The other method you mentioned is the one I used. My original ECM died 4 years ago (car's an '03) and my initial plan was to program a replacement using a Tech 2. When I went on eBAY though, Tech 2s were something like 3500 USD, and I'm from Romania where that's 3 to 5 Months average salary (that wasn't even including shipping). So I looked up instead the T8 CAN Flasher, which I ran from my GFs laptop. The advantage to that one is, you can pretty much run it from any modern laptop via an OBDII cable. The disadvantage is that it doesn't actually program a replacement, it clones an old ECU onto another one. So if your old one is bricked internally to the point where it doesn't get power or something, you're screwed. In my case, it was an Internal fault (the ECM would no longer trigger anything on the car, no fuel pump, no starter, turning key would do nothing), but the ID chip in it still worked, so that software actually managed to copy the vehicle ID from it and print it onto a junkyard replacement I found. An added benefit is that the software can save your vehicle ID as a proprietary file, so if you managed to pull it from the original ECM, and can hold on to the laptop or the software, you can pretty much repeat the procedure at any point while skipping the extremely suspenseful part of waiting for the program to pull the ID data from the car :)
@@AbdulSamad-rf5lh In both cases the ECUs were connected to the car. The cable I mentioned is a USB on one end and an OBD II on the other, so there is no way to connect it directly (the ECU has 2 plugs on top for some rectangular BOSCH connectors). If there is someone who knows what all those pins do and came up with a direct cable for them, then that's some lvl 12 intellect. But in the case of us mortals, you keep the old one in, connect to the car through OBD II under the steering column, copy, disconnect, uninstall old ECU from the car, install replacement, connect to car via OBD II again, flash it with data of old ECU and hope for the best.

This exact process will work for your 2010
@@AutoAutopsy 👍. In the meanwhile I believe I found out that for 9-3 from MY 2008 - 2010 you need GlobalTIS instead of TIS2000. I have a 2010. have you been able to work on a 2010 with TIS2000 security? Thanks!
Hey, purchased a '04 9-3 vert and it runs great. Every time I start it up it says ECU Not added. When I run diagnostics I get a ICM2 b1001 41 Code "Control Module Not Added". How can I add it or is too late? I believe this error code is not letting me add/remove other things with my Tech2
After talking to the previous owner they said they changed out the radio and never added it. Is there anyway I can add it?
Yep you can add it with the tech2. Check this video here towards the end: th-cam.com/video/PdLDlQOehAQ/w-d-xo.html
@@AutoAutopsy Great thank you! Let's hope I don't need security access since they just changed out an ICM2 with another ICM2. Thanks so much!
Hey, I'm having a issue with my 06 9-3 the interior lights click on the off, the SID says "steering lock malfunction" and then "key not accepted" I bypassed the ignition by depressing the spring in the switch to turn everything on, the gas gauge reads "e" and the climate control consent boot up. Any advise would help!
Sounds like it’s a lot of little things. Could be a bad CIM and the gas gauge is most likely the fuel level sender
@@AutoAutopsy Yeah, I figured out the problem it was a faulty ism. Thank you.
I have a 06 Saab 9-3 2.0t wagon 5 speed manual..I have good spark, fuel, compression and timing is good ..new fuel pump, new starter and crank sensor..was previously getting a p0300 code(using a cheap generic code scanner) but now the car only cranks and won't start unless using some type of starter fluid but will only run for a few seconds..what is the problem?
throttle body? ECU maybe?
@@AutoAutopsy idk dude, the shop that my car is at said they can't help me at this point and that they believe its the ECU but can't find one or get anyone to program it for me..I meant to add that the injectors are pulsing when trying to crank the car too..so I'm a try and get a ECU from the junk yard and see if I can do the work myself..this is crazy and I don't won't to sell or junk the car
@@AutoAutopsy ok so the shop had a Saab guy come in and now my Saab is up and running 😁..they said the fuel injector circuit inside the ECM needed to be reprogrammed or something.. however now I'm getting to much fuel pressure through my return line..don't know how that is..would like your input please
what program did you use on the laptop and is it available for download on a newer windows laptop?
i paid Richard LaBarre to install it for me; i am not very tech savvy
do u need a laptop computer that has disc reader to download the TiiS security access, because i have new laptop with no Disc reader
no you can just download it online
hi everybody! i bought a brand new ECU for my vauxhall astra 1.7cdti with the same part number as old one,but i dont know if the new ECU"s come out from factory with the software already written on it ,or first it need to be downloaded by a garage technician, and after programmed to my car??? for programming its enough if i have the security code of my car? thx!
i have no idea how the vauxhalls work, but with saab, the factory software is already on it since its a used ecu
@@AutoAutopsy the ecu is new(not second hand) in its box! the question is if it has the software already written in it!?
Does anyone know of a mechanic that does this ecm marriage process in Southern CA? I'm in San Diego. 04 Saab 9-3.
Is the same process for 9-5 ????? Thanks in advance
nope, og95 is different, ng95 is also different.
no
Can’t find any video how to do it in og 9-5
@@TheSaab04 but it's not only as simple as adding ECU mostly. Do you have the same software for same engine / power in the replacement ECU?
For adding it then in 95 you don't even need a computer. Just the tech2. Unless it's 2006+
@@PeterChomanic mine is a 2005
9/5 aero
The ecu I want to married is from a 2006 9-5 aero
Ha, Nice!
:)
Where can i get a tech 2 and how much is it because i have a p1 609 and a p1 616 code along with $07e9 and $07e8 codes i need help please
I bought mine on aliexpress. If you are only getting it for the ecu marriage, I’d recommend using the other method I mentioned
@@AutoAutopsy thank you so much because my problem is my car is throwing a ecm code along with a transmission control module code but everything still runs and drives just fine
有刷程序的视频吗?
This *is* a video on programming it..

Trouble is that tech 2 costs as much as the saab,🤣. Never seen those alloys before they ain't rite 🤔
it's like $300 for a tech2 lol
So what is a good video for getting global tis on a windows 10 computer. I've watched weakest links vid and have recieved help from richard labarre and we can't get it to work for some reason.
I am half tempted to just say screw it and buy the subscription from ORIO 😂
Install TIS software in a virtual PC which has Windows XP installed. That is how I've solved it.
i paid richard to do it; sorry im not a tech wizard
