Frederick March sure had gravitas..What a moving film. My father escaped a Nazi forced labor camp. He wound up in Belgium. The Army CO of the US refugee camp helped him get to America..
happy to hear he made it out and found compassionate humans. I hope he wasn't too burdened by the memories.
Ah, another ‘true’ TH-cam story …
@@beneleonhard7915You needn’t worry - the guy is making this up. Happens far too often now on TH-cam.
Fredric March was America's most accomplished actor..Many Thanks for posting this film..!
You're welcome
March, Ford, Sullavan and Von Stroheim were Hollywood big-hitters. To have all of them in one film is rare treat.
BEYOND SUPERB, You cant call them Actors.....when they are alive in every moment......what a gift xxx
When I watched movies like this in the past as a young girl, I knew at that time just how fortunate I was to live with my parents and where we lived was heaven compared to the hardships all of the people in both wars had to go through. Having watched this one that I've never seen before, reinstated the long ago held belief that my problems are nothing compared to what they went through. So well written and acted, the bleakness of the black and white really drove home the wretchedness of it all and, all the while many maintaining their resolve, stealing happiness at every turn they could. To see such a young Glen - so clean and freshed face and the hopes of a great career and Fredric Marsh a consummate actor both played off each other so very well. In those days they knew the real importance of family and love compared to what we see today. Both ladies delivered their roles in its emotional upheaval they had to live through as well. It touched my heart and thank you for this upload.
Unfortunately my dear it's starting all over again. The lockups in 2020 was just the beginning. If the fascist W H O gets it's way they'll be more worldwide lockups anytime they say & forced v a x & v a x passports & those that refuse will be treated as criminals & refused access to food & travel worse than 2020 & even lockup camps like we had in Australia that people had to pay for who were locked up. The future is very bleak for the younger generations.
These actors are excellent and a joy to watch, thank you for posting this, so many of them proved to be great and a gift to our society.
Our pleasure!
As an 69yr old man of 1/4 German heritage, and an Aunt(RIP Aunt Hedy)who was from Austria, this film is much appreciated!
Subscribed immediately! And I think I see the Eiffel Tower! ... maybe...
Thank you for sharing.
I haven’t seen this one before. Thanks for the post. This was one of the early films that the studios made to try to awaken America to the up coming Nazis threat to Europe and the world.
Sadly seem they are now in hibernation , snowing snowflake

Fredrick March was a carnival barker, a tender loving husband, a patriot and a bon vivant. Great actor.
He was all those things, but the Canadian Glenn Ford stole the show in this film. He was brilliant!
So Ends The Night ! What a heartfelt classic ! And that ending , takes your breath away in a horrifying but understandable way . And Fredric March, was memorizing ! And Glenn Ford, what a welcome treat ! Thank You so much for this film .
Glen Ford...I had never seen him so young, until a few months ago..HAD A BIG CRUSH ON HIM❤...when I was 14 and he was about 40😅😅 I didn't know how old he was then😅
Wonderful film, really sad.Really sad what? What dictators can do to people's lives ruining twe're on them.Thank you for a fine film
Wonderful film- and a real surprise with Glen Ford. March and von Stroheim are excellent as expected.
Thanks for posting this.
Glad you enjoyed it
For m=e Frediric March is the greatest American actor of all followed by Spencer Tracey
🥰Thank you👍Always enjoy watching the great and talented Erich von Stroheim 🥰Good cast 🥰

This is such a good and moving movie! Shows how we still need to fight the forces who threaten democracy!!

Oh, I absolutely adore this film!
Very good movie ...Absolutely Yes !!!
Tks for posting ✔️
80+ years later and what has changed in this wretched world? They call themselves by different names but the result is still the same
I think the actors on the stage of time stink worse now, and can no longer hide their doings.

Thank you for sharing this film with us. A mind-wrenching set in motion by cataclysmic political events, social obstacles and yet, despite the plethora of negative events, grim determination surrounded by strangers but seemingly all grasping for dear life to hope for, a fight for, working for, outwitting the opposition for a more positive, life affirming outcome. Knowing it was a movie, knowing Eric Maria Remarque's novel set the idea up and knowing several of the actors other films were way diverse from this one, my head, heart, spirit and raison d'être became s deeply personal hope the characters succeeded in their relentless pursuit of their own personal secure journey. Wrung out like a wet dishrag here. Frederick March, Margaret Sullivan, Glenn Ford and supporting cast worked their magic.❤🎉😊

