My favorite by Juice Newton. Her voice! The gentleness, power, vulnerability, high and low notes. She can put that all in one song, and it's effortless and absolutely beautiful.
This was her best I think. Her partner Otha Young wrote it for her. The two were involved romantically for years and Juice didn’t realize till later that she actually inspired the song. Young also said he wanted to compose a really classic country song,,,, damn, did he succeed.
Love this song. Wonderful reaction by you guys. If you want more Juice Newton, do these: Love's Been a Little Bit Hard on Me, Break it to Me Gently, and It's a Heartache.
This song, what's clearly a country western tune, is a great example of why the kids who grew up in the 80's have such a wide range of musical tastes. This song was a big Top 40 hit that got lots of radio play on pop stations. In the early to mid 80's you could have Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, Journey, Barry Manilow, George Benson, Kool and the Gang, Sheena Easton, and Foreigner all in the Top 10, such VERY different sounds but all so good.
That's a good point. I grew up in the 60s and 70s, and if you search Wikipedia for the top 100 songs of each year (which I've done) you will find an astonishing range of material. All kids who listened to radio back then (and that's all we had to listen to LOL) heard rock, pop, country, soul, jazz, Broadway, gospel, instrumental, even classical. We had hit songs sung in German, Japanese, French, "world music." One of the bad things about our modern music delivery system is that it very quickly sorts listeners into specific silos so they end up hearing the same type of music continuously. I'm really grateful I got to hear Kitty Wells and Janis Joplin and Sinead O'Connor. Timi Yuro and Brenda Lee and Linda Ronstadt and Aretha Franklin. The Archies and the Beatles and the Monkees and the Rolling Stones. Nirvana and Johnny Cash singing Nirvana. Thank you, AM/FM.
My grandmother use to play that song alot a few decades back before she passed. This song is so beautiful that it can bring tears to your eyes. Her voice the music and lyrics are just amazing. I heard the comp. of this song was actually created by her guitarist Just wow what a song.
I met my Husband on a blind date Nov. 22nd 1980. We were married Feb. 1st 1981. We would hold each other close and slow dance to this beautiful song. I always tear up when i hear it. We had 39 years,3 months and 7 days together. I miss him so much. I Love you Buster my Darlin. ❤
I was 7 when this song came out. My mother was huge fan of Juice Newton. This took me back to Saturdays cleaning and singing with the vinyls. Thank you. Now, I am in tears.
This is my favorite song to sing when doing karaoke. Love me some Juice Newton. I Didn't know she was a country singer. Learn something new every day. Good stuff!!
That is one of the most beautiful vocals in the past century. It’s been years since I last heard that song but it still moves me as much as the first time I heard it in the late 80s. It played on the pop stations back then so I never even thought of it as country western. It’s just good music that crosses all boundaries. Thanks for sharing this one.
As someone else mentioned, you should really check out "Break It To Me Gently". I promise, you will love it.Her voice may be even more incredible on that one.
Juice Newton has such an amazing voice! She definitely made the early '80's a great time to love music! 🎶 Amber, I love it when you put your hands on your headphones, smile (with that ear-to-ear grin) and sway to the music. You show your pure joy when you do that...thank you for sharing that with us.
A feather in Juice's cap for us 80's fans was the fact that her songs played on the pop music radio stations just as much as they did on the country music stations. Those of us who were listening to Donna Summers and Madonna were also swooning to Juice's songs and never realized we were listening to country music.
Oh man I love Juice ......my first concert at 13 she opened for Alabama.......awesome time 🕊️💜. She is just as beautiful and has just as powerful a voice live 😊
A good friend of ours used to sing this song so well, she was a singer in clubs. My heart goes out to her, now deceased. Thank you sweeties for playing this song.👍♥️♥️♥️
This has to be one of the finest power ballads ever recorded. Juice's vocal ability is a force to be reckoned with, especially in this song. "Angel of the Morning" also showcases it and both performances are filled with a passion that's rarely found these days. Interestingly, this version has a slightly more country sound with the steel guitar and a few other touches which is different from the version I have. This was a crossover hit and I heard it on pop/rock radio in the early 80's so most likely there were remixes for the different station formats. Juice does a great job with her version of Brenda Lee's "Break it to me Gently" as well.
I grew up listening to Juice Newton. I'm 47 now, so she was on the radio when I was a kid. I've always loved this song. Thanks for the reaction. Loved it.
This has always been my favorite Juice Newton song. I love it! I've seen a few others in the comments suggesting "Break It To Me Gently" for your next Juice Newton song and I have to agree. Also, (for more Country songs), I know you both like Alabama and its been a while. I know you would LOVE "Tennessee River" since you love when they throw in some fiddle.
I love Juice Newton. I saw her in concert and used to listen to her album all the time. It never gets old. Her voice and storytelling. Of course i had to sing along.
You two guys are awesome. Juice Newton has one of the most beautiful voices I’ve ever heard. I saw her play a tiny club in Folsom, CA about ten years ago and it was just incredible.
