Awesome. Thank you for sharing. Nice to see all the kindred spirits here. We have about 15 regular squirrel visitors to our feeders, but have had as many as 24 at once. It’s a circus. Our neighbors are kind enough to tolerate our crew. We go through 60-70 lbs of nuts and seeds/week. We named the ones we can identify and come back every year. We have 2 squirrel houses, fully occupied, and 2 heated bird baths we refill daily. 2023 was a tough year for our squirrel family. We lost 4 last winter to sub-zeros temps, 4 to cars, 2 to falls, and 1 to a Cooper’s Hawk. We volunteer for a wildlife rehab, so we take injured critters there as needed. For 2024, we added an insulated winter house as a refuge-I don’t want a repeat of last year-and plan to add 2 more before it gets really cold. We also have flying squirrels, raccoons, and possums. We love our neighborhood regulars!

I'm so delighted to discover your site. Your squirrel family loves you for your kindness. Here in Oregon, we rarely get snow/ice. I provide fruits, nuts and water when we do. My anxiety and anticipatory dread are lessened by watching pitbulls in pajamas, cats/kittens, eagles in their nests and now your videos. So much more calming than news. Before I became interested in squirrels I used to think that black squirrels were common all over North America. Now I found out that they are not as common as I thought they were. We also have a lot of them here in Ontario, Canada. I love the little guys. I feed them walnuts in my backyard and local park. :)
@@Vogel- They are a "phase" because they come from imported black squirrels brought here as exotics about 100 years ago and the black gene is dominant over the fox coat. In Northern Lower most squirrels are black..

I've had couple visitors at our cabin daily. Have sunflower seeds on different part of the porch so the squirrels and the birds can all eat at the same time. -30C didn't keep my friends away. Just made sure there was plenty to eat.

I've left a bag of cotton balls out during the fall a few years ago. The birds and squirrels took them. They seem to know how to insulate their nests when they build. I didn't know this and just went on a hunch when I saw a squirrel with a small piece of trash paper in it's mouth going up a tree. Wild life is amazing how they just know how to use their environment.
God keeps your heart warm, so you can keep your extremities warm with a window open with snow everywhere. 🤯🥰 99% of what we got over the weekend already melted. First George, now Manny. Amazon's gonna run out of white bowls soon. Kiara needs to have a talk with the crew. 😊
I love squirrel tracks in the snow. On my work from home days I can keep the water from freezing. My sweeties are eating lots of walnuts. When I put out supper walnuts, I ring my cow bell so my sweeties know it's time to eat.

I always lay out extra when the snow comes. I"m delighted to know how they keep warm. And it's so nice when you say "Let's throw some food out"-makes us feel included, too.
The squirrels in my local park don't come out for a few days when we have snow I live in a ground floor flat with balcony I have a large plastic box water proof hole in it enough for them to fit threw I fill it up with nuts shelled and walnuts water bowl it's there for them if they know there's food in there for them they are welcome to it I Love squirrels cuties so adorable little animals 🐿️😍🔥👍

I can’t explain the pleasure i get from watching squirrels, and feeding them - but all Squirrel Moms understand! I’ve been feeding mine lots and lots of nuts, but they don’t have to search through the snow for them like yours. I must compliment you on your excellent aim in throwing that nut for Cutie.
Mine are always extra hungry and eat so quickly in winter. I usually have a few battling hiccups as a result. I had a minature plant saucer that I would serve special nuts or shelled, raw sunflower seeds. One day the dish vanished. I searched the beds and it was gone. I always pictured it gracing a squirrel table ala Beatrice Potter. ❤
Perhaps you can knit them all little squirrel sweaters with built in paw warmers and their names embroidered on them to help endure the cold temps. I see another blizzard is coming next couple days. Hope everyone stays nice and cozy somewhere during the storm!

