This movie makes more sense if you're old and remember the 60's. There was probably one major air crash every year involving a 727 or some other plane. There was no GPS or auto-pilot that could fly you through the waypoints on your navigation screen like in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. Now aircrashes are extremely rare events and aircraft like the Airbus A320 are highly computerized and much safer.
In 70s there were quite a few crashes of a certain model of plane and also a lot if ship sinking events. Anyway, anything made by humans is not perfect, so just expect malfunctions and accidents will happen.
Interesting to know. I was a young child in the 60s. I flew on airplanes many times. I only remember the glass dishes, metal silverware, and chocolate pudding.

Wow, this was nothing like the book, Fate is the Hunter, by Ernest K. Gann. The book was awesome. After watching this mess of a movie, the one thing I can't figure out is who in the film-making chain thought it was a good idea to use a fake airplane with the engines mounted to the horizontal stabilizer? Were they afraid that if they used a real aircraft model they'd be sued by the aircraft manufacturer? I'd only recommend this movie to fellow airline industry employees who love poking fun at all of the made up stuff.
Son of Airline employee here. The movie and acting were fine. OTOH that plane was designed by someone who did what they were told and not what a plane should look like. Don’t remember the book, probably read it 50 years ago.
They intentionally made it look nothing like any real plane from Boeing, Douglas, or Lockheed for obvious reasons. Same thing with the movie "No Highway in the Sky." The movie was not nearly as good as the book. Too many cameos for one thing.
I was standing in line to vote last month and a candidate for County SomeingOrOther was making his way down the que and as we were chatting, he mentioned that one of his past day jobs was as a Crash Investigator for the FAA (after his Air Force tour) and he still enjoyed plane crash documentaries. You may not today but in the 60s and 70s people were a lot nicer
It's a tragic world out there for children
Yall leave out the forced invasion of the third world on the first and the forced integration of folks who should have been repatriated and separated after emancipation.

Earthquake poseidon adventure!

Drama!
Especially in 1993, when they bombed the parking lot..
I like the fact most people smoked back then. They looked so much more refined and sophisticated. Smoking makes for a better society than the one now where few people smoke, but culture and manners have disappeared.
Are you out of your mind? Yeah, cancer is sooo old school cool, right?
Tumors and an early death, but hey they looked stylish! Holy crap!
I really miss hearing that deep bronchial death rattle every morning for four years when I was in the military. My roommate practically coughed up a lung. He smoked at least two packs a day. I'm certain he is long dead. I run from secondhand smoke.😮 (No I don't miss it one little bit)
Trashing nicotine addicts ushered in the era of bad manners.
Oh, you're a genius.
@@FiveBlackFootedFerrets Apparently you don't understand how a thread works. I've never smoked, and I wasn't replying to you.
Hollywood still produced B& W movie in 1964. Surprise ? This film is good but not great. Why did n't smell detector function as short circuit always produce burning smell
Unwatchable - too many ads! Thumbs down and unsubscribed.
This isn't an airport. You don't have to announce your departure.

I stated that I was an old movie buff and what did he think of "Fate is the Hunter" ? He just rolled his eyes and something pretty disparaging. I voted for him anyway.
is that not suzanne plachette ?
YES it is!

Fate is a hunter never forget it.
I watched this movie during its first release, mid-1960s, yet I have long forgotten it ….. which is why I’m all set to watch it again right now. Oh, I used to like Glenn Ford back then, well remember is “Experiment in Terror” with Lee Remick (and the music by Henri Mancini ?) Well, well, well …. am 77 of age now, thankful to be able to enjoy a wide choice of old-is-gold movies on youtube !
SO IT REALLY WAS PILOT ERROR. THE PILOT PUT A CUP OF COFFEE ON A SPOT THAT HAD CRITICAL ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS UNDERNEATH IT. THE AIRLINE WAS NEGLIGENT BY NOT HAVING A CUP HOLDER IN A PROPER SPOT.
This wouldn't be considered a pilot error.
We *can* read lower case letters.
Airlines don't build planes.

Yep, may day emergency gets first priority, all other flights would have been told to clear the airspace.
This is not an English movie. This is an American movie. Learn the difference.
