He has severe bipolar disorder, was a drug addict, and endured a vicious divorce that made the other two problems worse. The album this song appears on is the first one in his recovery phase
Blue October has been my church for 20+ years! Their music has definitely saved my life a few times 💙 And, being a part of the Blue October family has given me some of the best friends I’ve ever had. The Blue Family held me close during some of the hardest times of my life. I literally listen to this band daily!!! They have songs & lyrics for EVERY situation.

The acoustic version of I Hope You're Happy is one of my favorites! 7th floor balcony live is also amazing! Ugly Side, The Answer, HSRA... wait until you hear their violin player. His story about mental illness, addiction, bad relationship, losing his daughter, forgiveness and redemption is a testament to his strength.
I have a love and respect for this band because they are such good people with awesome music that makes for genuine loyal fans 💙💙 I'm a recovering addict and have also struggled with anxiety depression and grief. Their music has gotten me thru so many hard days and even more important, has helped me thru just the next 5 minutes. Would love to see more Blue October on your channel. I just subbed . There is another acoustic version video that is about 12 minutes. It goes deep into how the song came to him while in rehab. I think that is the version that was meant to be recommended. It in amazing story and inspirational. It helped a loved one clean up and now he is helping others as his career. He asked Justin in person during a concert if he could have his permission to show the "Get Back Up" documentary by Blue October as part of his counseling sessions and Justin said "By ALL means!!".
