HI Y’ALL! SUPER IMPORTANT NOTE: it occurred to me after the fact that the shift boot and knob won’t work for those of you who don’t have the Ecru or Sepia interior as the stitching on the knob and boot are color-matched to the interior. So if you have Rioja red or black, please check with your dealer to find the right shift knob and boot. You’ll need to find the shift knob with the CHROME finish and matching color stitching!
Josh Love your site and input. In addition we both share a love for fine timepieces. Once I started hearing rumors regarding the new GX spec changes (V6 turbo etc) I purchased two new 2023 GX460s. Both are platinum plus and just as you they put a smile on my face every time I get behind the wheel. May I inquire as to where you purchased your window switch plates and old school shift knob? My local dealership quoted me a considerably higher price. Both my 460s have a sepia interior w/saple wood trim. Keep up the great work. Cheers Gunner Atlanta GA
@gerardgunhouse397 Gunner there is a screenshot in the video around half way in one of the text messages, mentioning Prestige in NJ. They have 17% or so discount on top of the reduced price and free shipping over $100 at present.
@gerardgunhouse397 Yes to what Blue’s Fox Pics stated. But you can also throw the part numbers into Google and it’ll pull up all the various dealers who have the part(s) and you can find the lowest price. Dealers are always doing sales and discounts that could make any one cheaper than another on any given day.
@malifestro3319 I think the Mark Levinson is absolutely worth it, and no it didn’t come on Nori green because that was a color exclusive to the Blackline which was based on the 460 base model (though it included a 360-cam)
@@malifestro3319 I don't have a Nori Green...I do have almost every option on my 2023 luxury model and I love it. But...if I could go back and do it all over again knowing what I know now, I'd get a blackline Nori Green. If the sound system wasn't to my liking I'd upgrade a few components.
Josh, your GX content is the absolute best on YT and I hope you continue to do more! Another upgrade are the sports (garnet/scarlet) tailights, they’re definitely the safer version in inclement weather, and LED bulbs (hard to find in incandescent yellow to look great with Ecru) It’s kinda hard to apply concealer with the stock vanity lights so upgrading the vanity lights to LED anything is a must and extremely easy. Upgrading the rocker panel lights to a brighter bulb makes it even better at night. All bulbs are size 194. If you want to be kosher Phillips sells them on Amazon, and Auxito is also a great option.
Hello, and thank you! I intend to keep this car for a long, long time so there will definitely be more to come! As for the lighting, I’ve thought about it! But personally I love the way the incandescent lights look with the Ecru interior. That said, if I can find quality soft white LED lights I’d definitely upgrade. I’ve also thought about the scarlet twilights and I go back and forth on it. If I had a white or atomic silver GX, I’d absolutely do it, but the clear ones look better on black to me… not sure why! Could be that I have a real soft spot for the era where Toyota was putting Altezza lights on all their cars and so I’ve kept my clear lenses for now… but I may swap them out in the future!!!
Changing out those pieces made a huge difference bringing back a fuller luxury appearance. You did a great job explaining the process….super easy installation.
Hi! I am watching every video I can find on the GX 460. I have one being shipped to my state and it should be arriving this week!! I am beyond excited! I have been in cancer treatment for the past three months and this is my gift to myself. I cannot wait! Thank you for your in depth review. It has solidified my choice even more. 😊 stay blessed.
I Pity the fool who trades in the 460 for a 550. Love the luxurious upgrades. The wood is soooo smooth, you'll be touching it while driving. Maybe if you're lucky you'll catch your passengers touching it for the lux of it as well. Keep your eye's out for it. It will happen. Like you said, you've got at least 50 years to catch it happening. Great lux mod, beautiful.
Hahaha it’s like you ride in the car with me and know exactly what I do! I completely agree, though, it’s just a thing of beauty. Like the finest old surf board or beautiful grand piano.
These switch bezels are insanely expensive for what they are😢 I ended up replacing shift knob/boot and only front ones, I don't look at them in the rear so I can save some money . The best visual improvements I have made so far, now it looks even more like a true old school lexus. Love it! Thank you for a tip buddy!
I will say your videos did help us to make up our mind, we are falling in love with our slightly used GX460. We chose it over a new and fun 4runner, no regrets.
@@joshjamescars yeah, we connected with your sensibility. I should have stopped the video early though; I ‘was’ blissfully ignorant about the plastic window button panels. Haha
Love it Josh! I’ll be a year in with my 23’ GX in September. Time definitely flys. I got 7100 miles and counting. Love my GX, like you I’ll have it forever 😀
I'm 43, and I just bought a 2016 GX460. I've been looking at these SUVs for years after being 'responsible' by only driving used camrys and an 06 highlander until it literally fell apart. This is the first time in my life I am excited to drive a car I own. I'll be picking it up hopefully by the end of the month- bought it free and clear. Good luck to you sir, and I hope you get a shot at owning one too.
