My 11yr old son plays little league for the past 5yrs, he'll move up to 12u next yr and loves pitching, he wasn't a fan of the curveball but he's learning the slider and absolutely luvs throwing it and throws it good for his age, I appreciate your advice in pitching, keep up the great work.
Never was a pitcher and don't know much about it, but I have been trying to teach my son the cutter through different videos. This video is the first video that has actually helped him. The other videos taught grips and what not but he couldn't get the ball to cut. We tried out what was shown on this video and immediately he was able to throw it with a cut. First time he legitimately threw a cutter. He was so excited and he said it was easier than he thought. Thank you!
Mariano's cutter is his fastball. No one can throw a mo cutter because his grip is a four seam fastball grip, and the way he throws it cuts naturally for him.
I'm glad they didn't mention him, anything associated with the Yankees triggers me. I don't want to have to go into the closet and scream for 15 minutes than curl up on the floor crying. Thanks!
Yessir he did this very good remember on any pitch never change your arm angle it doesn’t do anything but hurt your arm the only thing that changes is the grip and the positioning of your wrist
rawlings gold glove. so sweet looking. but I'd get the h web 12.75. but the primo version, the mocha looks even nicer, with gold trim all around the inside, heel, and palm
I really think this will be an effective pitch at least in my arsenal because I throw so many different types of fastball and in this pitch you can play with the soeends
To anyone who has never pitched at any decently high level, no offense but the entire game changes. Sometimes pitchers that have great stuff don’t work out yet others, who have seemingly mediocre stuff have long excellent careers sometimes. This is largely due to the fact that higher velocity in higher levels of play simply allows pitchers to take almost any pitch and disguise it as their fastball and the better they do that the more efficient they often are. Cutters are exactly that. Easy to hit if recognized but if not extremely effective with subtle and very little movement. This is why guys like Mariano Rivera were so effective. Everything looks the same and he thre majority two pitches. If a pitcher only throws a fastball, (2/4) seam and a changeup and a cutter, he can make a living. Because they all look the same. If a guy speaks about throwing down coridors or hallways then he probably has decent sliders cutters or splitters.
Free Spear-it yo this cat came down to throw to us one day for practice in the fall at Northwest Florida State College and he said “yeah I coulda played for the Blue Jays but I overslept tryouts...” that shit had me rollin
That was the first time someone recommend the same grip on the cutter that I use. I think Rivera used the same grip as well. If I remember right he put a bit more pressure on the middle finger when he threw the pitch. That what I do on my cutter. I also throw a sinker. That is much different from the way it is taught. I think I can throw the sinker differently because of the my arm action is unique. I feel most comfortable throwing the screwball. People say that the screwball is terrible for the UCL. It may be however: my shoulder is what I am more concerned about. I have had "dead arm" once since learning the screwball I am starting to find my Velocity again. I throw a 4-seam fastball but I tend to try to do too much sometimes with that pitch. I am going to tryout for some independent league soon.
Ok, just watching to learn what a cutter is, and is it just me or could you not get WAY more movement and the same combinations with curve/slider grip and motion. Slider would be his flat cutter and a bad curve would be the middle. May its just me since I haven't played for a few years and I threw slower (low 70s), but I could throw a ball at the batters face and it drop to the middle of the box. Help me out if I'm missing something, I'm just missing the sport and trying to learn some stuff. EDIT: I guess he sorta addressed it at the end. So it is just a worse curve/slider but is less stressful?
Great video the Greater closer picher in the Pro-Baseball Game . Mariano Rivera the Yankee player hold the most saved games in the history of baseball he troughs Cuter and nothing but cuter ⚾️👍
John, I enjoyed the video. Agree with a lot of what your guest said and really like your honesty about a previous cutter video you did. I have one issue regarding the, "throw it like a football". It's my understanding that in order to get a nice tight spiral with a football you need to pronate your hand. Your guest describes it as NOT pronating. Can you please clarify?
I agree you pronate on a football throw 🏈 but I think he was talking about through release no pronation, after that I think you naturally get to it even when throwing a cutter. It’s later timing of pronation vs no pronation IMO
It depends, rotate the movement of the pitch by 90 degrees and that is likely what you get out of it, if you want the same movement I think it would be different, I was sidearm for a while too, but I slightly prefer going basically straight up
What’s up Coach Madden. I’ve been having a problem all my life when I’m pitching. Whenever I️ lift my leg to pitch the ball, my baseball pants restrict me from getting my leg up as high as I️ want. Throughout your experience have you found a way to fix this problem. Thanks
Yes, this happens. You just have to find a good pair of pants with the right in seam. If your crotch area hangs down low it may restrict your movement. I liked pants that were more snug there but still comfortable.
Chris O’Donnell Yeah I can't wear long pants. I wear the ones with the scrunchy end so I can wear them at my knees. Since I'm pretty susceptible to raspberries I also roll my socks over the pants so there is a sort of padding but this also helps to keep the pants up.
You should make a video on where the ball should be releasing out of your hand for the slurve/ curve. Alot of talk about getting the movement and the axis point but not so much on release points.
Coach John, I love your videos and they've really helped me be a well rounded pitcher. I am 13 years old, so is going to Perfect Game USA showcases a waste of time or should I consider going to one, will I actually benefit from it?
My 11 year-old throws a cutter a lot . He is supposed to be throwing a Two seam fast ball . Half the time he ends up throwing a cutter .It almost gets to plate and jumps to the left a good 8 to 10 inches.I m worried about him hurting his arm so sending him to a pitching coach to help make sure he is not going to hurt his arm doing it.It is a brutal pitch though .He has a lot of K's.
So i was taught a certain fastball poorly and it was introduced to me as a cutter, i have my first two fingers on the right side of the horseshoe with my second hardly touching (I am a righty) and it breaks in on righties. Anyone know what that is?
So I did some research into the gyroball and, while it does spin like a spiral much like the gyroball, my pitch seems to go up and in, unlike the gyro being an enhanced cutter
I don’t know. Pedro Martinez preaches the exact opposite when it comes to younger pitchers. That football motion “is Tommy John” .. according to Mr Martinez
Its a slider... Watch mariano teach it. You should pronate a bit, kids will hurt thier arms when thier FB starts being thrown like a slider (he said football).

