I'm so glad everyone can take a peak into what SpaceX is working on and get inspired in their own ways to pursue their dreams. Looking forward to seeing more interviews, and fingers crossed for the orbital launch!
So cool to see where they were just 2 yrs ago. It's wild to think they had a shorter schedule in mind. Late by SpaceX standards is impossibly early by any other organization.
These perspectives are not very different. Failure is a possible outcome, but not an option. It is something that might happen, but it is not something you are willing to choose. Gene Krantz's creed comes from a time when NASA took its mission seriously. It never meant "we won't do anything that might fail", it means "we will not accept failure until we have exhausted all options". Elon's version implicitly accepts that failure is possible, even likely.

Elon who payed less taxes than the bottom tax bracket and complains about HRC wanting to increase tax on billionaires even though Telsa and SpaceX were born and still to this day rely on heavy government subsidies and contracts which are only possible because of tax revenue. @@XBarFighterX LOL, experience and courage from old engineers of ULA and Boeing doesn't help. Young engineers on SpaceX proved it by Falcon rockets and Dragon capsules. If you think experience is so superior over talent or creativity, you should apply and work for Japanese companies like Sharp, Toshiba, etc. They're dying af.
Agreed. When seeing many videos from Boeing, ULA, etc, seeing a lot of old engineers and operators (most of them are over 45 years old or olders). "At SpaceX we specialize in converting things from 'impossible' to 'late'." Might be both one of the funniest and also coolest things Elon has said in person.

Tim, I have to acknowledge how you have avoided making videos with that "look at what I've done" tone that other TH-camrs might have gone for and kept these interview videos focused on what Elon and SpaceX are doing. There's neither forced humbleness nor self gravitas, just wonderful insight and information.
Standing below that tower is one of the most awe-inspiring things I've ever seen. The sheer scale, and the fact that the Starship is at that scale as well. Brings the whole thing into perspective.
I am looking forward to watching at least one launch. I missed the Shuttle, I hope to at least see one of these and Artemis go up. Artemis is the Equivalent of a 21st Century Saturn V.
Congrats to your growth too Tim. From little self-made videos about rockets to multiple personal interviews with Elon, Beck, and others your channel has come a long way.

At the top, first thing that everyone did was take in the view. Elon then takes his phone out and videos the view. Unlike other people in his position, he is genuinely excited about the work. Stupid idea and he cannot do it. Hyperloop? Never even close. Tesla robots? Really…do you believe that one? The worst of all is how people seriously believe he does this for the good of humanity…Elon cares about 2 things: himself, and his money.
I like how starship also has short term goal and deadline in taking starlink 2 to orbit; it really helps keep everyone focussed on stepping stones to get it working and not feel the big goal of space travel to Mars is too far out of reach. Interesting how they’ve bet the launch delivery mechanism of starlink 2 on starship - there’s no back up of falcon 9. Starship has to work.
I'd love a Falcon9 back up for an audacious Mars Dragon. Elon would probably say that's a daft idea, but I'd prefer to traverse Mars by Dragon, as opposed to the Cybertruk
when i hear "it's the most X in my entire life" i always wonder how old is the person. If the person is a kid, then it wouldn't be as nearly really awesome as if he was an old person. General criticism apart, this launch is indeed a huge feat for mankind.
Thanks Tim. Even on dark days, we can remember that the first human to step onto Mars is already alive. We just don't know who it is, yet. I'm convinced you'll see it happen.

I wouldn't call him down to earth. He's awkward and kooky. You can tell how uncomfortable he is just having a normal conversation with someone. His two handlers are also on the spectrum - the one guy smiles inappropriately all the time like the joker, the other seems afraid to open his mouth.

