I built and repaired dump trailers for over 25 years. Nice to see a really good recovery. I've dealt with more than a few units that the recovery people did more damage than the roll over. And you were lucky the hydraulic cylinder retracted, often they were damaged and it wouldn't collapse. But REALLY nice work.

I'm thinking about moving to America, just to learn from Ron. My off-road recoveries have improved (and probably a lot, lot safer) thanks to Ron and Casey LaDelle. Now the only complaints I get, when doing my winching, is that I over-engineer it. My response? "It never hurts to think of Safety"

I Constantly Watch Tow companies doing truck recoveries. There is 1 I will no longer watch because the owner thinks he is the best period. Maybe in his area not allaround.I have been around Tow Trucks since I was 6 yrs old and I know that you are only as good as the crew working with you. I will stick with Ron Pratt because I never see an ego, Just appreciation to the crew that is doing the work
Here's a little lineman's trick Ron. Fold the tape over on itself when your done with it. That goes for the roll and whatever your taping. It just leaves you a tiny tab so you can always remove the tape from the roll and the thing you taped. We have to do that on powerlines because of our rubber gloves and leather covers. I promise if you get in the habit of doing it. You'll do it every time without thinking.

This video shows several key points within your company. 1, The importance of safety. At one point you commented about 'that's why you have a hard hat'. You ask for the team to be careful and watch their footing on the loose rock. 1b, You requested job critical communication only. It's important to have clear communication when working a job as such. Idle chit-chat can prohibit critical information from being relayed on comm-sets like what you are using. 2, You are showing professionalism in your work. Strapping the box, trying not to crush it even though you think it's done for. That's not always the case once it's uprighted. Taping the chain. Orchestrating the whole team at the same time to perform multiple tasks. 3, Teamwork. You have multiple people working together doing different tasks at the same time. They are fairly well trained enough to work with you, knowing what's needing to be done. They know the drill, you're just being the conductor the Orchestra. 4, You still have humor. I've seen you have a good laugh even in serious situations. It helps relieve tension among your crew, first responders, even customers. I've watched you tell people that it happens, it's no big deal... then share jokes about it. Humor really does help the overall moral. Lastly... having such a huge crew on site for these situations isn't necessarily needed. But it helps get the job done quicker so you can get on to the next. It takes the workload off of the crew. And it also helps with training. There will be calls that you can't respond to, whereas Ethan can. He can use the crew to help him, as they already have the knowledge of what to do. It's better that they are on-site working with you. Learning from you. That way you know that you can trust them on those calls that you can't make. I have watched many rollover as well as other calamities. Midwest, LA, Great Britain and German. L.A., Great Britain and Germany uses fine heavy duty equipment and many types of recovery trucks and have many trucks to do the job that Ron does with 1 or 2 trucks. With roll overs they don't often slow the truck and trailer down but let it slam it's wheel into the ground which hurts to watch. Ron really showed how it is done in this fine video, probably the finest recovery of it's kind I have ever seen. With Ron you also have a play by play explanation which it makes his video much more pleasant and instructional. By rights, being an old retired guy I expect that I will never encounter need of any knowledge I can glean from the movies. I have actually learned quite few things that makes other jobs easier and safer. Thank You Ron, you are the best.
@Paul Crumley I wish I had kept the camera rolling for that part, because it turned out to be the most difficult part of the job. The uprighting was simple in comparison!! What I thought was going to be a simple hookup and tow turned into quite the challenge We couldn't tow the combination with the Rotator because of the narrow driveway and culvert. We used the single axle Pete and had very little weight on the steer tires. Loose dirt, loose gravel, hillside, narrow driveway, and gravity proved to be a difficult combination. We considered "split-towing" them, but the aforementioned conditions created the same problems for dropping the partially loaded trailer. We made it, but there were a few "hairy" moments. Ron, a tip on how to get the tape off the chain, and or roll. When you tear a piece off the roll, bend about an inch of tape over onto itself, so you have a pull tab for the next time. The same with the piece on the chain. The company I work for does power washing, and we hang a lot of containment plastic with zip ties and duct tape, and my boss has us use this technique.

Developed that trick for myself with packing tape. Never regretted it.

It works like a caster wheel. Does not play well in reverse on soft Ground cause it does not lift high enough.

Ron, a tip on how to get the tape off the chain, and or roll. When you tear a piece off the roll, bend about an inch of tape over onto itself, so you have a pull tab for the next time. The same with the piece on the chain. The company I work for does power washing, and we hang a lot of containment plastic with zip ties and duct tape, and my boss has us use this technique.