A Fabulous film so well-portrayed on so many levels from start to finish.👌
Young Glenn Ford, here at 25yo, and remarkable Fredric March delivering precision performances. 👍
Ditto for talented Margaret Sullavan, and with beautiful cameos by stunning Frances Dee....!!! 😍
Erich von Stroheim perfectly cast in his classic stoicism, where Thank God that the Allied Forces were finally able to crush the destructive scourge of the truly evil Nazi 3rd Reich. 💪 Who are slowly reemerging with today's *WEF????* 😱
A wonderful film with a good cast. I really enjoyed watching this. Thank you for posting this.
Glad you enjoyed it
From a 1939 novel " Flotsam " by Erich Maria Remarque , filmed in 1940 , released Feb 1941.
To get their own back on Remarque for "All Quiet...", the Nazis arrested his sister and used a trumped-up treason charge to behead her in 1943.
And the Soviet Union was invaded on June 22, 1941 while WWII began for the U.S. when Pearl Harbor was bombed on December 7, 1941.
Ah, the wonderful writer!
The most saddest thing I have ever seen is when human beings destroy their own people and human souls 😢
Call it a weakness
Call it a weakness
Call it a weakness
All by design.
It's happening now.
My parents met in a refugee camp in Austria
Thank you for the great movie.
But so much suffering.

Excellent film , they don't make them like that . Looking forward to read the book as well. Thank you !
many thanks for the upload. i've read remarque's all quiet western front a couple times. but for this flick i wouldn't have known about his novel. "flotsam". again, thanks. now to watch!

A beautiful film which I have not seen before. The combined stories are very human and universal.
Read this book in college in the 70s...loved it and also the writer. Will watch it tonight.
By the way, his shorter book Heaven has no Favorites is also a must read.
Regards, from India
A beautiful story.
Not normally my kind of movie, but I started watching it and got sucked in. Thoughly enjoyed it.
Brilliant movie thanks for posting.
Or pleasure!
Wow a young Glenn Ford and a very accomplished Frederic March. We will not understand the times of WWII nor the strength to survive something so sad. Our time will bring new challenges and doubtful we will act with compassion or care for others

Oooops. Meant May 2025.
Fantastic movie. Superb acting by all. Still amazes me how 1 country and a handful of evil men could destroy so many peoples lives in just about every country in Europe for almost a whole decade. I hope it never happens again on such a large scale.
I hope it never happens again on ANY scale.

first movie I ever liked Glen Ford in.
Great film!
Nella versione italiana, come sottofondo musicale all'addio a Maria, c'è l'Adagio della Quinta Sinfonia di Gustav Mahler. Poi utilizzata da Luchino Visconti per "Morte a Venezia".
War is hell is right
Great Author almost Orwellian
great movie but wow soooo many ads
13.99 plus tax a month. No ads except the ones some Creators embed. I can't find a better way to spend .50 cents a day than TH-cam Premium.
I agree 100% this is the best deal out there for cord cutters. I was paying $70 a month just for TCM on TH-cam TV. I paid that for months then I got wise and dumped it. Now I pay $13.99 and get to see movies TCM would never show like this gem.
I subscribed to premium. So worth it.
@@raymondcaylor6292 I simply mute and glance away, zero cost + gives my eyes a rest from staring at a screen.
Me, too; that's what I did!
Hi, supposedly a local carousel was used in this movie. Where in the movie can it be seen?
58 minutes in?
Great movie! Love old movies! Could you possibly please post more Clark Gable, Bette Davis and Joan Crawford films? I would greatly appreciate that!
We'd love to, but those movies are owned by the major studios, and they won't license them to us. Thanks for writing.
Very interesting film
Thanks for watching
A film about a terrible time and people who were genuine refugees fleeing terror. Not the economic migrants of today invading Europe, passing through a half dozen countries to settle in their preferred country of refuge with the best benefits.
(Cue TH-camr outrage from the human rights lobbyists)
0:01 Oh the Irony! The movie starts, and what's the first thing I see? The Nakba! How relevant in so many ways this movie is in 2024 only 87 years later. Dictators are still in place😢
These ads, how ever do they expect sell with this somber movie, dismissed in a moment,
I feel that way about commercials but have no say in how many TH-cam inserts into our movies. Please keep in mind that we have to pay to license the movies and they only way we can afford is by depending on ad revenue, or pennies from TH-cam Premium. Personally, I subscribed to TH-cam Premium ($12.99/month), which allows me to everything on TH-cam without commercials. Ad blockers = no revenue = no channel, so please subscribe and give us another try.

Can anyone please identify the piano and violin solos played by Glen Fords mother and the man in the window after the baby's birth?

Prevod
Glenn Ford is such a nice Jewish boy.
It seems that Germany did not learn their History lesson, 1904 the German empire Namibia The Herero and Namas people, 1940's well, everyone has heard of that one, and now 2024 full support for their favorite humans exterminate their least favorite humanity. This movie was released with a very specific mission, and it accomplished it's mission Very effectively.