Thank you Josh for this video! I purchased all of the items you discussed and just installed them on my 2022 GX. They look fantastic. I briefly owned a 2021 GX last year (long story) and I was shocked when I realized the window switch bezels had been changed to cheap black plastic for the 2022 and 2023 models. I'm so happy to be able to have the nice wood again!
Thank you for the update video! I didn’t know about the cheap out pieces on my 2023 Gx! I ordered the window bezels, installed them recently and now so beautiful now!
Hi Josh, Love the the updates. I ordered the parts a little over a month ago and was initially told all parts were on back order and estimated arrival was October. Good News though…seems like orders are arriving faster than originally estimated and I’ve received and installed all the parts and my 2022 Premium Plus looks amazing! Thanks again for the video.
Our 23 GX is one year old (in 10 days) too! We're driving down to Santa Barbara to get it's free service today even though it only has 3,500 miles on it (we've been traveling a lot). I absolutely love the car and agree with everything you said. We also got 21 +/- mpg on the highway which I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't notice the trim issues like you did so I hope I can get that part of your video out of my head for financial reasons. I have 40 years on you so I fully expect this car to be handed down to our son-in-law who tricked out his 99 Landcruiser and will probably do the same to this car. And I'm fine with that. Finally, (9:12) well I do!
Haha!! Sounds like we’ve been living the same life! Mine had about 3,500 miles on it as well but we’ve been on a road trip and by the time we get home it should have around 7,000 on it. Also, your son in law is one lucky guy!! To have a 100-series Land Cruiser and one day have your GX460. Between the two, he may never need a new car!
21 GX premium plus Bought the shift boot and shift knob bc of this video. Such a stark difference. Good timing as Lexus has 17.76% off all parts and accessories right now. Thanks for the video.
You got me at first! I actually said "what the heck?!" out loud. Still debating between a 1985 Mercedes 300TD wagon and a GX460. The way cars should be made!!
Yup. Totally agree. I paid full sticker a year ago for my 23 and though I know others got a great deal, it's still a solid value, especially when comparing to the new GX550
Honestly even sticker was a steal compared to current pricing of Toyota’s trucks. I didn’t get a huge discount but I’m so happy with how little I paid relative to the new GX and most new Toyota products.
I recently bought a 2004 Lexus RX330 with 148,000 mi on it to go along with my 2009 GS350 with 143,000 mi on it that I bought 5 years ago. I love that RX it rides like a brand new car for $6,000 with a couple of thousand put in to get it in perfect condition. I put 3000 miles a year on each car they will definitely outlive me.
Hey Josh, I sort of took your advice before you gave it (back to the future style) and purchased my 2019 GX last year. I ended up getting a low mileage loaded Luxury with Driver assist for under $45k. It was outside my original budget, but boy I feel like I made a great decision now. Best vehicle I have ever owned. I’m a fan of the older front end grill, and had no idea Lexus began to cheapen the interior (in certain ways) until I saw this. Nice job with your upgrades! I love the wood/aluminum details in the panels you got. 🔥
Wow!! You definitely got a deal there. I’m with you on the older grille. I wish they’d kept it more similar to the older one… I’ve gotten used to it, but the older one looks more Lexus.
Completed the shift knob and shift boot upgrade. Night and day difference. Sooooo much better. Downside is parts we’re back ordered from Japan. Arrived 4 weeks after order. Thanks for the clever upgrade.
Thank you for the video and part numbers for the Window switch bezels. The Lexus parts site had a good sale plus free shipping. Just swapped out all the switch bezels on my 2022 and wow what nice difference. Sad they never included them on the 22 and 23.
You had me for a second. I agree the price I paid for my '23 GX was a steal for what I got when compared to what else was available. I've had my '23 for 7 months and love it more every day. Now I just have to avoid looking at the crappy trim around the window switches and the gear shift knob.
Thanks for the tip with the shifter! Ironically my wife scratched the top of the plastic one a few days ago and this mod is perfect timing. Looking forward to the updated (fittingly Lexus/Toyota trend with older and better quality ) shifter set, just ordered. . The GX is highly versatile and underrated for its sense of safety especially in the snow/rain/mud conditions. Using it to tow boats again tomorrow and does so very reasonably for an SUV (mostly flat roads). Keep up the entertaining and knowledgeable content.
Yes! Fantastic! Please do note that the shifter parts mentioned in the video are specific to the Ecru and Sepia interior. And I could not agree more about the GX’s understated sense of safety. We’ve been doing an interstate road trip and there’s no other vehicle I’d want to be driving on the road than the GX.
GX460 drives very nice. It feels like you're driving close to the road and feel solidly roll over the asphalt. It makes you want to drive it more and more.
You make me laugh! You talked me out of wanting the new one and then I started researching and really started liking the last year model 2021 of the LX 570..
A round rock subscriber here Wow! Such a cool upgrade!! I'm in the market for a luxury one. I will definitely do this upgrade in due time. Thanks so much for a great review.👍
Terrific! And hello, neighbor! I’d recommend you test drive both a Premium Plus and the Luxury. When I bought and I did that back to back I preferred the ride of the Premium Plus without the air suspension and adaptive suspension.