This original version of The Sweetest Thing with the steel guitar is the absolute best Juice Newton song. I love all Juice Newton songs & Juice Newton is 1 of my very all-time favorite singers.
Juice was very big (like her hair) crossover pop/country artist in the first half of the 80's. "Love's Been A Little Hard On Me" & "Tell Her No" are a couple of her up-tempo songs. "Break It To Me Gently" is another killer ballad. Any of them are good to react to.
I've known my precious Angel wife,, for 50+ Years,, all her life. I Watched her grow up, and become the most beautiful Creature eyes can conceive. I was singing in bars,, just a Wiskey crooner at best, when this touching song came out. I decided to try and sing this to my Queen,, one foggy, cool, mtn morn,, and just as the first rays of sunshine burned through and into our bedroom window.. I'll never forget The sweetness of that smile, and the Priceless tears that followed from those Emerald green eyes.. My GOD HOW BLESSED I AM! and what a Song from such a wonderful, Beautiful Lady. She presented me a gift for sure. Thanks Juice,, You gave me a memory, Thats burned into my heart through eternity my dear. My entire heart, and soul,, pledged to my Sweetluv lil Mtn Momma FOREVER.. ❤❤😊
Oh my goodness! I saw this and got so excited. I haven't heard this song in so many years, brings back great memories. Juice Newton had alot of hits. An amazing voice!
Always loved her from the first time she hit the music scene. This is my favorite song by Juice. And also a favorite song to my husband 😊 we've been together 46 years this month,! The first time i heard this song when it first came out on the radio...i told him... this would be a lifelong song from me to him. And my number one i dedicate to him is the beautiful song that Clint Black and his beautiful wife sing together "When I Said I Do". 😊❤
Amber, your expression in the first part of this song is the way I feel every time I hear it. I loved her version of Angel of the Morning, but this one is an emotional fiesta! Her voice, the precious lyrics, the way she exemplified perfect timing and control. Now I'll go find my husband of 45 years and kiss his sweet face ❤
I love the "vocal cry" comment. Spot on. The song always makes me cry. I hadn't heard it in 30 years or so. Thank you for bringing it back for me. I have never seen you two applaud after a reaction. Wonderful.
My goodness, this brings back memories of my early teen years! I had forgotten all about Juice Newton until today, watching your reaction. Thank you so much for sharing your reactions with me and for the lovely memories you brought back.
You need to hear You Make Me Wanna Make You Mine! Juice Newton is one of my favorite artists! She is country but has crossed over to the pop charts many times!!!
Wonderful review, thanks so much for covering this song. I, too, am absolutely blown away by Juice Newton’s voice! I so wish that she was still touring, but her website says she does not perform live anymore.
I loved her back then & even now!!! She was on pop/easy listening stations - back then called MOR, "Middle of the Road" ~~ country stations ~ rock stations. She was simply GREAT!!! one of the best songs to slow dancing to!
Love you guys talking about the movement of the voice, the cry, the strength...remember when you started, both of you musically have grown so much, makes me happy to see all that, you two are great.
Love Juice Newton, she has one of the best voices I've ever heard. I think ya'll will love "Break it to me Gently" I'm 66years old and love your channel, keep on keeping on!!
Thank you guys! I'm a big Juice Newton fan, and this is my favorite song of hers, one of my all0time favorites, period. Besides her incredible vocals, it's just a beautiful romantic song, a mature, adult romantic song. If you want another vocal powerhouse song by her, listen to her cover of Break It To Me Gently. Just fantastic!
Juice Newton was an incredible singer. I think it’s a testament to just how good she was that most every one of her songs did extremely well on both the pop and country charts. One you definitely need to check out is “Break It To Me Gently”. If this song put her voice on your map of great female country singers, “Break It To Me Gently” will absolutely blow you away. For something fun and a little different, you should also check out The Carpenters “Sweet Sweet Smile”, which was written by Juice Newton before she really became a star in her own right. It’s a fun and catchy song, and you’ll enjoy The Carpenters with a country flare. When a voice and songwriting talent like Juice Newton meets the voice of Karen Carpenter, you KNOW you can’t go wrong. 😊❤
Recorded first in May, 1976 by Country Singer, Dottsy of Seguin TX. it reached 86 on the Country Charts that year. "The Sweetest Thing" was her debut album.
Great song! Check out “Break It To Me Gently” next, another knockout.
Oh yes!!
Yep, 🔥🔥🔥. The original by Brenda Lee is 🔥 too. I like to listen to them back to back.
"Loves Been a Little Bit Hard on Me." I think this was off the same album. early 80s
@@colty7764Cool video to that song.

Yes! One of my favorite videos. Mike Nesmith from The Monkees directed the video.
My favorite by Juice Newton. Her voice! The gentleness, power, vulnerability, high and low notes. She can put that all in one song, and it's effortless and absolutely beautiful.
My favorite of hers, too❤😊

She is amazing! Excellent choice! Watching Jay watching Amber swoon to near tears, "The sweetest thing is loving you." - what a moment!
Love Juice Newton. Another great female artist, Anne Murray.
❤😊❤
A little good news
Anne's version of Danny's Song (from Midnight Special) is perfect. Can I Have This Dance, Snowbird and Love Song are also must react to songs
@@gregduhon9509 Wonderful song 💖

Wow, just thinking the same thing. Now that I'm hearing it again I'm putting it on my play list.

Love’s Been A Little Bit Hard On Me! The video is 😅.
