    The other method you mentioned is the one I used. My original ECM died 4 years ago (car's an '03) and my initial plan was to program a replacement using a Tech 2. When I went on eBAY though, Tech 2s were something like 3500 USD, and I'm from Romania where that's 3 to 5 Months average salary (that wasn't even including shipping).
    So I looked up instead the T8 CAN Flasher, which I ran from my GFs laptop. The advantage to that one is, you can pretty much run it from any modern laptop via an OBDII cable.
    The disadvantage is that it doesn't actually program a replacement, it clones an old ECU onto another one. So if your old one is bricked internally to the point where it doesn't get power or something, you're screwed.
    In my case, it was an Internal fault (the ECM would no longer trigger anything on the car, no fuel pump, no starter, turning key would do nothing), but the ID chip in it still worked, so that software actually managed to copy the vehicle ID from it and print it onto a junkyard replacement I found.
    An added benefit is that the software can save your vehicle ID as a proprietary file, so if you managed to pull it from the original ECM, and can hold on to the laptop or the software, you can pretty much repeat the procedure at any point while skipping the extremely suspenseful part of waiting for the program to pull the ID data from the car :)

      Did you have to keep the ecu installed to the car while flashing or you used connector to hook the ecu directly to the laptop ?

    • @vtr0104
      @vtr0104 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AbdulSamad-rf5lh In both cases the ECUs were connected to the car.
      The cable I mentioned is a USB on one end and an OBD II on the other, so there is no way to connect it directly (the ECU has 2 plugs on top for some rectangular BOSCH connectors).
      If there is someone who knows what all those pins do and came up with a direct cable for them, then that's some lvl 12 intellect.
      But in the case of us mortals, you keep the old one in, connect to the car through OBD II under the steering column, copy, disconnect, uninstall old ECU from the car, install replacement, connect to car via OBD II again, flash it with data of old ECU and hope for the best.

    Had an 05 ARC vert almost identical. Best ride. Totally fell in love with Saabs because of those 5yrs and 60k miles on that baby. What an amazing car.

    • @MassiveTrackHunter
      @MassiveTrackHunter 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine had the same thing around 190k, with codes 0301, 0302, 0303, 0304.
      Blew a ton of smoke from being flooded with fuel. Only drove it a mile home. ECU replaced, resolved.
      Btw, mine still had 210+ psi cold compression on all 4 cyl, which is still within factory specs. Amazing for how I hammered it up every entrance ramp and straightaway during those 60k miles! Great car.

    Thanks for the vid, just a word of advise for anyone with a cloned Tech2 (like me) never try and update the firmware of the ecu, i did learn the hard way and bricked my ecu, Lucky for me i tripped on the trionictuner site those guys really helped me out and i managed to recover my bricked ecu. And one more thing always put a charger when doing any programming you never know what can go wrong for example programming a module and the car fan goes off dropping the voltage and bricking a module, just a headsup

      @@wofy1970what is this t8 suit to can you speak of?. I am in Australia so I'm in your position 😂 tech2 at $3500USD for me is like me buying my saab 9-3turbo 2005 model 4 and a half more times haha 😂 plus no import saab parts here.. so i was thinking about swapping to a haltech ECU, and using can bus to control everything so I can delete out oem saab things like sensors, throttle bodies, maf delete, boost control, duty cycle control and fuel map control, timing control, and piggy back the factory ECU or bms for body controls and a.c. and dash and interior functions...
      And I only want to do that, if no one is jail breaking the own ecu, and rewriting that, the way we rewrite ford barra turbo ecu's here in Australia and GM Ls5.7 ecu's, we jailbreak and rewrite them... has this been done for saab yet? And why not?

    The Saab shop I use has started removing the engine cover to expose the ECU to more airflow but they don't tell the customer that they did so. I found my cover in the cargo area of my Combi a couple of weeks after service! Same thing with my friends 9-3. Didn't tell him either. It's probably a good idea even though I installed the spacer kit on my car.

    great job ! I watched your video several times , the only thing I missed you do is plug the Tech2 back in after getting security on the tech2.I am replacing ECM on 2008 9-3 AERO 2.8 V6 tomorrow ,I also have a Tech2 that is what I am going to use . This is my first Saab , I use the tech2 all the time on older gm cars and trucks it is a great tool for that era of GM . My only question is ... doing a 4 cyl and 6cyl is it the same procedure? You are doing a great job on your videos . The Saab I am doing is my own. Its a beautiful car, My Snap-on Verus Pro does not even have a scan tab for it!!!! Autel Ultra and Autel MS 909 does ! My engine light was on and the OBC said it was the EGR valve. I changed it, cleaned the manifold and replaced the tubo shaft sensor. I cleared the error on my OBC, but after two hours it came back on. Can my ECU be faulty causing my engine light to light up? If I change the ECU will it correct the error? Thanks in advance for the reply. I have a 2006 Saab 9-3 9.3tdi estate wagon. It is like new other than the engine light. I go back and reset it, and it gives the EGR valve error, but it is brand new.

I’m going to have to take the ignition switch apart and disable the pin that locks the switch. I’ll still get power when I turn the key to the on position but it won’t start the car. I’m going to install a push button switch with an inline fuse and wire one end to the battery and the other to the starter relay in the fuse box. I hope this works because it is a pain in the ass to take the center console apart…Any knowledgable suggestions would be appreciated!