Lol you almost had me 😂 Great commentary on your Love for your GX. I can definitely relate to your passion for your vehicle. Thanks for the modification. I’m definitely gonna get the wood for the window switches. My 2020 GX seems to be just a bit more luxurious than my 2022 because of the extra wood trim. For the life of me don’t understand why Lexus did not carry the wood through to the 2022s. Keep up the good work I will stay tuned.
Right!? Especially having both I’m sure the difference is even more noticeable. I look at pics from before making the modifications and it’s crazy what a big difference it is.
I didn’t believe it for a minute!!!! 😂😂😂cuz I have a 2024 GX too (Thanks to your reviews) and I will NEVER trade my gorgeous Premium Plus. I have a silver one with black interior and my kids call it “Mom’s Razor Crest” ❤ Gotta look into the upgrades…I want headrest video screens & a DVD player. We use mostly analog for entertainment on the road. Have a great weekend!!!! Jen
I love that name!!! It makes me think of the original ad for the GX when it came out in 2010 (linked below)! Also the headrest DVD system would be super interesting to see if you could do! Let me know if you figure that one out! th-cam.com/video/6ichp2d24QQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=LkB2BsXIvHuVWR0G
Thank you for the update! So true on how and why people are spending so much on the new Toyota SUV’s especially in this economy where the US dollar isn’t going as far as it did a 3-5 years ago.
Can't wait when my current lease is up and picking up one of these 22 or 23 460s, I've made a deposit for the GX550 but more I think about it the more I leans towards 460, the 30k difference doesn't make up the 'upgrade'.
Yep! IMO the GX550 and new Land Cruiser both need a few years worth of refinement and improvement. But to your point, the price alone is hard to justify.
Now that is the kind of mod I can get behind - returning the truck to the way it was and should be. When I got my limited 4runner I wanted to do all kinds of mods. After 4 years of driving it and living with it I really appreciate its stock form. I love this rig more than ever. I did change the interior lighting but that's it! I can appreciate modding a vehicle but there is something to be said for keeping it the way the engineers intended. Modding introduces all kinds of potential extra issues such as changing the suspension geometry or having to regear the transmission with larger tires. Good luck on your GX journey and I will keep on watching.
@FatalAnimal Could not agree more and I actually did the same thing with my 4Runner as you did! Kept everything stock except for changing out the interior lights to LEDs!
@@joshjamescars I had these parts in my cart for a week and the Lexus badge for the barn door and pulled the triigger tonight. Your costing me money. I am going to have to unsubscribe from you now. haha jk Thanks for the videos. Cant wait to get mine installed.
Hi Josh! You had me for a moment. I must admit there were some cost cutting on material used on the newer models. I felt they could have used a better quality speaker cover for the Mark Levinson sound system on my 2022 GX. I didn’t notice the gear shifter until you mentioned it this video, so I checked. We also have a 2019 RX 450H that has the same shifter. I also had always admired the GX that’s why I decided to purchase it. I’ll say it again and again my 2005 RX 330 is a Lexus luxury legacy. Some people don’t believe that a vehicle that is about to turn 20 years old has a back up camera, integrated phone system with illuminating door sills. The gear shifter is wood. The leather seats are showing signs of wear but they heat up like a massage unlike the newer models. I think Covid also comes in to play with access to quality of products. The trailer attachment was not available in 2022 which was a bummer the vehicle should have been equipped with it. Go figure.
Hi Joann! Yes, could not agree more about the RX330. That and the RX350 that followed it in 2008 I think were always my favorite two RXs. And I agree about the speaker covers! They should be more premium for the Mark Levinson system. Or branded at least. As for the trailer hitch, I think you may be able to add that on after the fact… don’t quote me on that but I think it’s possible.
Same here. Apparently these parts are completely sold out nationwide and are being made to order as there isn't any inventory. My order is supposed to arrive in October as well.
It is difficult buy non-asian cars. Asian manufacturers right now seem to be the only region that still give a damn about quality and craft. At present, I'm looking at a Nissan Frontier, and while it is in no way a legacy Lexus product, it is well made and will last a long time. Thank you for sharing your experience, Josh.
Please josh if you can share a link to buy the parts you replaced, will appreciate . Thank you for sharing your experience with that awesome improvement you,'ve done.
Your best bet is to google the part numbers and find the dealer that has the cheapest price. You’ll need to add all the parts to your cart separately; copy and paste each part from the description of this video!
Like you, I have had my 2022 GX for a year now. Your mileage and mine seem to match, and on flat interstate up to 80mph 20.8 is normal. I have seen much improvement dropping to say 70mph. The upgrade you made look nice, but I am not quite sure it’s worth the $1,200. For me there are a few dislikes with this SUV. The primary is that the driver and passenger seat does have a quite hard seat bottom that fatigues my rear end. I think the seat heat/cooling is maybe to blame, but I wish there was 1” more memory foam underneath the seat-cover. Wireless apple car play would be nice and I am thinking of adding that. Other gripe is that I wish you could have ordered a 3rd seat delete. I really don’t use it and would much prefer the additional storage. Final gripe, I wish Lexus would have designed it for regular unleaded instead of premium. 50 cent per gallon saving over a lifetime in this SUV makes a big difference. That being said, the build quality is outstanding and I recently compared it to a new GX550 which has a really cheap feeling interior.
