I think I remember them saying that the theory of evolution has evolved into even suggesting that the universe has evolved. I paraphrase that rather poorly I will admit. I think they were trying to suggest evolution or the theory of evolution has evolved and more fields are adapting to darwinian thought. Scientists use strong tactics when they're talking about the theory of intelligent design, just as you did here.