every time i listen to this man and the crew i am fascinated by his "out of the box" thoughts very much. I mean how far can you create the future today. Unbelievable. He has been thinking and acting so many steps ahead for years.
I really like the quiet times in this, watching Elon be amazed at the work he has done is really special. That sounds weak but I don't know what else to call it this is really special.
It really is special. People who don't think it is do not have full comprehension of what Elon and his SpaceX teams have accomplished. In a world where getting out of bed and not complaining is an achievement, what SpaceX is doing and has done feels to me as grand as creating an entirely new planet from scratch.
"success is a possibility, the probability is uncertain, but it's above 0" this is exactly why Musk doesn't want to take SpaceX public. Imagine saying that to share holders.
Stock market ruined many successful companies because the general public and the fund managers are too dumb to understand what was that company’s intention on it sets out to achieve, Space X is much better be private than public
This is so weird seeing such rockets without military personnel and guns all around, more than that there are only nerds there, its like a major science project they had
It is incredible to think that all they could see, only a year or two ago, it was just an idea in somebody's mind. All the hours of discussion, researching, design , redesigning, engineering, building , rebuilding . What an incredible team of people believing they can make the impossible ....possible .
This is all reminiscent of the early days of space flight: stretching our imagination and capabilities. I genuinely wish Elon and the SpaceX team all the best and continued success. Very exciting times!
@@Bramon83 Apologies, as I should have better framed my comment. Given that by the time the early days of spaceflight were occurring we had already had Von Braun working with missiles/rockets almost two decades prior. That's also not bringing in to consideration Goddard's research nor the Chinese, who had first used rockets in anger in the 13th century. The developments for the late 50s and early 60s were to make use of what had been a strictly military weapon to transport humans out of the confines of the earth's atmosphere. My comment only meant to compare/contrast the historical precedent that Elon and SpaceX are involved in with that of the early manned spaceflight developments. Granted, Elon and SpaceX are indeed standing of the shoulders of giants, however, the departure of the norms that were now see as being a regular thing (vertical landing of spacecraft, as in Falcon 9 and the successful test landing of Starship) are quite breathtaking nevertheless. Quite like the early days of manned spaceflight
@@Bramon83 To be fair the original space race had the entire nations support behind it and a unlimited budget, where space x has a lot of government red tape getting in the way and slowing it down.
I can hardly believe that this is real. Catching a rocket seems so insane but the engineering must say it can be done. I remember when landing the rockets was considered insane, now its just normal. Even Elon thinks its unbelievable.
I can see it, it's a logical idea. However, the more moving parts there are, the more likely it is to fail... Moreover, to have the courage to design & build it 💪 is awsome - personally, I believe it has a good chance of success 🚀 Atb Gus 👍

Americans have been literally making history since the inception of our nation. Automobiles, airplanes, petroleum, the assembly line process, mass production, nuclear energy, basically the entire modern world that we all live in. ( You're welcome, from America) Elon and his team are continuing this trend with the most cutting edge inovations and engineering. The likes the world has never seen. It blows my mind that people still don't beleive we went to the moon when footage like this exists. To say that all this work, all these people, is just to create an illaborate illusion is insane.
When I watch your conversations with Musk, I am reminded of the contrast from all the secrecy these subjects have been held in historically. Nasa or Boeing would not invite you to an Internet conversation about their progress. Bravo
That shot at 0:50 blew my mind . It’s like the first shot of a video game sequence. Or a dream or a nightmare. Whatever it is , it’s out of this world. You hear one of the engineers in the video say that they were discussing things and Elon said, "Let's just delete the legs," and the engineer though about it and decided, "Oh, he's serious. Of course, let's just delete the legs." Elon has been the main driver for most of their important innovations and big ides. He's uses engineers to work out the details. But, people have also reported that he will listen to everyone and take any good ideas from anyone at any level.
That comet that hit Jupiter and created a 'hole' the size of Earth is scary stuff. It's incredible no one talked about it before. Yes, I support the idea of humanity becoming multi-planetary. That doesn't mean we stop caring about Earth; it's not a zero-sum game as Elon puts it.
Overall, this is a great interview. Kudos to Tim Dodd
What do you mean no-one has talked about it before? It happened in 1994 and was well documented and discussed for many years.
People interested in space knows about the comet that hit Jupiter...
@@justinsmith4562 I think he means that every day person doesnt know about it and that is because it is not being discussed by the mediums that the everyday person uses.