I completely agree about the third row-I haven’t opened mine once in the year I’ve had it. That said, I have owned other SUVs with a third row and when you need it, it can make the difference between taking one car and two. So I don’t mind it since it stows away completely. Also, you have to really care about the wood trim and old shift lever the way I do for the upgrade to be worth the money and not everyone does the way I do.
Thank you @joshjamescars! I already screenshot the part numbers. Actually the other thing GX dropped from 2020 is the passenger side auto dimming mirror, on the older GX models both sides are like the mirror now can only be found on the driver side. It would be greatly appreciated if you could also upload a video on replacing the passenger side mirror with an auto dimming one . I read one thread from Reddit that one GXOR actually did this but lack of instructions. Thanks awesome video!
Hello! Personally I don’t have a problem with that so I don’t think I’ll be messing with that on mine… or if I do I’d have a dealer do it since I imagine it will involve wiring which is definitely not something I want to mess with myself on a brand new car. 😅
Have you had kdss lean? Our brand new 23 Luxury had it as soon as we got it. Dealer supposedly did the factory fix (driver front coil spring replacement) and now at 9000 miles, it’s still leaning to the passenger side.
I have not, fortunately. I’ve been told from other viewers it happens more with the Luxury trim because of the more complex air suspension and adaptive suspension you have (which I don’t have and deliberately avoided). Not sure if that’s true or not but sorry to hear it’s happening to you, and hope you can get it fixed!
@@joshjamescars I too believe it’s a combination of the adjustable suspension and KDSS. The car care nut guy has a Luxury and his had the lean. Something I hadn’t heard about when I bought my Plus trim. I sure wanted the adjustable suspension and real leather but felt like air suspension even from Lexus was too complex.
Congratulations Josh on these beautiful mods made to your luxurious GX! To put some of the trim pricing in perspective, at Prestige Lexus, the OEM plastic part (FL; 74232-60580) is about $56, and the 'old' Gray Sapele wood trim piece (FL; 74232-60830) is about $199. I don't know how or where these wood pieces are made, but while still *_very_* pricey at ~ 3.6 times the _already-expensive_ OEM cost, it seems that one gets 'more' from the upgraded part (wood and aluminum and plastic trim piece) vs. the stock 100% 'cheap' plastic part. Indeed, allowing for additional internal development time from the initial introduction of the GX470 in 2002, the overall guiding philosophy/principle behind the design of these vehicles is something that is becoming increasingly difficult, if not impossible, to find ...
Hello!! WOW, thanks for the pricing context! I didn’t think to look up the price of the original parts. The wood pieces are made by Yamaha Fine Technologies in Japan, and I completely agree you pay more for the “old” part but you definitely get more. It’s also interesting that using those two retail prices, Lexus was able to save about $1K per car just on that, while of course continuing to raise the price. I’m sure the new infotainment system does cost more too, but still.
@@joshjamescars Exactly, it made me wonder what other (potentially unseen) cost-cutting measures were done (but this is true for all products) ... I had a chance to take my 'baby' GX on a short road trip recently, with daytime highs around 40℃/104℉ ... I averaged around 21 MPG with the AC on and mainly highway driving for the entire trip. It handled everything with ease -- maybe not surprising at all given the extreme countries/climates where this Prado typically is found! 🙂
Yes, that was the whole point of that part of the video-the vehicle you see in the video (my GX460) is a 2023 and you can see that the old parts work perfectly.
I will check on the steering wheel stitching- I bought thecar for my wife so I don't see it as often, but we really like the class it exudes on the interior and I'm sure she would love the upgrades. Thanks for your help.
Yes!!! It’s a small thing but makes such a big difference. The wood trim will work for any 2022+ and the shifter/boot will work if you have the Sepia or Ecru interiors.
Josh: "for people like me" Me: and like me and your other 8.50k+ subs.... CONGRATS , your sub act is growing. When you showed Lexus of Austin page, yall have tons of GX available...in my area, they done bought all the 2023 Gx model, not even a ES 350 is sitting in the lot.
Hahaha! Thank you! And yeah, we have a ton, though all CPO. As for the ES350 come buy here because they’re being discounted like crazy! $5-8K off MSRP and if you lease, I’ve seen $3K in lease cash on the hoods too. One of my subscribers contacted me a few weeks back she bought a nicely optioned new ES350 at a Dallas dealer for way under invoice with all the incentives.
@@joshjamescars Need to see how much they will charge to ship the car to East coast...Cause im here where them bald head big foot pilgrims set their behind in America.
Lexus' transition to the modern era has been challenging. I'm hoping that we can get some of those interior qualities back. I think they have knocked it out of the park on the exterior designs though.
