    Can you use the Rules feature to organise emails from certain senders into folders instead of mail boxes?

    Hi Why occasional emails go to my icloud folder, not my regular gmail or all mail. I usually endup missing them.
    Thanks so much

      Not sure. Check your settings, and also your rules, both on your local machine and on iCloud.

    is there a way to receive just gmails primary mail in apple mail?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean that thing Gmail does where it breaks the inbox into sections? No. You need to use their web interface for that.

    Thanks great vid! if I add gmails to icloud mail account, will the filters I apply in gmail also apply to my view in icloud?

  • @mehmd1913

    Gmail allows you to add a string of emails to the same filter, you add a separator | in between the email addresses. Can this be done in iCloud mail?

    Could we back up the Emails onto an external hard drive?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a very complex thing. It largely depends on what your email service is, and also what you mean by backing up, how you want the process to work, how often, how many, etc. Not simple.

      Not sure what you mean. You can access Gmail in the Mail app like any other service. Any email app should be able to handle Gmail. You can also access the Gmail web site in Safari.

    wish there was some specific examples. Can you have the provider filter multiple words in 1 rule? what does that actually look like?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Take a look at what your provider has. Each email service is different so it is hard to provide examples.

    Is there a way to export gmail filters and import them into mac mail?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope. Even if you could, the types of rules don't match up since they are different systems.

    • @kendjordan
      @kendjordan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@macmost good point. Writing an app to bridge two BNF rule sets may be intellectually fun, but perhaps not worth the effort. I just happen to have a lot of rules in gmail.

      Depends on your email service. But with iCloud and Gmail, just use the Archive button when you are done reading the email.

    Probably a silly question but what I'm trying to avoid is setting up rules for essentially all of my various email accounts, as I believe this is a little counter-intuitive. As all of my accounts are connected using IMAP, is the method you've shown at the start of the video simply just for iCloud email account? Hope this makes sense.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are using multiple accounts across multiple services, there's no way for one to know about the settings for another.

    Good Vid! What would be better is to be able to check your address book to see if the "From:" is a valid email address (also a good phone number if that is the "From:"). If good the route wherever, else, delete or route to junk/spam/questionable, etc. Scripting with SQL or grep might be a viable solution.

    Very nice informative video. Made the mistake of trying to create rules in outlook 365 connected to my icloud via imap. Outlook failed and lost hundreds of emails from both local folders AND the server. Should have followed your video first by creating rules on server rather than client (used to work just fine in my old corporate account connected to exchange server).
