Nice review and cool video. I live four blocks from where the Red, Brown, and Purple Lines all stop. Used to ride the Red and Green Lines all the time. The horn does sound if the train is running express, which by the way sounded more prototypical on MTH's first run.
Thank you Steven, Ah ok so if the express is coming through a station that it's not stopping at they will blow the horn as a warning. I rode Metra a lot more than I did the CTA so thanks for the knowledge.
@@Steven_Williams I grew up on 33rd & Cottagegrove. I had to catch the 35th street bus to get to the 'L'. I was all over the Southside back then. Especially the Point in Hyde Park and Rainbow Beach. I eventually moved to Addison and Marshfield. I met my wife in Lakeview.
Very NICE video presentation! I model the MTH NYC subway sets in both O-scale and HO. Like the rest of us, I too am very disappointed in the ridiculous not prototypical gap between the cars but only in O-scale was that addressed with the offering of shorter couplers as in HO, we're out of luck considering that the shortest Kadee couplers are still not short enough. MTH left us their loyal modellers out in the cold and disappointed. For you CTA modellers, they never offered the CTA in HO sadly as I'm sure that would've generated interest indeed. Lots of things left undone before they partially closed shop upon Mike Wolf retiring. I'm not holding my breath for more and especially new current products from them as I hope that either Atlas (for O-scale), Bachmann or Rapido (for HO scale) take over and do things right. I'll subscribe!
Thanks for watching and commenting. MTH did make closer coupling on their older PS2 models. I think you can still find the closer couplers and install them. We still don't know if MTH kept the tooling for these or not. I'm hoping they make them again or whomever bought the tooling decides to manufacture them.
I got this set last year it definitely reminds me of when I go to Chicago and also the roll signs should all be black since they were going for the prototype 5000 series which the car numbers are 5001 and 5009 so yeah they should all be black
Those are nice to say the least👍👍👍👍👍👍! However, the special oversized "CTA" logo and the specialized "Blue cta" front end livery was featured on only a few of the first 8 to 10 Bombardier "prototype" 5000 series cars to be introduced in 2009. In truth, the 3200s never featured such a livery. But the 3200 and 5000 series look so much alike until most people wouldn't notice.
TheChicagoL, thank you for watching! indeed you are correct on that. They were only offered on the 5000 series. MTH seemed to love the 3200 series for some reason. In fact they have only done the 2400 and 3200 as far as I know for CTA. Being an O scale guy and a huge fan of subways there isn't much out there, but I'm really happy that MTH did their best to give us Chicago folks something close to the prototypes. Perhaps Lionel will get the license and tooling from MTH and release a 5000 or 7000 series.
Yes you can, but that adds a bit more complexity into the programming. You would need to record a route and do everything manually and then play it back.
Why are they out or order? The faces of the train point out and the 2 silver rear backs without the faces .. face each other .. and when running multiple trains the faces of the trains face each other
Hey David, good eye on catching that. So that's more of a personal thing for me. I run them so they are symmetrical looking so when they are in reverse they look the same. Like a subway doing an out and back run which you can do with the Subway mode in the app. The back of the MTH CTA cars aren't the most detailed so having both of the large blue logos on both ends looks better at least for me.
Tony, those are made by MTH and they come in packs of 8. They work specifically with Lionel Fastback. The trestle product number is 40-1157. I hope that helps.
Hi Chris, I wish there was an easy answer. Your best hope on this is to scour eBay, Facebook marketplace, or other model RR auction sites. Now we are hoping since MTH kept their Subway tooling (as far as I know) they will continue to make CTA Subways in the future, but only time will tell. Thanks for watching the channel!
@@chrisprater5247 No problem, but be aware prices are bit inflated on O scale Subways because of the news of MTH closing last year. Your best bet is to wait and see if MTH does start making them, or if you can snag one for MSRP or lower it's worth the price.
Local transit style trains like these are my favorite type of trains. I got the MTH HO scale NYC Subway cars and loving them💖
Thanks for watching and I'm glad to see another Subway fan!
I live in Phoenix now, lived in Chicago for 45years. I would love to have this in my collection.
Nice set! They made a short coupler you can replace with the long ones if you want.
Thank you Matt, just worried that the shorter one might not clear O-31, but I would change them to give them a better prototypical appearance.
Link?

I rode just about every line at some time. I remember when the Red Lines was called Jackson Park/Howard.
@@DennyDreadBassMan yes! I used to live on the Southside near the Dan Ryan and later in Englewood. On the Northside now.

Very Interesting CTA Train Layout-Looks Just Like The Real Thing

I have actually 7 cta cars I have the old cubs wrapped train set #2005 these then I have the one old 2600 painted 3200 non rehabbed
@@hollisandzdrake1272 Nice, I have the Bears, White Sox, Yellow Book, and Bicentennials. MTH did a great job on them
Oo I would like to see the bears and white SX cars

Can you program the subway to stop automatically without using the remote controller at certain track location and pronounce the station name?
Yes you can, but that adds a bit more complexity into the programming. You would need to record a route and do everything manually and then play it back.
Really nice set and layout
Thank you much and I appreciate you watching the video.
Nice video! What size is your layout?
It's 12x7 now after I did a bit of extension work. Thank you for watching!
That design was actually on the 5000 series to welcome them to the city

@@wcmodelrailroad lol 😂
Is this run on Lionel tracks, I couldn’t get them to run on Lionel tracks ,only real trak
Yes, it's on Fastrack. They should run on a 3-rail compatible track.
What website do I go on to purchase one of these
Hi Joseph, unfortunately these are not made anymore and can only be purchased 3rd party from either eBay or Trainz.com
@@wcmodelrailroad thank you my friend I had my heart set on one of these

Where can I order a set?
Best place to find this would be in the 2nd market as finding this new would be quite difficult. I would try eBay or Trainz.com
Those trains are 5000 series cars in there first run
😍
Very nice
Thease are hard to find
I preordered mine, but yes they can be hard to find now since we don't know if they will be made again by MTH. Thank you for watching the channel.
👍
402 and climbing
Thank you for watching Chris!
Too bad I can't afford it.
Sorry about that Denny, I do appreciate you watching the video.
The three rail track pieces are only for the cta model everything else……..it doesn’t make any sense