Hi Josh, which dealership did you order from? I am having hard time ordering the shift knob with chrome booth and the leather boot. I orders the wood trims with no problem. This is a great upgrade. Thank you in advance.
That’s interesting! I ordered from Park Place Lexus of Plano, but primarily because that’s within the state for me so the parts were at my door the very next day.
Love the new shifter, definitely an upgrade I'd like to make. I never knew they switched over the window switch plates to plastic in the 22's. What a cheap choice.
Thank goodness you were just joking😂. Mine is turning 1 year old in September & barely 1700 miles, I love the car so much. I just discovered that the Inner CV booths on my GX seems leaking grease, both side looks shinier than the outer CV boots next to wheels. Have you notice that on yours?
Oh no, Sorry to hear! That definitely sounds like a factory defect with only 1,700 miles. I haven’t had that issue, but definitely have the dealer look it over. Also, even though you only have 1,700 miles, make sure you’re taking it in every 6 months.
I actually prefer the incandescent lights only because the soft and warm light looks so good on the Ecru at night/in a garage. Harsh white light looks terrible on beige. But if I had the black or red interior I absolutely would do LEDs.
@@joshjamescars That makes sense. I can’t wait to get my Atomic Silver with Sepia interior. Then, I’m done. Your videos have great content and excellent quality. Thanks for sharing.
My Dec 2023 GX 460 pulsates when the break is lightly pressed in slow motion either forward or reverse gear, Bob Johnson Lexus in Rochester, NY says there is nothing wrong with the SUV, everything is as per spec and this is a design problem from Lexus. Wonder if any others have the same problem, I never had this issue with the three 4Runner Limited's that I owned in the past. There is no vibration while breaking at higher speeds, issue is only at very low speeds like when you move slow in bumper to bumper traffic with break half pressed. I feel the pulsations on my legs and arm rest, there is no vibration on the steering wheel.
It sounds like you might have an issue with your brake pads or rotors. I don’t think there’s a design problem from Lexus. Brake pads and rotors are basically the same on every car. Mine will do that but only when I haven’t driven it in a while or it’s just been washed so the brakes are wet. Otherwise I haven’t had any issues.
Hello! That’s a really big jump from the Venza you were set on… they’re really different cars and if you were ready to pull the trigger on a Venza I’m not sure if the GX will work for you… please go test drive both and really consider that decision.
Great choice! What I always say is, now is the time to get one almost new with low mileage, and I guarantee you everything about this GX will still be really desirable on the used market in years to come. As far as I’m concerned, this is the last great Land Cruiser we will ever see stateside.
Congrats 👏 Looks the part!!! I thought you would be tinting the front windows, Lexus cheaped out on those windows as well, those windows have great visibility, but bring in a ton of light and heat. Of course, nothing placed from Toyota… Those are on my to dos.
Oh I tinted the whole car the day I bought it. That’s always the first order of business in Texas! Though I like to go light(er) on the front two windows for visibility. The whole thing has ceramic tint on it, though, so no heat penetrates the vehicle, to the point where it can actually be freezing cold even on a 100-degree day.
Hey John, great video as always. I was wondering what your thoughts are on the new RX 350 H in terms of reliability. I know it shares the same drivetrain as the Toyota RAV4 hybrid any thoughts?
Looks so much nicer! Worth the upgrade! I will do the same to mine as soon as I get it. Also nice to show that toyota lexus have gone cheap on the materials year over year, the new GX doesn't even have real wood anymore... not the lexus I loved. This is also true for the European cars, materials have gone cheaper and cheaper, plastic everywhere, all the rattles... I'm losing interest of all the new cars coming out every year now, they are more and more smart phone like, and they don't feel special anymore.
I couldn’t agree more about the new GX. I just had the new Land Cruiser in for review and “smartphone like” is such a good way to put it. Felt like a smartpjone that you’ll trade out of in a few years.
Hello! Use a trim removal tool (put that in Amazon if you don’t have one); they’re made of plastic and designed for exactly this kind of task. When used properly they won’t damage any of the trim surrounding the bezel. Slip the edge of the tool (which should have a blade-like edge for slipping in between trim pieces) in between the bezel and the door card trim and very gently pull up on it so the bezel pops off. Not hard to do but maybe a bit scary on your first try. Would recommend starting on the back door and don’t rush yourself. If you feel like you can’t or don’t want to do it yourself you can always pay the dealer for an hour of labor to do it for you.
man i have an itch for one of these. I have to range rovers and was thinking of selling and getting a 2025 defender. But these things just seem sooo headache free. and that is good thing.
Great video, owner of a 22 Premium, cannot believe the price increase and cost cutting of the GX550, and all of the newer Lexus models. Sadly with the Japanese going more and more away from naturally aspirated engines (Infiniti moving away from their V6) I may look elsewhere in the future probably BMW as the B48 and 58 have good reliability ratings. It’s crazy.
Paul Scottsdale Lexus is good also,. Dan is a great guy and they have the same pricing as Ramsey. This is not to say your place is not good just another one to help others.
