - SpaceX pushing NASA to go fast, NASA pushing SpaceX to go safe. And Tim getting those two initially awkward and quiet guys to really loosen up, owning every moment. That really impressed me. I guess it's one of those skills you really have to master as a photographer. ;) Oooh, nice improvisation on the mic! I didn't notice any difference in your sound at all!

I like jim but he has some very questionable human rights opinions that leave me astounded as to how someone so intelligent and educated could be simultaneously so ignorant
When I saw Elon put his phone down prior to the interview, that immediately showed me he is giving you 100% undivided attention and wants zero interruptions.
I can remember subscribing when this weird guy went around in a Russian space suit talking about rockets and space. Now look where he's got to - interviewing Elon & Jim. And this is not the pinnacle of Tim's adventures. This is just the start. What's next - the first interview held on the Moon?
Same! Tim is one of the very best Space channels, I'm excited about this launch but I'm posting this because I'm REALLY happy that Tim got this special interview with two Titans of the 21st Century! Well done Tim!
Tim has a lot of “Space Cred” to have the access to interview these two guys. I’m here laughing how media from the world want these two guys, but a TH-camr has undeniable access to them and to pad 39-A.
With him Elon doesn't need to deal with annoying questions and people who have no idea about his ideals and current projects, I bet thats why a TH-camr is more welcome for an interview like this. Elon just dont want stupid journalists to ruin his vibe 👏
Been watching since live streams in a full spacesuit with 1000 viewers, now to interviewing Elon and Jim before a historic manned launch. Keep it up, Tim. You're doing the right things.
Elon putting his phone on the table behind them is the best thing I've seen. A guy like him putting things on hold to talk to Tim is awesome. Somehow I'm a fan of Elon even more now.
It may sound silly but someone like Elon doing that is a big Fing deal. It showed that he wanted no distractions from the interview and that Tim for those few minutes had his full, undivided attention. Which means mad respect from Elon.
Tim, I am so ecstatically happy for you. In your wildest dreams when you started this could you imagine the experience you just had. Let's aim big. I want to see you interview astronauts...ON THE ISS. FROM THE ISS. Dream big and thank you for all the wonder you bring to the world.
Love how even when he shot down your question he did it in a very nice way and still answered what the future direction of Space X and NASA will be in the future in another question
"The Everyday Astronaut: Bringing space down to Earth for everyday people." And that's just what you did in this interview! I felt like, "That's Tim. I practically know him. He's standing with and talking to Elon and Jim. Those guys now seem much more human and down-to-earth, too." Outstanding, Tim! Outstanding! You were there! You did it. You are us, and so we were there, too. No news reporter could do that, because they are not "our Tim...us, the everyday guy or gal." Thank you, Tim. The three of you spoke of the partnership between NASA and SpaceX, and that it is not NASA vs SpaceX. So my question is, what is the relationship between NASA, Crew Dragon and Boeing's Starliner? Is Starliner in competition with Crew Dragon for future contracts...is it one or the other, winner take all? Or is there a plan to utilize both? And if so, will one spacecraft be used more equally than the other? :) Or will it just play out, and NASA will see which works better vs costs, down the road?
One Question is already answered. They are using both Crew Dragon and Starliner for redundancy and reliability. So that they always have a System thats is ready to bring Crew to the ISS, you can read that in many Articels in the Web. So there is no crew dragon vs starliner. Example, Falcon 9 had a Static Fire failure in 2016 and they had to put down the whole System 5 Months. So in that 5 Months Spacex was not capable of sending something to the space with Falcon 9. For this case, Nasa has the Starliner to close that Gap. They planned initaly 3 Crew-Capsule to have even more Redudancy.
That is what's so great about Elon. He doesn't care one bit about politics. He only goes like okey, who has what i need to accomplish my goal. Ah! The russians have good rockets, let's give Putin a call. His trust in humanity as a whole is borderline naive. An absolute nutjob but one hell of inspiration to all of us
SPECTRE were idiots. Or Mr Osato if it was developed by Osato Chemicals. Bird One could have easily been upgraded into a fully re-usable launch system that with it's existing upper stage could have delivered cargo or crew to orbit. They'd solved the big problem of recovering the upper stage and precision landing, so recovering the lower stage would have been far easier, given the additiuonal infrastructure of a landing pad downrange. Extend the length of the first stage by 50%, and add two more engines at right angles to the existing two edge mounted motors and it could have carried around 5 tons in it's nose mounted payload bay. Remove the crew section and you could probably bump that to 10 tons. Or replace the payload bay with a pressurised cabin and you could transport a dozen passengers to and from orbit. There might even be enough volume to use it as a short term space station for a couple of astronauts.

