they always check if the nut is sealed. If it is they bury it, if not they eat it. They really know how to save for winter and not get greedy now. At least mine do.

I watched again, just to see Cutie at the end. Her little hopeful face at your window, and her happiness when she got the extra nut, melted my heart. She watched you so carefully from the windowsill when you got the nut for her. You would have had to have a heart of stone not to respond to her, but she was onto a sure thing with your love for them all. Thank you for caring for them - it really is a joy to watch the videos.❤

It's actually better to give them nuts in a shell because they cache them in the ground and in other hiding places. Squirrels can smell up to two feet under the earth and retrieve them later. It's all instinct. I have seen so many of my squirrels digging up nuts they previously buried. I even had one who used to pat the whole nuts into her nest in the tree. Of course, when you feed them nuts out of the shell they sit with you longer, so that's nice, too. Thank you for loving and feeding these adorable, intelligent little fluffballs! 🥰
They only find 25% of the nuts they hide, so it's a big waste if you only feed them nuts in shell, except if you live in a place where trees can grow. Also the discarded shells can cause problems with your neighbors.

Squirrels in the wild will spend the spring and summer caching nuts (stashing them in holes) for the winter months.
Sometimes, if they know another squirrel is watching, they will dig a hole, pretend to put nuts in it and go find somewhere else to stash them.
I wonder if that area under the bushes is a bunch of fake stash holes, since there are always others watching?

Mine (some of) will come and take from my fingers; walnuts in shell, pecan in shell. Nothing else. They like to eat sunflower seeds that I put out for them. And will chomp on roasted monkey nuts. But if I toss them anything else than walnuts or pecans in shells, while they are there………they look at me like I insulted their mother 😂😂😂. If i run out for a few days they are so excited when I get some in!

However, nuts in shells are good for them. Squirrel teeth keep growing and gnawing on the nut shells is of great benefit to them. They keep their teeth filed down this way.

I could watch this all day! I feed squirrels and birds each day, but now in the spring we have a pair of geese each day and a pair of ducks. Only for a few weeks, but we love them! ❤
Love this channel. Where I use to live we had about five regular grey squirrels that I started feeding by hand. It was super therapeutic because I'd loss three pets, two dogs and a cat, in the space of about six months. When the last one was gone I was in a very dark place and these little critters really helped me out.

I had squirrels when I lived at my childhood home after my folks died. Their individual personalities, war wounds, scars, and mannerisms made them so much fun to get to know. It was fun putting treats and toys on the deck (until the quartet of raccoons showed up 😶). Leadbutt would come and get her private stash from my hands (and she and the dog had something going through the sliding glass doors), and Sapsucker loved a good slurp from the maple tree. There were so many with names- Bareback, and then Peanut, Hazelnut, Macadamia, and Brazil were siblings and smaller than the other grays. Leadbutt was a red fox squirrel, and such a character. I love watching your videos, and miss having a place for squirrels. Now, I have Canada Geese, and their sidewalk lubrication service. 😤

You could name squirrel without a name "Swan", which of course is an acronym, but would then be its name which is a paradox, and those are fun.
There are multiple squirrels without names, and I don't name them until I can tell them apart.
I just see the scene in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with all the squirrels and Veruca Salt.