I have actually purchased parts from them! Haha! They do seem great. I just buy from whoever is offering the lowest price for online orders at any given time. :)
Josh, after viewing your video, without noticing your "edit", went ahead and ordered the shift boot and knob. Yikes! My GX460 has a black interior. What do you suggest I do could remedy the scenario? Thanks.
You should be able to call whatever dealer you ordered from and have them cancel those two items! :) They take a while to ship anyway because they have to get sourced from Japan.
@@joshjamescars Thank you, Josh for the super quick response. Was able to cancel the order. Do you happen to know the part numbers for a "black" interior knob and boot? If so, please advise :)) Trust and appreciate your info. Bought my 2023 GX460 after watching your very articulated assessment last year. Please keep those videos coming.
@sectora185 Glad to hear it! Check with your dealer and see if they can source a part number for that. And if you shop your local dealer for that, most dealers will order parts in and then you pay at pickup after reviewing them to make sure they’re what you’re looking for.
Oh yeah, all the materials were new and unique to the blackline, unfortunately, which means that there aren’t older models to source those materials from.
Hahahahaha! Sorry ;). Had to have a little fun at y’all’s expense. As for the parts, order those exact part numbers and you’ll be good! The shift boot and bezel come from the 19 and older GX but the window switch bezels come from 20-21 GX as those were the only years that got gray sapele wood. Prior to 2020 the only options were the mahogany or California walnut, I believe.
Another viewer just commented the same thing, yikes! What I suggested to them was to see what a US dealer would charge you to ship to Canada. I’ve done the same thing the other way around with window visors for my Rav Prime. So maybe see if you can cancel your order and shop around a few US dealers…
Depends what kind of driving you’ll be doing but the RX and NX can get really loud on the highway, plus the new Lexus interiors are really lackluster compared to the older cars. My money would be on GX460, or better yet if quietness is your most important thing, go with an ES350 ultra luxury.
It looks so much better with the old shifter and door switch trims. Sadly it was another cost cutting thing, while somewhat minimal, really detracts from the overall feel. New buyers would never notice or complain either.
Josh
Love your site and input.
Cheers

@gerardgunhouse397 Gunner there is a screenshot in the video around half way in one of the text messages, mentioning Prestige in NJ. They have 17% or so discount on top of the reduced price and free shipping over $100 at present.
@gerardgunhouse397 Yes to what Blue’s Fox Pics stated. But you can also throw the part numbers into Google and it’ll pull up all the various dealers who have the part(s) and you can find the lowest price. Dealers are always doing sales and discounts that could make any one cheaper than another on any given day.

Thanks again
Your content helped convince me to get the GX! So happy with my 23 blackline, never giving it up!
Congratulations!! The Blackline is fantastic!
If it's Nori Green Pearl you're sitting on a goldmine!
@@will53e Didn't the Nori not come with the ML stereo tho? I've not heard both side by side, but I love the Nori. Is the ML worth it?
@malifestro3319 I think the Mark Levinson is absolutely worth it, and no it didn’t come on Nori green because that was a color exclusive to the Blackline which was based on the 460 base model (though it included a 360-cam)
@@malifestro3319 I don't have a Nori Green...I do have almost every option on my 2023 luxury model and I love it. But...if I could go back and do it all over again knowing what I know now, I'd get a blackline Nori Green. If the sound system wasn't to my liking I'd upgrade a few components.
NOOOOOOO! Never trade it in, it's the best GX Lexus has ever made, period! Great and worthy upgrades.
Haha most definitely not letting it go! And thank you!
Josh, your GX content is the absolute best on YT and I hope you continue to do more!
Another upgrade are the sports (garnet/scarlet) tailights, they’re definitely the safer version in inclement weather, and LED bulbs (hard to find in incandescent yellow to look great with Ecru)
It’s kinda hard to apply concealer with the stock vanity lights so upgrading the vanity lights to LED anything is a must and extremely easy.
Thank you! And yes, could not agree more!
Nothing better than a GX460
GX 460 is fantastic. LX 570 is better.
@@BunderaKZT agree, both old school V8s
WOW congratulations to you on the GX, and best wishes for a good outcome and hopefully remission in your fight against cancer!!!!!!!
@@joshjamescars thank you so much. I so appreciate your comment. Take care! ❤️
Thanks!
Thank you so much!
I am selling my '17 460 to buy a 2022/23, 460. These model years will be the ones to own. Love the mods! Keep up the great content.
Yes!! Fully support this and agree. I’d go with the 23 if you can-the new infotainment system had a few minor bugs in 22 that were worked out for 23.
@@joshjamescars Out of curiosity what bugs are these (do you have forum topic in mind?)? Thanks!
I agree, and that’s a great idea to just do the front. And yes! They look so good!
Upgrades DONE! - Thank you!
I will say your videos did help us to make up our mind, we are falling in love with our slightly used GX460. We chose it over a new and fun 4runner, no regrets.
GREAT choice!! I think that is absolutely the way to go right now.
@@joshjamescars yeah, we connected with your sensibility. I should have stopped the video early though; I ‘was’ blissfully ignorant about the plastic window button panels. Haha
These details matter a lot. Awesome upgrades!!