Tim is probably one of the best spaceflight journalists out there, and especially when it comes to covering SpaceX and interviewing Elon Musk. It's obvious he enjoys being interviewed by him, and who wouldn't? So knowledgable about everything from the history of spaceflight to the cutting edge design of SpaceX. He makes an interview with Elon Musk into a nerd out about space or just a casual conversation about the coolest stuff on earth (or in space). Yep. With Tim, the truth reaches the viewers. With the Mainstream Brainwashers, the truth is filtered through the NWO and is attached to Gullible Man-made Climate Hoaxism.
My estimation of Elon just went up several notches. Almost the first thing he does on entering the room is take out his phone, switch it to silent and then put it aside.
the guy also transformed banking, automobiles, energy production/storage, and rocketry. but yeah, silencing his phone has gotta be his most impressive achievement yet. lol

19:25 This also shows the new era in 'news' and information exchange. A couple nerds with two cameras and some iphone earbuds can quickly produce a more interesting interview than most of the mainstream media out there. Not to mention undoubtedly reaching more young minds out there, inspiring them to watch a historical astronaut rocket launch.
Also I feel Elon is genuinely more interested in this conversation and and he’s really comfortable and talking and being himself compared to many other interviews when he just awkwardly laughs. The interviewer asks quite many interesting questions in this interview that are different from other usual invertierest with mainstream media too
Depends on what you consider as interesting. This right here wasn't an interview, it was a conversation about how awesome this whole mission and relationship is. That is nothing which wasn't covered by the mainstream media. This conversation had no informational value at all.
Watched this after the 8/4/2020 Starship SN-5 hop. Elon Musk is a fascinating man, his mind races along while the rest of us just plod along. I've noticed that Elon really enjoys talking to and with people who do their homework, are knowledgeable, fair, and very receptive to what he has to say. Brilliant people don't suffer fools lightly. But Tim's exuberance, intelligence, and honesty appeals to Elon and this is why Tim lands this and other interviews. Many reporters exploit interviewees for gain, but Tim has facts and a sincere desire to learn and promote the cool things SpaceX (and NASA) are working towards accomplishing. As a boy I dreamed of men reaching the moon, I saw it live! Now I dream of mankind reaching Mars!!!
A few months ago, Elon said in an interview with The Third Row, that he thought you knew your subject well. This interview is a good sign of confidence on the part of a man who is not easy to impress. Congratulations!
Collin Mayrand Did I say that? 😀 Still waiting for Bob and Doug to return to Crew Dragon from the ISS, to find Software Update Available on the craft screens.
Amazing to see how far this channel has come. The access to the people you’ve interviewed/spoken to is amazing and it’s one of the best TH-cam channels.
Everything Jim says is just pure gold for anyone interested in the basic principles of public-private partnership that is keeping SpaceX on track for Mars and NASA viable as a public institution. Whenever a man like Jim uses words like "new era", one should pay attention. Tim isn't meeting rocket engineer Musk here. He's meeting two leaders of their respective organizations which are in symbiotic relationship, and if a mission goes to h***, they're in it together. Tim was caught off-guard by Jim's presence and still manages to engage them on their mutual interest. There was perhaps a bit more on offer here had Tim been more prepared, but frankly it's ridiculous he even got there to film this amazing video.
I enjoyed the fact that this was my favorite interview of the two executives discussing the first privatized commercial space launch with human in it, and it was done with a phone and basic equipment compared to the mass media high budget interviews that only last for a couple of minutes.
Very impressed by Birdenstine honestly, he seems to be really passionate about the mission and I think he really understands how trans formative Spacex can be.
Significantly better format than having Birdenstine in front of a mic speaching about the mission. The interaction between the two of them was very timely and exciting.
Really unusual ballsiness from an administrator of a huge huge program. He knows that it isn't an easy transition but also knows that history is on his side.
It seems he has a vision and drive that can advance space exploration by giant leaps. In my eyes he's absolutely the best man for the job. I really love how SpaceX and NASA are, and will be better together than alone. As an added bonus there's Boeing at least trying to compete. I think they too need to take a couple (of hundreds) of pages from SpaceX's playbook so us citizens can enjoy even faster advancement in science, development and exploration.
The fact that Musk and Bridenstine give you an exclusive interview when every network around the world is vying for their attention? That's serious street cred, my man.