I just put up a squirrel box today for my 2 fall babies. Supposed to be night temps below 0 next week. With the weird weather & all, they never learned how to build a next. Coco has always had a very thin tail. The 2 of them sit outside my window about 16 feet away in a leafless tree and shiver. 😢❤❤❤

I didn't know that about squirrels. I'm going to the park later in the week and one of the Royal Palaces (local to me) where squirrels also live. The local supermarket had big bags of mixed nuts in their shells reduced to less than half price, so have been stocking up

I have had this pretty squirrel with white fur around its ears stop by my porch for peanuts for awhile now (at least two weeks). Yesterday, I finally got him or her to take a peanut from my hand. I felt so honored that it trusted me. There were other peanuts nearby but he or she willingly accepted the one I was holding. My daughter has named that squirrel White Cap bc we haven't seen any other squirrels with distinct ears.
I also feed the squirrels peanuts in shells in my backyard as well as birds (a mixture of various birdseeds etc.); when the squirrels run out of the nuts they switch to the birdseed I get them from BJs in nuts in large 5 lb bags & seeds in 40 lb bags.
Thank you for feeding these great creatures. I once saw a squirrel jump from a 3 story roof to the ground and didn't even flinch. Amazing. I always talk to them by the garbage bins outside my apartment complex. 😍😍😍
I don't miss the snowplow sound, & do not miss the snow. Like to see it's beauty, but admire it from a far. Florida's my forever home now. I thank the Lord for Fl. :)
Maybe in that rocky outcropping under the ledge you could build a warm shelter for the squirrels to stay out of the cold and snow with a front and rear entrance like a cat shelter.

Love the interesting facts about squirrels in the cold weather, their bodies are amazing! They definitely stay longer in this crappy weather to eat as much as they can instead of taking one nut and running off. We had a noreaster here, I do not like the snow and cold. 😩 After the storm was over, my bf put our little squirrel house back outside with nuts and they are still making the trip to come and eat. You have another bowl thief lol, I think you need a heavier bowl. 😂

I have a tree, limb, growing 7 feet off the ground horizontally towards our deck. I’ve put out a variety of feeders for both our squirrels and birds. I finally saw a chipmunk come out today because it’s been warm and rainy. I live in the south. We’ve had more frigid temperatures this year than we have in the last 40. I was wondering how they survived thank you.
I don’t see my squirrels as much during the winter this year. Then again I’m not out in the yard working either. Foods always gone, so they must be stopping by. Momma fell in love with me over our first winter together. I need to teach her to come knock on the window 😂 she can come in, get warm and eat lol

Our squirrels must watch the news, they stay in the tree when the wind chills are about -10 or colder, because the weatherman says don't go out without a hat and gloves, they haven't any too wear, they stay in the tree. They peek out of the tree hollow of course and after a day or two, they wander outside. We get snowy cold a few times a season that's extreme. Today a winter storm begins, and the squirrels are ready. Their nests in the trees are looking huge with leaves, and I do hope the ice holds them up to the gusty wind and foot of snow expected.

I also feed the squirrels peanuts in shells in my backyard as well as birds (a mixture of various birdseeds etc.); when the squirrels run out of the nuts they switch to the birdseed I get them from BJs in nuts in large 5 lb bags & seeds in 40 lb bags.

Thank you for feeding these great creatures. I once saw a squirrel jump from a 3 story roof to the ground and didn't even flinch. Amazing. I always talk to them by the garbage bins outside my apartment complex. 😍😍😍

Maybe in that rocky outcropping under the ledge you could build a warm shelter for the squirrels to stay out of the cold and snow with a front and rear entrance like a cat shelter.

Love the interesting facts about squirrels in the cold weather, their bodies are amazing! They definitely stay longer in this crappy weather to eat as much as they can instead of taking one nut and running off. We had a noreaster here, I do not like the snow and cold. 😩 After the storm was over, my bf put our little squirrel house back outside with nuts and they are still making the trip to come and eat. You have another bowl thief lol, I think you need a heavier bowl. 😂

I have a tree, limb, growing 7 feet off the ground horizontally towards our deck. I’ve put out a variety of feeders for both our squirrels and birds. I finally saw a chipmunk come out today because it’s been warm and rainy. I live in the south. We’ve had more frigid temperatures this year than we have in the last 40. I was wondering how they survived thank you.
I don’t see my squirrels as much during the winter this year. Then again I’m not out in the yard working either. Foods always gone, so they must be stopping by. Momma fell in love with me over our first winter together. I need to teach her to come knock on the window 😂 she can come in, get warm and eat lol

Our squirrels must watch the news, they stay in the tree when the wind chills are about -10 or colder, because the weatherman says don't go out without a hat and gloves, they haven't any too wear, they stay in the tree. They peek out of the tree hollow of course and after a day or two, they wander outside. We get snowy cold a few times a season that's extreme. Today a winter storm begins, and the squirrels are ready. Their nests in the trees are looking huge with leaves, and I do hope the ice holds them up to the gusty wind and foot of snow expected.