Right!? They absolutely do!! And thank you!
Love it Josh! I’ll be a year in with my 23’ GX in September. Time definitely flys. I got 7100 miles and counting. Love my GX, like you I’ll have it forever 😀
Heyyy! We’re right on the same mileage together! After this trip I’m at about 7,200! Time definitely flies.
I’m 42 and I still telling myself one day I’ll treat to a car like the Lexus GX. There is something elegant with old school Lexus luxury.
Here’s hoping the day comes soon! Elegant is the perfect word to describe it.
Awesome!!! I’m so glad you were able to restore your GX to its appropriate trim!!
Thank you for the update video! I didn’t know about the cheap out pieces on my 2023 Gx! I ordered the window bezels, installed them recently and now so beautiful now!
Awesome!!! Such a huge improvement!
Hi Josh,
Love the the updates. I ordered the parts a little over a month ago and was initially told all parts were on back order and estimated arrival was October. Good News though…seems like orders are arriving faster than originally estimated and I’ve received and installed all the parts and my 2022 Premium Plus looks amazing! Thanks again for the video.
That’s awesome!! Congrats on getting them in early and upgrading everything!
I also have a GX460 year 2023 and won’t be trading it in for many years. The V8 is amazing, I don’t want a 6 cylinder turbo engine.
Thanks for the update, glad you’re enjoying it! Last of the old school luxury suvs 🕯️
Yes!! Thank you as always for watching!!
21 GX premium plus
Bought the shift boot and shift knob bc of this video. Such a stark difference. Good timing as Lexus has 17.76% off all parts and accessories right now. Thanks for the video.
You won’t regret it!! And dang I wish I’d waited a month or so to buy my parts. Oh well. 😂
@@joshjamescars I opened my switch bezel on 23 gx460……but it doesn’t have screws…. It’s just a pop in… would it still fit?
@RahulPatel-bl2qq that’s odd… you should have screws and yes, it should still work as long as you have a 2023 GX460.
You got me at first! I actually said "what the heck?!" out loud. Still debating between a 1985 Mercedes 300TD wagon and a GX460. The way cars should be made!!
Yes!! Definitely the way cars should be made!
Can’t go wrong with the W123 (I own a 1979 240D). Make sure the rubber suspension bits have been replaced. New OEM parts can easily add up in price.
Terrific!!! And yes, I think I inadvertently sent every GX460 owner who watches my channel out to buy them. 😂
Right!? It’s almost “cheap” by 2024 standards which is insane considering the quality you get today. And love that you love it more every day!
@joshjamescars thank you Josh for checking on the color. We do have Sepia so we are in luck.
Gorgeous upgrades! We are a GX family. '22 and '23.
GX460 drives very nice. It feels like you're driving close to the road and feel solidly roll over the asphalt. It makes you want to drive it more and more.
Wow that shifter really makes a difference. Good for you.
Thanks! And yes, makes a huge difference. Especially the feeling in the hand.
You make me laugh! You talked me out of wanting the new one and then I started researching and really started liking the last year model 2021 of the LX 570..
dude this video just confirmed my bias to get a 460! Shopping on carmax now
Great choice!! Definitely check around at dealers as well-their L-Certified program does come with some nice benefits.
Just 30 years? Congrats on your success!!🎉

Right!? I can’t fathom spending $70-80K on the new RX, TX, or GX.
We ordered the sephia interior, so glad to hear that.
Terrific! Then this should all work perfectly for you! :)
Good luck on your GX journey and I will keep on watching.
yes amen to that ❤
@FatalAnimal Could not agree more and I actually did the same thing with my 4Runner as you did! Kept everything stock except for changing out the interior lights to LEDs!
Perfection! Love your attention to details.

Looks so good!! Perfect upgrades. 😎😎😎
Thank you!!! Still doesn’t replace the 4Runner TRD shift knob as my favorite, but it’s a close second. ;)
Oh thank god!
placed an order from the dealer in NJ unfortunately they wont have it till October ..... i guess it's made to order oh well
That’s odd… I would try calling/shopping around, they’re definitely not made to order, mine were on my doorstep two days after I placed my order
Same here. Apparently these parts are completely sold out nationwide and are being made to order as there isn't any inventory. My order is supposed to arrive in October as well.
@Mferny1973 WOW! Seems y’all sold out the spare parts bin hahaha! That sucks about the long delivery time, here’s hoping you can get them sooner.
I’ve been super impressed with Nissan’s new products. The QX60 I drove was outstanding.
My 2017 Gx with 90k miles has averaged 17.8 mpg.
I would hope that Toyota notices that people notice
Oh I’m sure they know that people notice, but since people will buy regardless, they’re simply focused on padding their profits.
you had me for a minute. Get that that thing to 500k miles!
That’s the plan!
So the Parts list was showing 2021 - 2022, will these parts work with a 2023 ?
Yes, that was the whole point of that part of the video-the vehicle you see in the video (my GX460) is a 2023 and you can see that the old parts work perfectly.