How true - SpaceX pushing NASA to go fast, NASA pushing SpaceX to go safe. And Tim getting those two initially awkward and quiet guys to really loosen up, owning every moment. That really impressed me. I guess it's one of those skills you really have to master as a photographer. ;)
Oooh, nice improvisation on the mic! I didn't notice any difference in your sound at all!
Yes - it was a really good interview. Better than post ride to ISS interview scheduled by NASA

I really like Jim. Like right here, he's admitting why Nasa is slow and SpaceX is fast in rocket development. I don't know what is people's problem.
The truth is - the politicians are dirty and steel tax dollars by maximizing expenses. It is in their interest to waste tax dollars and maximize their cut.
Spacex is fast because they skip the “how to build rocket” tutorial!
I don't understand the problem either
He is such a well spoken person.
Props to NASA's Jim Bridenstein for sticking to the big picture! Regardless of politics, he does this very well.

Tims sucess on youtube is crazy, and like you said it's only just getting started.
Tim is successful, but he knows to little for my taste. Scott Manley is my favorite space guy with a lot more knowledge.
8:41: "Whether that comes from an intern or me or anyone. It doesn't matter." Love that.
That really show his great leadership within SpaceX
The guy is 24/7, tough boss, expects 100%,it's starts from the top.
Tim has a lot of “Space Cred” to have the access to interview these two guys. I’m here laughing how media from the world want these two guys, but a TH-camr has undeniable access to them and to pad 39-A.
Right before launch
With him Elon doesn't need to deal with annoying questions and people who have no idea about his ideals and current projects, I bet thats why a TH-camr is more welcome for an interview like this. Elon just dont want stupid journalists to ruin his vibe 👏

Elon putting his phone on the table behind them is the best thing I've seen. A guy like him putting things on hold to talk to Tim is awesome. Somehow I'm a fan of Elon even more now.
I noticed that too and felt the same way :D
It may sound silly but someone like Elon doing that is a big Fing deal. It showed that he wanted no distractions from the interview and that Tim for those few minutes had his full, undivided attention. Which means mad respect from Elon.
The guy from NASA spoke beautifully ,so polished and poetic .They were both really genuine .

Replying from ~2 years later: Tim Dodd *to the Moon!*
Love how even when he shot down your question he did it in a very nice way and still answered what the future direction of Space X and NASA will be in the future in another question
Agreed, and I also love that he left that in the video, it makes the whole interview seem more honest & open.
When I saw Tim's selfie with Elon and Jim, the word "Levels" came into my head.
When you are passionate about something doesn't matter if you have or not fancy camera or setup. Everyday Astronaut is a great inspiration.
Jim got a lot of heat when he was appointed, but he's a great speaker, motivator, and advocate for space. He's done a great job as administrator.

@@xordus it takes someone who's a great leader and has respect and a understanding of details to be able to do such things. But you seriously will never understand that
19:25 This also shows the new era in 'news' and information exchange.
The interviewer asks quite many interesting questions in this interview that are different from other usual invertierest with mainstream media too
A couple of nerds on a budget - that describes the creators and inventors and so much fantastic stuff. :)
