      which adam monitors are you comparing the Kali LP6s to?

  • @kaliaudio

    It's a 6.5-Inch woofer. The "7-inch" woofer in the T7V (and HS-7 while we're at it) is the exact same size. Some people round up, we round down.

      Kali! I'd love to see Barry do a review of the IN-8s. I've been debating those. Any chance you can make that happen?

    One thing that Kali did right, is the instructions on the back. If you are new to production or just want to get the job done quick, the dip switch visuals easily help get you a better listening position depending on your room. Their new subwoofer is compact and powerful. The front ports might also be better for most home studios that have little room. From what I understand high end monitors are very efficient while low end monitors are more inefficient. In other words, good monitors will make it easier for you to make decisions while mixing. Now of course, room treatment and ear training all come together. But for most people, these monitors are perfect to grow into over the years.

    I like these monitors just fine! I don’t see a downside. I really like a company that tries so hard to be competitive but with quality! We need more of this!

    I have the original LP6’s and i am still happy, you grow with them your ears 👂 gets tuned automatically, external factors come to play like your room size vs placement.ultimately i find referencing nd casual listening to other material will speed up the process.

    Barry! I knew I recognized your name. I bought a ULN-2 from you many years ago. Glad to see you're doing well. Appreciate the review! Getting back into audio after an extended hiatus, and trying to narrow down my first pair of monitors.

    • @persistentconsistency
      @persistentconsistency ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BarryJohns Indeed, it was a GS transaction haha! That MH unit was unbelievable. Life changed quickly and I ended dup selling everything and diving deep into my career. But, I'm back!
      While I have you, do you have any experience and/or thoughts about the Focal Alpha Evo lineup? I've spent a lot of time looking at the spinorama data on the Evos, HS8's, Kali's lineup, the Adam TxV models, and a few higher-priced nuts from Neumann and Genelec. I've decided to hold off on the pricier stuff (Genelec and Neumann), so I'm looking in that $400 to $1000 range.
      I'm sort of leaning Focal 65 Evo or 80 Evo, but it's so tough to make these decisions when you can't demo gear. No options for such an arrangement in my area. I've listened to a bunch of shootouts on the DS Audio TH-cam page, but we know how fickle that pursuit is lol. If I'm honest and had to make a decision within 30 seconds, I'd probably grab one of the Evo models, but the Kali and Yamaha models sounded great to me as well. I'll be recording vocals and mixing, and hope to eventually add a subwoofer to ease the load on the satellite woofers and allow for more more headroom with less distortion. It's not that I wanna crank em up, I'm just currently under the impression that adding a light amount of sub action will give me a full picture as necessary (Hip Hop/EDM), and improve clarity as the monitor woofers spend less effort giving me low-end info.
      Anyway, let me know your thoughts, please!? I'll be doing my recording in our living room for now, so a little bit more open of a space than in previous years (bedroom), but won't have the option to do a ton of acoustic treatment for now. I'm torn between models and woofer sizes, and really just want to make a decent decision to set myself up to really take advantage of this setup in the next year after I move and can toss up treatment at-will. Thanks in an advance for any insight you're able and will to offer!

    Good video...just found your channel searching through repair videos for the KRK monitors that I'm retiring after 12 years of faithful service. I've purchased the LP6's as a replacement. As I've heard these units in a friend's studio I will say they will be great for anyone. The thing about entry-level monitors is that like all monitors, you have to KNOW them in order to get the mix right. After using my same monitors for so long, I know what they are capable and incapable of. That is the secret to good monitors-to know what you're hearing will be close to what someone else will hear on playback elsewhere.

    I know I will not be the only one to make this observation, but at least on this video I’ll be the first:
    The production values of your videos are absolutely top-tier professional. The lighting is spot-on (no pun intended): key lighting, back lighting, fill lighting, and background lighting are in good balance. The level of detail is incredible, and your depth of field is perfect: shallow enough for the blur to imply depth, but not overdone, so that we can still discern the studio environment behind you. Color is excellent, and audio, of course, superb.
    You’ve only been doing this six months?! Wow. You’re starting at the very highest level of technical excellence right out of the gate. You did your homework.
    Your content itself is very good and comes across as very credible. I see this channel blowing up HUGE in the future. At the time of this writing (12/20/2021) you have 6.65k subscribers. I’ll check this comment a year from now, for I predict you’ll have at least 10x than number by next Christmas.

I love my Lone Pines and the V2s should be $200 as the V1s were an introductory steal to be taken from Kali, not to mention in the future lone pines will soon build and inherent the prestige that we currently give to NS10s, therefore the V1s will be sacred in ways... real talk...

    Love the unboxing at the end. I like the fact that your reviews are about the context of the items rather than subjective issues. Curious about how different size speakers relate to different size studios. My home studio is 20 x 25 or so. Have been using 8" monitors, I see a lot of 6" that look good, probably better than my current ones. I don't know how to figure out of 6 of 8" is appropriate.

    Thank you for the review! Considering that for every higher budget you can get a better performing pair of monitors, what would be your choice given other budgets? I mean say for $300 it's Kali LP-6 v1, for $400 it's Kali LP-6 v2, for $500-600 (or even up to $1000 as you said in your review) it's Adam T7V. What would be the best choices for higher budgets beginning with $1000 and up to $10000? (Given the same not very large room size, where 6-7" monitors fit the best)

    Had these for over a week now and I agree with you on the upper-mids. It’s lacking, however, for that, I switch to an old pair of MSP5’s to properly mix the midrange similarly to how you would on NS10’s. With that said I can safely say that the LP6’s makes a good companion to my old monitors.

    Really good honest review! Currently using a second-hand set of JBL LSR305s. That said, I would've gone with Kali if I was able to go new. They seem like they're coming out of the gate punching above their price range and checking off a lot of the major needs for their target consumers.

    I honestly mix on headphones but I want to start using monitors because I want to take my mixing to the next level. Though I have heard that you can't get quality monitors for under 2k this scared me away from buying a pair. I see that you compared the monitor to the Adam t7v which is slightly more expensive. I don’t know personally how either of these monitors sound so I'll take your word for it. You mentioned that the LP-6 V2s mid range was not as detailed as the Adam's monitors. Since I mix on headphones ( DT990 250ohm) I don't know if I would hear the difference. Anyhow I hope I win the giveaway. I put a pick me comment on your instruction video. Hopefully it will give me some cool points.

    Hi Barry and thanks for the nice review. In the past I worked with KRKs which were in a similar price range. However, big speakers are not neccessarily good if the room is small. Speakers like the Kali Audio LP-6 v2 are a good choice for small project studios with a limited budget. They are absolutely fine for music production and basic mixdown - a bit of experience assumed - or as a second pair of speakers. Small woofers usually have a better translation of the mid and high frequencies which can be beneficial especially in todays world where customers are listening via smartphone or bluetooth speakers. More bass makes only sense, when the room is treated properly, otherwise it would just sound boomy. Its like having a sports car but driving on a country lane.

  • @Scilter
    @Scilter 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve been dreading buying new speakers because of the daunting task of retraining my ears. However, I know I’m not getting the full picture I need to mix my best. I finally got my room properly treated, and there’s just so many options of speaker to choose from. I’m definitely interested in your opinion on gear. Thank you from a fellow Floridian Producer!

    Hoping you see this before I make my purchase. How much better, for a beginner (not as a musician, just the music production aspect) do you think it is that I cough up the extra $150 for the Adam’s? Slightly hesitant after hearing you mention sound imaging being a little better on the Kali’s.