I will check on the steering wheel stitching- I bought thecar for my wife so I don't see it as often, but we really like the class it exudes on the interior and I'm sure she would love the upgrades. Thanks for your help.
Yes!!! It’s a small thing but makes such a big difference. The wood trim will work for any 2022+ and the shifter/boot will work if you have the Sepia or Ecru interiors.
Josh: "for people like me"
Me: and like me and your other 8.50k+ subs....
I agree!! The new cars would be fine if they didn’t feel like rental cars inside.
Such a cheap choice! And yes to the shifter!
It’s the lower trim models that doesn’t have the wood accents on the window switches. My 2020 GX Luxury Sport has it in all 4 windows.
Right, because you have a 2020. In 2022 when they changed the infotainment system, no GX regardless of trim came with the wood switch plates.
Nobody has a more clever command of the English language than Josh.
Haha thanks, Jeff! I appreciate that!
Looks great. Upgrade your interior lighting to LED. I’m looking for a my GX 460 or 18-21 Land Cruiser.
Great job, Josh! My wife and I are going to search for a 2022 GX460…
Hello! That’s a really big jump from the Venza you were set on… they’re really different cars and if you were ready to pull the trigger on a Venza I’m not sure if the GX will work for you… please go test drive both and really consider that decision.
Ive been going back and forth on a used GX. This video just convinced me to buy it 🫡
Great choice! What I always say is, now is the time to get one almost new with low mileage, and I guarantee you everything about this GX will still be really desirable on the used market in years to come. As far as I’m concerned, this is the last great Land Cruiser we will ever see stateside.
@@joshjamescars completely agree! Keep up the great GX content man, new sub from me 👍🏽
Congrats 👏
Looks the part!!!
Reliability should be as good as it gets since it’s using the basic Toyota hybrid system!
It’s an absolutely beautiful machine
Hello Josh, wondering IF the GX460 offer Android and Apple play? Thanks
Yes but only model years 2022 and 2023 with the new infotainment screen.
@@joshjamescars Only wired, unless you buy an adapter
Yes, but those I always say use at your own (cybersecurity) risk.
Yep- you and others wise enough to have purchased the GX 460 were very wise vice those who foolishly waited to buy the brand new wxpenseive GX 550!
Would have liked to see removal process of the switch plates. Was it hard not to damage? Thanks
@@joshjamescars thanks ❤️❤️
man i have an itch for one of these. I have to range rovers and was thinking of selling and getting a 2025 defender. But these things just seem sooo headache free. and that is good thing.
IMO if you’re happy leasing, then lease the defender. But if you want to buy, buy the GX.
No towing package? Why not. Do I have to buy 2021 to get towing package?
You can get the towing package on any GX460. I just haven’t ever and probably won’t ever have a need to tow anything.
It’s crazy.
Yep… it’s a sad day for Lexus and Japanese auto fans. And same here, if I buy a new car anytime soon it will likely be European.
Fabulous idea, I wish I could get the window switch trim for mine-only I haven’t found the Matte Black ash wood trim 😢
Oh yeah, all the materials were new and unique to the blackline, unfortunately, which means that there aren’t older models to source those materials from.
Just bought a new 2023 P+ W/ Sport & Captains June 8th for 59k; pretty happy about it.
Wow!!! I figured they’d all have been sold by now, so congratulations on getting one new!
you had me at "CD player" ha
Great Idea to change the shift did you got it online?
Yes! If you google the part number you’ll see which dealers have them for the cheapest price.
Thank you. I had a gx460 as a loaner. Too big for me.
I almost unsubscribed with the fake news ,glad I didn’t. It looks awesome, wanted to do the same thing, Thanks for the great content.
Hahahahaha!
Just ordered the part and wow, in Canada the price is 3200$, what a kick in the ass
Another viewer just commented the same thing, yikes! What I suggested to them was to see what a US dealer would charge you to ship to Canada. I’ve done the same thing the other way around with window visors for my Rav Prime. So maybe see if you can cancel your order and shop around a few US dealers…
hello,
does the 2023 GX require premium gasoline??
please advise
Yes. All GXs require premium.
Question which would you say is quieter of the three gx460 rx350H or NX350H ? Just care about quietness. Thanks
Depends what kind of driving you’ll be doing but the RX and NX can get really loud on the highway, plus the new Lexus interiors are really lackluster compared to the older cars. My money would be on GX460, or better yet if quietness is your most important thing, go with an ES350 ultra luxury.
My first upgrade on my 23 was the higher end 19 wheels
I’ve been thinking about that too! I may do that when my tires need to be replaced.
I have th 19s and thinking about replacing them as they have an extremely limited tire selection. The tire size is rare
Like and comment first, save to watch later
It looks so much better with the old shifter and door switch trims. Sadly it was another cost cutting thing, while somewhat minimal, really detracts from the overall feel. New buyers would never notice or complain either.
I completely agree. A case of the littlest detail making the biggest difference! And I think you’re spot on that newer buyers would never notice.
