Really cool to see the R35 next to the 2C
R35 had really one flaw.... if you took a full speed hard right turn the track on the left side would pop off over the forward idler so in 1938 they revised this by setting the forward idler sprocket about one foot forward further and that stopped the track from coming off.... but the retrofitting had only been going on for about 6 to 9 months when World War 2 started ....there's a lot of pictures in the beginning of the French- German conflict were a lot of tanks with the left track off this happened to quite a few vehicles that were not retrofitted with the new parts.

@@dr.pop2562 You're quite welcome. I was lucky enough when I worked in the United Nations to meet an old French mechanic he worked on many French and German vehicles . We had an R35 at our Museum in Belgium in Herstal also along with other German Belgian and French vehicles

@@dr.pop2562 No it had a broken drive train from an over zealous driver who put it into a ditch when the Germans took Herstal

The irony is that captured R35s was far more widely used by the Germans and their allies in WW2 than by the French.
The R35 is my favourite French Tank.
It wasn't a really good tank (mobility and armament was crap) but it sure look great
@@stalinemdr2797 I'd argue it was less the tank and more the doctrine. It was ingenious by the standards of WW1, but WW2 was a very different war and the French took way too long to see this.

In starting of 2nd world war France tanks were more progressives than German tanks but they were not protecting by France sufficient aircrafts so German stuka destroying them from sky too nice video

French tanks were better but the French completely misused them and were prepared to use them like in 1918.
By better I mean in theory as Edoardo said. German tanks struggled to knock out French ones during the invasion but it didn't matter because the Germans were on a whole other level when it came to organized operations.

S'ils avaient été utilisés pour ce qu'ils ont été conçus, c'est à dire appuyer l'infanterie ils auraient été bons dans leur rôles (c'est pourquoi ils étaient aussi lents d'ailleurs...)
Bref dans l'idéal il aurait fallu envoyer uniquement les B1 bis, Somua et peu connus D2 contre les Panzers :/
M'enfin la défaite n'était pas seulement due à cela ^^