I wanna share my kids video with you, of him throwing this cutter.
People keep hating on him because of the 7.90 ERA. Just because he had a pretty bad season doesn't mean his cutter advice is invalid.
Hit my first home run today
I know it 3 months ago but good stuff keep the grind going
Thanks
Nice I just hit mine recently too
Atta boy
Get it

Thats a great quote that is so true. “Pitching is the art of not throwing strikes”
He’s got gems 💎
Ehhhhh i mean if u cant throw a strike as a pitcher you gotta find a new position
Aaron you clearly don’t know what the phrase is
Oh man oh man. Literally watched this vid during my bullpen. IT FREAKING WOOOOOORKS!!! THANK YOU GUYS
Seems like Cutters and Sinkers are only options if you can throw at least 90. South of 90 and those grips are basically muddy fastballs, correct?
This actually helped me. I got so much movement on my cutter now.
2:13 - 3 different speeds and 3 grips would be 9 variations--not 6. That's why he teaches baseball and not math. LOL
ft55555 by that he means 3 x 3
@@isaacmccalla8089 dude 3x3 is 9
Like throwing a football was a great description. I can visualize the gyro effect or bullet spin much clearer now.
This is the best baseball channel
🙏
“Awesome Brad Lidge cutter.” Does Mariano Rivera not exist there?!
Mariano's cutter is his fastball. No one can throw a mo cutter because his grip is a four seam fastball grip, and the way he throws it cuts naturally for him.
mo’s cutter was natural
I'm glad they didn't mention him, anything associated with the Yankees triggers me. I don't want to have to go into the closet and scream for 15 minutes than curl up on the floor crying. Thanks!
Great seeing you on this video John! you helped my son Jake Oropeza alot during his time at cutternation
Yessir he did this very good remember on any pitch never change your arm angle it doesn’t do anything but hurt your arm the only thing that changes is the grip and the positioning of your wrist
Such quality content! Loved it!
All because of the man behind the camera ☝️

Thankyou Mr. Maden

Looks like I'll be trying the cutter out

always enjoyable listening to "specialists" #cutter #variations
My man Sintes! Played with him in Mexico⚾️🇲🇽
I gotta check out that Mexico Baseball one day...as a fan
We're out there on Sundays in Tijuana. I'm from L.A I'll be there Sunday to pitch game 3 of the championship. Thanks for the reply
Niiice
Good luck!
Sweet video man! Keep up the great work! Your videos are helping me out a bunch on the mound
Awesome! Keep working hard my man!

The best ever has thrown the cutter the great Mariono rivera period.............
Is this twisting your rist. Is it bad for your arm?
Good game

REIBEL Castillo Mariano was the man!

