Thanks for listening mate, loved your reaction. Very thoughtful and well considered.
Prog is definitely the thinking mans music 🤘
.... and that's a saxophone.
SAX! It should've been more obvious to me. I think at that point in the reaction my brain was fried
Amazing band!!! You are on nice prog metal/rock stage following Porcupine Tree lol :) I would suggest Bloom/Marigold, The Tempest or Autumn from them. Their sound is so nice, vocals are very feel good to listen.
Another nice band is Haken which are occupying the same head space as Caligula's Horse for me. They are a little bit more progressive and jazzy compared to Caligula's horse. I would suggest anything from the The Mountain (10/10 perfect album) especially Falling Back to Earth or Pareidolia. Great reaction keep it up :)
There is a very specific story told by the writers (which you can watch interviews about that they cover), but they do want it open to interpretation. But yeah, you cannot beat CH's poetic storytelling.
My take on the Hope/Thief section and overall hope theme. Hope is both the nourishment - and shapes the dreams. But fear, and resting on hope without action means the dreams are for "nothing".
I love prog music for "shaking me at my core" as you so nicely put it. This was a stellar reaction!! One of my all time favourite bands, they do not have a single bad song. Their guitarist (and song writer) Sam Vallen is THE BEST guitar player I know, the tone, the tastefulness, the emotion.. I used to be tired of guitar solos in rock and metal, they were always so predictable, but Sam Vallen changed that for me! And Jim Grey on vocals, jeeez.. what a powerhouse. Beautiful breakdown of this song!
Please do more Caligula's Horse 🤩
I get that totally. These solos were unpredictable and gorgeous. More CH to come ;)
Good choice! Caligula was one of the wilder Roman Emperor's. Infamous for debauchery and strange behaviour. He appointed his favourite horse a Consul (Major political position). This is often brought up for laughs or to show he was insane. But it could also have been an intentional political stunt - to say that there were no viable candidates from the Senators.
Please do check out the other stand outs - Bloom/Marigold (2 joined songs), Songs for No One, Salt, Hands are the Hardest, Dream the Dead, Autumn/The Ascent (2 joined songs).
How much would I need to send for the full album reaction and breakdown?
and you don't have to apologise for cursing - especially when reacting to an Australian band. 'cursing' is not a taboo here. :)
10:48 - 11:48 reminds me of Haken don't remember which song though.