Coach can you please explain how to master at knuckle curve
Would being a side-arm pitcher change the way i would release the cutter?
It would just make it harder imo
It depends, rotate the movement of the pitch by 90 degrees and that is likely what you get out of it, if you want the same movement I think it would be different, I was sidearm for a while too, but I slightly prefer going basically straight up

Not usually
Chris O’Donnell Interesting. I wonder if going up one pant size would help. Or maybe get pants that have wider legs.
Yes, this happens. You just have to find a good pair of pants with the right in seam. If your crotch area hangs down low it may restrict your movement. I liked pants that were more snug there but still comfortable.

Hey we know this guy! keep up the great work!
Thanks it really works
Nasty cutter I tried it
very helpful
“Nobody better to talk about throwing the cutter” Mariano Rivera is
I thought the same thing but Mo only knows like five words.
For a youth player how much do you take off this pitch? Throw at 70% 80%??
These thumbnails are lit
Thanks! 🔥
Great video coach
Thanks
Awesome,
Amazing
"Nobody better to talk about cutters than thus guy"
*Mo has entered the chat*
Mos cutter wasn’t a cutter grip. He threw a 4 seam that cut. Really making it like a 2 seam that went away like a slider,
Coach John, I love your videos and they've really helped me be a well rounded pitcher. I am 13 years old, so is going to Perfect Game USA showcases a waste of time or should I consider going to one, will I actually benefit from it?
Check out my video called is perfect game worth it
Sorry, didn't realize you had that video, thanks
No prob. I hope that helps. Here's the link by the way... th-cam.com/video/fCEJQ6ekyLI/w-d-xo.html
How come no one tucks their fingers into the ball for a change up or curve ball ??
Interesting. I throw my cutter differently and get the same result.
The result is what matters!
Christopher Jackson could you help me to throw the cutter
nice really help me
cool

Sounds like you might be throwing a bit of a gyroball. I don’t know I’d have to see it.
So I did some research into the gyroball and, while it does spin like a spiral much like the gyroball, my pitch seems to go up and in, unlike the gyro being an enhanced cutter
Mariano gripped the ball the same way and released the same way every time . Economy of motion.
No offense to him but the ultimate person to go to on cutter advice is The Sandman Mo
Coach great vid, im a fan of the cutter. By chance have you ever heard of the turd cutter?
😵
nice vid
👊😉
This is Awesome
Thanks
Thank you very much!
YouGoPro 👍
I started throwing this but I started to flick my wrist and spin it off my finger more so now it’s more of a curveball so not a cutter anymore 😂
I can't throw a football :(
No?
it's okay
Same here
I think Mariano Rivera would be a better person to explain
Rayzr he doesn’t know how he throws it, it just moves naturally
Dude your ERA was 7.90 last season. Guess that cutter wasn’t cutting
Blinky Pinky Inky and Clyde he’s a pro
His ERA the year before was 2.61 with three times as many games.
Enzo Gorlami could be control, could be mechanics, could be him tipping his pitches, but either way he’s a pro so it’s better than whatever you throw
What about talking to Mariano rivera
0:17 No offense to that guy, but there is a guy by the name of Mariano Rivera
now i know all the pitches.
Sick
I'm here after watching Daiya no Ace
Mexico pesos must be good
Looks like it would fuck up your elbow the way he releases it lol
I don’t know. Pedro Martinez preaches the exact opposite when it comes to younger pitchers. That football motion “is Tommy John” .. according to Mr Martinez
So its for 8,9,and 10 like your video
3 x 3 is 9 not 6
I’m a baseball player, not a rocket scientist 😜
Lol
Not much info and alot of confusion. I just want to know how to throw a cutter, then I can develop it
“Pitching is the art of not throwing strikes” = 7.90 ERA
Its not.
Its a slider... Watch mariano teach it. You should pronate a bit, kids will hurt thier arms when thier FB starts being thrown like a slider (he said football).
I won my high school finals because I through only cutters and sliders
Does your elbow hurt cause of the cutter ? I'm afraid to throw it. I guess throwing it like a football won't injure the elbow.
Lmao he’s basically just talking about throwing a cutter and a slider
I want to join a base ball player pls invite mo to play a base ball plss invite on philipinines
Lol that's how I throw my 4-seam
Does it cut?
YouGoPro believe it or not but it actually has more of a tail. I throw straight over the top with no pronation
Hmm weird
isn't this exactly what he says in the video? if you throw it over the top it's not going to cut.
BJ Deans lol I guess that's why
It's like a gyroball
That’s not a 4 seam
